Good morning everyone!

Hope the weekend went well for everyone. I stood on my porch, and thumbed my nose at hurricane Kyle as it went past. :)

There was hurricane? I missed the memo! Argh- we did get some good rain though :)

Gah! I missed it again! Somebody needs to send out alerts so I can be here when the fun starts. ;)

Oh, and Bogart is ok in my book. He always hooked up with some adorable leading ladies. :D

Oh, lord, completely forgot...(good thing Brenda's not here yet)

Give it to me....all of it!

I saw Tom Jones last year in Vegas. He is still worthy of having underwear thrown at him.

OK, just saw this over in the "stop typing" thread. It's not a new one; some of you may have seen this before, but omg, I am laughing so hard right now.

Good morning everyone.

Seems like we get fewer kids every year for Halloween and yet I still buy lots of candy. My waistline says that I need to not do that.

So has anyone heard from Slack Zapedzki regarding the zonkster.com website or the Forum Hangout HUD?
I have IMd him, but not heard a thing. Someone said the backend server was down and so none of his stuff is going to work until that is back up.

Agreed. I really do feel naked without my hangout HUD.

I'm thinking about putting up one of those sex offender signs outside my house for halloween and keeping all the candy :)

Morning all!Happy Monday.:)

I haven't gotten any trick-or-treaters in years, and I live on the first floor. I don't even take my own kids out though. We usually go to a certain friend's house who has a party every year for the kids. I still buy candy to pass out though, but eat it all myself.:o

Same here. At least about the candy. Buying.

You stood on your porch for the whole weekend? Thumbing your nose? Wasn't that tiring?

Good morning folks, just popped in to say Hello.

I just had a great weekend free of computers / SL / phones / online. It's nice to get a break from these things. I was on top of the world until the alarm went off this morning and I had to get to work. Oh well, such is life.

I hope everyone else had a great weekend!

What about your thumb?

So what's the deal with the hud? Is the creator gone? Is anybody looking into making a replacement? Does anybody know how it worked?

Good morning all.

This is taking a guess but even so it can not be far off.

The HUD system will consist of one object at the hangout that scans and gathers the list of nearby people. All the other HUDS we have attached then contact the scanner object every minute or so to get the newest list.

In order to contact the scanner object, each HUD needs to know that obect's UUID. Unlike avatars, in world objects get a new UUID assigened every time they are ressed -- when the sim they are in gets reset, the objects get re-ressed as well which changes their UUID.

OK, the solution is to have the scanner send it's UUID to an offsite place when it resses. His web site in this case. That way, the HUDS, when they turn on, go to the web site to find the UUID of the scanner and they all talk happily to each other.

But the scuttlebutt is that the web site is down for some reason. There fore, all the HUDs don't know where to send the request for the list of people at the hangout.

Thanks!

And the actual communication between the huds and the in-world object? What's the mechanism? Is it email, or does that also go through his web site? (I'm too lazy to go read LSL docs to see how cross-sim communication is done.)

email. But since it is all internal, the email communication is very fast.

[edit to add] As far as I know, email is the only way for prims in different regions to communicate.
From: someone

llEmail(string address, string subject, string message)

Sends email to address with the specified subject and with message in the body.

These emails will always have the sender [key]@lsl.secondlife.com where [key] is the asset-ID of the prim containing the script sending the email (see llGetKey). Example sender: [email]a311ce4d-e755-f148-7999-56f289ca3f3b@lsl.secondlife.com[/email]. Emails sent to such an address can be read using llGetNextEmail.
