All caught up, after my detour to to enjoy Trout's masterpiece. Seriously, I can't laugh like that at work. It's totally screwing up my curmudgeonly reputation! :D

Morning everyone!

Spock, is that you???? We've missed you so.

Ensign Saavik here, Lieutenant. Spock has assumed the ambassadorial duties of his late father. It was the logical thing to do.

[EDIT: Is that a very young Tom Cruise on the right in that picture? He looks a bit like "Maverick" in Top Gun...]

Oh you misunderstood me. Captain Kirk is Captain Kirk. He is in a class by himself.

However, Jean Luc IS THE CAPTAIN to end all captains. And Jonathan Archer ROCKED. Did I mention I got to see a taping of Star Trek: Enterprise???? And LeVar Burton was directing. I almost fainted.
Yes, Jean Luc is way up there on my list - maybe only Sean Connery tops him.

I never really got into Archer himself, but I absolutely love the Enterprise theme song -- play it cranked up loud on my pc lots.

nope - it's Robert Carradine. However, the other fellow, Anthony Edwards, was in "Top Gun" as Goose.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

"Microsoft's service promises to be more varied as a gateway to various entertainment, such as watching movies, going to virtual parties and sharing your collection of photos"

How's that more fun than user-created content?
Can you stand the excitement?

You have a pretty loose definition of "masterpiece" but I'm glad it made you laugh.

Ok I heard someone talking about twitter and wasn't sure what it was (yes, I am so far behind the times its a wonder I still function) so I went to the main page at www.twitter.com
Theres a big red button on there that says "Watch a Video" so I clicked it thinking it couldn't hurt.
It could just be me being silly, but I swear it sounds like Torley lol.

I have way too much time on my hands soooooo

My thoughts on the most Famous Captains in Starfleet:

First , the what if.

Captain Christopher Pike: The first Trek Pilot. "The Cage was rejected by NBC in 1964, as being 'Too Cerebral". As we well know, watching paint dry is to cerebral to the average television executive. Jeffrey Hunter played Capt Pike in that episode. NBC agreed for a 2nd pilot, due in large measure to the urging of Lucille Ball, whose Desilu Studio was going tp produce it. Jeffrey Hunter was not available, partly due to the fact he wanted part ownership of the show, and Roddenberry refused. it would have been interesting. Capt Pike was strong, stoic, pensive with a small streak of self doubt, who agonized of sending his people into danger. And those blue eyes were mesmerizing. Ironically, Jeffrey Hunter died in 1969, around the same time Trek did.

Captain James T. Kirk: THE Captain. Adventurous, passionate, daring, and the best looking without a shirt. Preferred to shoot first and not ask any questions. he too cared about his crew, but understood that danger was part of their job. The consummate womanizer, Enterprise was his only true love. In "The Naked Time" when he says "Never lose you.", it brings a tear to the eye. While ridiculed by many, Shatner's scene chewing hysteronics were exactly what the role demanded.

Captain Jean Luc Picard: Soft spoken, literate, introspective, yet still a comanding presence. The anti Kirk, he considered himself an explorer and diplomat first, but would not hesitate to bring the power of Enterprise down on you if need be. Patrick Stewart's presence brought great dignity to the role of Captain and proved that bald guys can be very sexy.

Captain Benjamin Sisko: The most complex of the Captains. At times a dark. brooding figure, a family man deeply affected by the death of his wife. While starfleet were Kirk and Picard's reasons for being, what remained of Sisko's family were the most important to him, his son and father. He was an almost reluctant hero, circumstances put him in a position that at sometimes seemed to overwhelm him, but his inner strength always showed him the way. He was the least autocratic of the Captains, relying heavily on his staff, and trusting them implicitly. He loved baseball, so he is prety cool in my book.
Avery Brooks, a Jersey Native and Princeton Graduate, made great use of his classical training I think, as did Shatner and Stewart. His sexiness points went up when he shaved his head and grew his goatee.

Captain Kathryn Janeway: Meh.Voyager had it's moments, but for the most part it was a bad idea. Kate Mulgrew did the best she could I guess. and probably better than the original choice for the role , Genvieve Bujold, who quit after about a week. Voyager would have been better with Chakotay in the center seat.

Captain Jonathan Archer: Kirk Lite. Bold, adventurous, youthfully exuberant. Had a cute dog. Unfortunately for me, Scott Bakula did such a great job of being the befuddled , reluctant Sam Beckett, I could never really grok Archer. I kept expecting him to call for Al when he was in trouble. I thought Lt Reed was the coolest guy on that ship. T'Pau get my vote as the sexiest of the Trek Ladies.

Tomorrow we will discuss the impact of the 2 Dicks (Sargeant and York) who portrayed Darren Stevens on Bewitched.
