On an unrelated note - I just discovered that Real Player 11 allows you to download any video emedded in a website, include flash animations. This means you can download videos off youtube too, with a single click (it plugs into whatever browser you are using).
I have chosen to ignore any ethical questions associated with this, and you can't make me think about them *LA LA LALA LA NOT LISTENING* Another triumph for Big Phil. _____________________

To the South, the road leads into a dark forest. To the East you see arctic tundra disappearing into the distance, where you can just make out the foothills of a mountain range in the dim distance.

Is that beta? I have the RP 10 and it's suppose to be the latest version. 11 is the newest version. I've been on 10.500 for ages. Real Player is pretty shit, so I set the filetypes to be associated with Windows Media Player Classic (a lightweight, better performing version of Media Player with none of the superfluous functions) and just use the Real Player browser functionality to download. _____________________

Schrodinger's cat wasn't supposed to be taken as true. The scenario was only meant to demonstrate why the Copenhagen Interpretation might work for quantum mechanics, but couldn't work for anything bigger. The Copenhagen Interpretation states that a particle exists in every possible state at once, until an observation is made, at which point its waveform collapses into one of the possible states.
Schrodinger's cat shows how this doesn't work on larger-than-atomic scales. Nobody would (or should, anyway) have trouble understanding that whether the cat ends up alive or dead really has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not anybody opens the box and takes a peek. The point is, what's true at the atomic level doesn't necessarily transfer to the bigger world. For instance, atoms are invisible; you are made entirely out of atoms, yet you are not invisible. I suppose you could argue that Schrodinger's cat is a fallacious example, since cats are conscious animals, and therefore the cat would count as an observer... |
