That is fluffy! Fluffy and I used to have mad adventures together. She doesn't look like much be she can handle a bullwhip like nobody's business.

No, no, you're missing the point. The cat is both dead AND alive at the same exact moment in time. Shaking the box does nothing, although I'd probably get a sort of sick, grim satisfaction out of watching you do it, not being a huge cat fan myself. It's only when you open the box can you discover the state of the cat, and even then you'd split off into two parallel universes, one where the cat's alive, and one where it's dead.

No, I'm not missing the point. I'm just saying Schrodinger was wrong. Regardless of whether you are aware of the cats state, the cat is still in one state or another. Our awareness of it does nothing to change it. Schrodinger was nothing more than a voodoo mystic, just like Einsteen and Steven Hawking and all their less famous fellow shaman.

LOL, I know. Even Schrodinger, when he wrote that whole scenario, basically said the whole idea was retarded, which was why he wrote it in the first place; to show just how silly it all was. But it makes for a good discussion.

Any "scientist" who bases their research on assumptions, suppositions and leaps of faith is heading into the realms of religion. Hawking particularly seems not to feel the need to sully his elevated mind with anything as squalid as evidence for his theories.

My favourite is so called "dark matter". It apparently exists; but you can't see it, or measure it, or see any effect it has on anything else that it might happen to be near. But it exists. Honest. That sounds like religion to me.

Whether this makes them "shaman" or not, is debatable. You need theories to start an exploration - religion on the other hand, depends on baseless faith - religion depends on lack of proof - hence faith.

Say what you will of Hawking or whoever, but don't confuse the issue by mixing religion and science- the religionists have enough on their side.

Assumptions without evidence - that's religion. Theories are based on observation of what you see - not what you wish was there. Of course a book entitled "The Universe: We Know Fuck All About It" wouldn't sell well.

42.

I like the book title actually - but you may have to work on Fuck-
Since I don't know Mr. Hawking personally I cannot make assumptions on the basis of his theories- I am just glad he didn't claim to receive tablets from on high - so I will wait it out and see how it pans out - meantime, Mr. Kaku is making strides as well.

The Dark Suckers are coming... :)
