Wow.. is the US laws that broad to prevent betting in private with a friend the outcome of a boxing match, football game, chess game etc etc while sipping a few beers in their own home, watching these on TV?

Well technically UK law is that broad too. Down my local pub there are "No gambling" and "No writing of betting slips" signs up, because technically it's not a licensed gambling establishment.

However the authorities have better things to do than pursue such misdemeanours.

Well the term 'I'll Bet You' won't be said much anymore then in public LOL.

National in International lotteries.. they are gambling yet not only supported by Governments, in some countries they are RUN by the governments. Since the days of the Olympic Games and no doubt before.. gambling has been a part of human society.. gambling a persons life is a bit extreme (well a big extreme really), cock fighting, badger baiting etc etc are 'mordern day' equivilents (I'm no supporter). More 'civilised' forms of gambling are cards, chess, horse and dog racing etc etc.

I understand the social implications of excessive and habitual gambling and the effects they can have on families and even communities... but what I fail to understand is Governments creating laws that will only result in driving this underground, where those that will benefit most will be the lawless elements such as 'mafia' types have their underworld.

Games like Tringo and Slingo etc are harmless forms of entertainment. I enjoy a game of poker, black jack etc because I'm pitting my skill either as a player or as a bluffer (both being considered a skill), although I have never been into a casino on the basis it's like playing with a blind player at the table, with the odds stacked in their favour.

For the most part, making laws are only a tightening of control against those that already abide by the law, those that have no care or respect for the laws, will just continue to flout them.

Well said, AWM Mars...

We may conclude that the government never learned anything from "alcohol prohibition". On the other hand the current bill was rigged, since both the politician the pressed it through was bribed by some of the largest rl casino tycoons and the bill itself was attached to another bill that couldn't be voted against. As time passes on it only seems that the government as a whole is totaly corrupt (nomatter if we talk about democrats or republicans), and theres no end to the greed. I can't say i didn't expect this, in a system where the language of "money" is the only one that is beeing heard, one can't be surprised that corruption reaches new highs, i just ask myself this question: when will this sickness end ?

Could we return to the topic of gambling equipment that is known to be removed by LL when they find it?

Sure, equipment that i know they will remove based on what they have removed is:

Zyngo
Shrooms
Slingo
Slingo Freeplay
Trivia (because the questions do randomize)
Any form of doubler-style-game where you win a freebie where stakes are 1 L$ or above
Any form of sploders, if the sploder requires intelectual skill if the questions are randomized the sploder is banned.
Any form of solitare is also banned except the types in wich you can see all cards at start (something that is impossible to consider a game, rather a sandbox)

If you have more to add, pls do so, these are those games that i have observed are banned.

I snipped that list. You seem to be vacillating between calling it a list of banned games and a list of games you believe will be removed. There is a subtle difference. one is what has happened and has been removed; the other is your own opinion.

The games i specified by name are not opinions those are facts, reason i call it facts is because it has happened under different occasions to 2 or more ppl i know. As for the rest wich i specified under "Any kind of..." those are games that fit into same criteria that those games that got removed. What lindens have to do is reconstruct the below part of the blogpolicy and replace words like "may" with "will be".

"Does this policy apply to “skill contests”?
"This policy only applies to wagering games that involve an element of chance. This includes, for instance, any game involving random number generation, simulated dice, cards, poker, lotteries, bingo, or any other “chance” game. Games of pure intellectual or physical skill, such as puzzles or other skill contests, MAY NOT FALL UNDER THIS DEFINITION."

The problem right now is that theres nobody at linden lab that wants to take the responsibility to be in charge of this, in other words if you ask one linden he/she may ok a game, while another linden will say that the game is banned.

As for what you refer to as "my opinion" thats rather a inaccurate definition, those are games that "may or may not fall under this policy", (in other words depending wich linden that storms your place they may aswell be removed, and your account suspended, wich means theres a 50/50% chance they will be removed, personaly i wouldn't "bet" on that).

I just hope the Lindens *LOOK* before they simply delete or return. We have several former gambling games ... all set to free play with no payout. We have signs up all over the area "ALL GAMES ARE FREE TO PLAY"

We do not collect Lindens, nor do we pay out Lindens. There are no other prizes or tokens given out. We simply have them there to play for fun.

If I come in one morning and see everything gone ... I'm going to be royally PISSED!

Sadly I dont believe they will see it that way, they will see them as chance games and that ppl may change them for money payouts at times

How about the multi player Slingo and tringo there is a prize pot but players do not pay for it just donations.

Are they now gone to?

If you have had gambling equipment removed from your property, please list the make, model and author of the machines. If it's a generic machine, just the name will suffice as long as it is descriptive.
I will move posts that are off-topic.

