From: Colette Meiji there are no pig-species on Gor. Good news, Trout - there are pig species on Gor. " Tarsk: This is a six-tusked wild boar, with a bristly mane running down its spine. There is a giant tarsk that stands ten hands at the shoulder. There are several varieties of tarks in the rainforests, both large and small. They can be domesticated and the rencers keep some. They are best hunted from the back of kaiila with lances and the giant tarsk is often hunted on tarnback with lances. Tarsk meat tends to be salty." ~Quoted from Luther's Educational Scrolls - Animals of Gor And just to show you what a sport I am, including the web addy for just about every flora, fauna, object, food, life species, etc., etc. exist on Gor: http://www.geocities.com/delphius2002/id3.htmPenned by a former Free Woman Scribe

From: Keira Wells Find a second one driving a truckload of beer and you're set, Trout There's a pretty strong drink on Gor called Paga. That stuff will knock you over faster than a keg of beer. And a lot of other alcoholic beverages. (Refers to website posted above.)

From: Colette Meiji Yes Ale, whiskey (paga), vodka (sul-paga) wine , etc , etc.
All warm,
there are no refrigerators on Gor. There are cold rooms (like cellars) where the cold drinks are kept. And in more rural areas of Gor, some of the ale-type drinks are suspended by a rope in a cold river. The mark of a very wealthy household in the Southern Hemisphere of Gor is one who has ice chips because it is very precious and expensive since it needs to be trekked from the far Northern reaches of Gor. ~Another service from your friendly former Free Woman Scribe

From: Trout Recreant If people consider them a very basic skeleton for their RP, then build their story from there, it seems to be a much healthier, more creative and intelligent way to have fun, than to use the books as a rule-book and try to adhere to them perfectly.
Hi This is what most Goreans do in SL. In simple terms: We "write" new chapters for the books stickung to the culture provided in the books. It would be very boring to me if we just had to re-play the story. In the second Novel the main location was the City of Tharna. The storry was about a slave rebellion against the female dominated City. Panthers not even mentioned in that book. In SL-Tharna the Tatrix (Quenn and SIM owner) allies with a panther tribe seeking protection against raids from other cities. This actually partly caused a splitt of the panther tribe near Troy called the Jerag. I went with the ones that left Troy and we build now a camp near Tharna overlooking the silver mines. So far the latest developments. Greetings Maggie

Wait, wouldn't it need to be trekked from the far SOUTHERN reaches of Gor if they're in the southern hemisphere? Why cross two whole hemispheres? I'm confused...

Southern Gor is Warm and Northern Gor is Cold. its not all mixed up like Earth. (Either that or he just hadn't gotten around to figuring out what exist at the south pole yet.) But they are whiners anyhow, because Gor is actually smaller than Earth by quite a bit, and has less gravity - so the trip is shorter. This is brought up in some of the earlier books to explain why Tarl is so much stronger than the average Gor. Smaller planet - Giant flying birds - people should whine less about having to fly North for Ice. Although why they don't just trek up into the mountains like Earth people did before they invented refrigerators, I do not know.

Whew, glad you fielded that one Colette I was just going to say it was trekked in "wherever" it was cold and frozen like....Torvaldsland. Which to get back on topic to OP, is also a decent Gorean sim from what I know of it. Oh...and bonus!! Any potential Free Women reading this thread (I know, not likely, but as a public service, the Women in Torvaldsland didn't have to wear veils.)

Although why they don't just trek up into the mountains like Earth people did before they invented refrigerators, I do not know. Less Oxygen in the Gorean atmosphere and the people there are aclimated to sea-level O2 levels. If they hike into the mountains, they will succumb to altitude sickness and slowly die from lack of Oxygen. It's an unfortunate situation, but it keeps then clear of the Mountain-Dwelling Cargarian Demons who, as everyone knows are unable to survive well in an Oxygen rich environment, since their respiratory systems utilize oxygen at such a high rate that heavy concentrations of it cause them to burst into flames. The fortunate part is that Mountain-Dwelling Cargarian Demons are particularly nasty. Lots of sharp teeth and pointy edges. Keeping then clear of Gorean humans is probably a good thing for the survival of the species. See? I can play, too.

From: Rosele Maroon try Laomi -they are a little different from other Gore and have great school It's a capital I - "Iaomai" (took me forever to spell that one right). People thinking that I is an L happens a lot. Not trying to be nitpicking on you, Rosele...just in case anyone is trying to find it. And I agree - great school, nice people. They are very welcoming and accepting. They hold classes that cover what Gor is and anyone is welcome to sit in...don't need to be attired any special way as a guest.

For the Gor side of the SL D/s scene, I definitely think that Iaomai is the best.. lovely people, lovely place, lovely everything. I'm not Gorean, but I still spend a bit of time there, just because I like the atmosphere.

See? I can play, too. Ahh but if you had read the books you'd know there wasn't less oxygen in Gor's air, Because the Air was better on Gor, everything supposedly makes people feel more alive. The Earth with its poluted atmosphere is whats inferior The fact that having less gravity would mean less oxygen is irrelevant because Norman claimed it had better air. At least 5 times in the first book alone. Hmm come to think of it he does fly the Tarn into the Mountains on more than one occasion. Not to gather ice though. I never heard of these Demons, is this something to do with your motorcycle again?

I assume the air was cleaner because of the lack of SUV's and industrial coal plants. Also, Earth won the lottery and got Love Canal, Chernobyl and the Exxon Valdez instead of Gor. Unfortunate for us. At any rate, the fact that Gorean humans have nice, clean, pink lungs doesn't mean that they can survive in an oxygen depleted environment. You haven't heard of the demons because nobody who has ever seen one has lived to tell about it. We only have second-hand information gleaned from skeletal remains and Gorean Caveman paitings. Early Gor-Magnon Man was a prolific graffiti artist and many of the lower Kargahoozitian mountain caves show records of run-ins with the demons.

From: Colette Meiji How did they survive to see the graffiti in the mountains then? Lower mountains. Plus, Gor-Magnon man had a lower Oxygen threshhold. Times were simpler back then. Now, of course, Gorean Humans travelling into the Lower Kargahoozitian Mountains carry supplemental oxygen. Sir Edmund Hillarygrokenargol pioneered the technique. That only gets you so far up there, though, so contact with the demons is pretty rare.

i'm curious of gor as I see it pretty much everywhere in sl, not sure where I fit in or what role I would have (slave, freewoman or talunas). I have a passing knowledge or basic greetings, and some misc other info. But given the chance would like to know more. I've visited the classroom in House Iaomai but nobody's ever been there when I checked.
First; any none-drama, forced slave sim you can give me would be great (I don't wanna enter and be captured" right away) second: If someone from iaomai can give me a schedule, haven't found one third: any schools, classes or places to learn, libraries would be great, preferably on all aspects/roles
Any help would be great. My name in second life is kara jefferson also so you can send me lm or notecards if you so choose

Hey Kara, I think we met when you visited Iaomai. It's a great low key Gor community with loads of classes and events going on. I'm sorry to hear it was quiet when you visited! The notices of events go out on the House Iaomai friends group. The best way to get invited to that is to head back to Iaomai and explain to someone in the marketplace why you want to join the Iaomai Friends group. There's usually a few people standing opposite the boat when you land to greet visitors. I'm afraid I can't send you an invite as I don't have the perms to do that in that group. If you want to spend more time with the taluna tribe call me up in-world. I'll be more than happy to show you round our sim and talk about what we're about. Hope to see you there sometime ^Min^
