my sister used to live in Kansas. she said it was lovely, except for the tornados and wierd winds.

i pick up kitteh today at 2:30pm. :D
And it's very flat... which has it's own beauty but... The weather changes drastically all the time there but the wind NEVER stops sweeping down down the plains. I was there 8 years and although there were tornado warning all the time in the summer I never saw one. The thing I miss most is the thunder storms. They were great!!

she did say the skies were the most fabulous ones she's ever experienced. she lived on base, and i don't recall her mentioning the terrain.... perhaps because there was none. LOL

edit: OH! and the thing about wierd winds was that they changed directions constantly.... like swirly. from one hour to the next she never knew which way the wind would blow. literally.

I remember driving through Kansas years ago and a huge storm rolled in. It was a sight to see it move, thanks to the flat open spaces. You could actually see the lightning bolts strike the ground, with fiery red explosions.

we just get mudslides, avalanches, forest fires and earthquakes here. much safer.

It has terrain... just think of "The Far Away" stretching 4 or 5 hundred miles. :p

No mudslides or avalanches to speak of here. We do have the occasional fire down in the Pine Barrens. In fact the Air Force accidently started one a couple of years back during training, the same year they accidently shot up a school, Luckily it wasn't occupied at the time. We get a small earthquake occasionally, although it is said New York is overdue for The Big One.

Yeah! First the sky turns green, then the insects all start chirping in unison, really loudly, then Thor goes crazy and water pours down. And it's still warm enough to sit on your porch in your shorts to watch it. ... :( Yeah I do miss that.

And then everything goes deathly quite... just before the tornado hits.

In the movies they always portray Californians as being so blase about earthquakes. Personally I find myself chanting "stop stop stop" until it does and a few seconds of wondering if this is the big one seems like longer. We don't get ones like that often though maybe half a dozen times in my whole life. Even the ones I've only barely felt haven't been frequent.

:D Exactly. Although I never experienced that part, fortunately.

the sky has to go from green to purple first. :)

I lived through 4 tornadoes growing up in Missouri. They took out the public pool (huddled in a changing room), the elementary school (huddled in the high school), my neighbor's house (huddled in my own), and the biggest grocer in town. (ok...I was home 7 miles away :D I still count it!).

And there is one giant reason I don't like Kansas.... The Jayhawks!!
(Sorry Kaimi! :D)

It sounds way to scary for me.

*sigh* I guess I'd better go read what's gone up since yesterday. Could you post the link again, please?

The telenovella doesn't come up until post 35, but the motivation - aside from Trout's cold medicine - for it is outlined prior to that.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

The fall colors are beautiful - here in Florida we have green, not so green, grey then green- really exciting...

There's the price you pay for living in the south. Here in Texas we get some brown mixed in with the grey of winter, and some brown with our summer not so green if it doesn't rain.

I have fortunately missed the glories of Tsunamis and Tornados...

I have been thru several hurricanes, including Andrew; a firestorm that roared down an expanse of highway and across canals, all the while driving as fast as possible in the opposite direction as some part of the Everglades burned one year and a major earthquake in Mexico City... pretty much got the natural disasters thing out of the way...