Wonders why my thread on August 4th about my sploder being returned to me was deleted and not moved to this thread as stated. Hindsight is 20/20 vision.

Depends who you talk to, for example:

[14:26] ******* Linden: Well, then it's not random? Like we've determined that Trindo is based on skill.
[14:27] ******* Linden: Tringo

But the next day you might get a visit by a different linden telling you that they never determined tringo as a game of skill, and good luck arguing.

the best way would be to obey to the most restrictive choice aka any game that got returned by any linden is banned.

I don't even know what you guys expect really. They don't have to give you a reason or a logical argumentation to ban whatever they want, it's their servers.

What we expect is a fukn answer! Someone i know recently got the most useless lidnen answer ever the linden said this about shrooms, streetz, dragonz, gemdz... "They seem ok, but we cannot say wich games specificaly are ok..."

Basicly what the linden fool tried to say is that ppl can easily mod the scripts so he couldn't say if the games named above are ok. What ofcourse doesn't fit into the lindens thick head is that they could simply ban the creator instead of the person that places the games, this would make creators stress to make games that are legit that are nonmoddable, but ofcourse thats something we cannot expect because we are supposed to believe they know no better and are just clean stupid or that they are too afraid of the fbi to act wisely. Under current circumstances any game that involves by large skill as the main factor does seem ok, but you can get suspended or banned without notice.

What i expect, what i expect is nothing more than common sense, if someone claims that games can be modded to be used for gambling purposes, then ban the damn creator, simple as that!

I just said it the way it is, the solution to the "OMG so too complicated problem" is extremely simple LL should only ban creators not those that actualy rez stuff, and there would be no problem with scripters adding secret betting modes to their originaly skill games, this would automaticaly create a "greenlist" without much time spent on it instead of running daily gridwide investigations on rezzed objects wich is in fact a very time consuming cat & mouse game, where the mouse always survive, and the cat always too distracted to act wisely.

Since after the gambling ban i spent tons of hours scripting games, but after i realized the lindens are banning ANYTHING (because even a vendor can have a secret betting module, thats no joke this is from lindens very own words) i stopped wasting my time, that simply removed potential customers, creating games wich noone will dare to use is a complete waste of time. As i posted in a different thread lindens didnt even reduce mainland auctions at the time of the gambling ban in best case because they where too lazy, in worst case because they where too stupid, so untill proven otherwise i judge the Linden Lab for beeing too stupid to know whats best for their own good. The strategy that LL has proven to use routinely is "trial and failure", any corporation with that kind of strategy is a failure.

This might be a silly idea but why don't Linden just create a new continent where gambling is allowed and ban all US IP addresses from entering that continent?

You could force people to disclose their IP address when signing up to SL and get old members to disclose.

That way people can't hide behind a proxy.

Every time you sign into SL the client will check you're IP address against your details to make sure your not using a proxy and you're not in the USA.

US avatars would simply not be able to TP to the new continent or find themselves looking at a red tape no entry thing when trying to get in.

Why should the whole world suffer because the world police, I mean the FBI/America say jump?

The problem of US law is easily solved in my eyes.

Lindon labs is an US company and it's servers are in the US when you log in to SL you are Under US law and policy There is NO none US places IN SL. you come to SL You are subject to US law and lindon labs Business practices.

Don't like US law or Lindon lab business Policies law then don't come to SL simple as that.

I was trying to offer a solution, I am pro America, but I am also pro gambling online.

SL will stand a better chance of success long term if it has gambling I believe.

Why not just move the servers to somewhere friendly to its purposes?

Canada?

Mexico?

That way everyone wins. Everyone is happy and all laws are met with Americans banned from the relevant continent but free to access the rest of SL.

Also, this would be a good way of putting all XXX content into specific continents also.

Plus you could have commercial continents for shops, clubs and adfarms and residental continents where people would be free of all that sort of thing.

A free for all 'one size fits all' attitude isn't the way to go.

GREAT: and what with child porn ?

No, I like the new rules, even the gambling rules.
It's good that they are cleaning SL.

moving the servers and company Is never going to happen that would take years and put Linden labs out of Business the cost would be just to high for them to do.

The only really plausible solution is for Lindon labs to stop buying Lindon's and leave that up to 3rd parties.

LL pays no real cash then there is no problems
they could still sell lindens. this too is a cost but not as big as an unnecessary move. I think I m not a financial analyst.

I agree that separate grids for residents commercial and recreation might be feasible . I also want to keep Kids Out of the main grid By an mandatory age check. I do not want Children on my SL.

to stop spam farms they could set the land to a min size it could be cut to.
I don t like the free accounts either but that and spam aren't the subject here..so I will not go there

sorry if i sounded like i was going after you personally i wasn't I feel your Point of view i want casinos back as well

BTW i m not too Keen on U.S. Policy right now either
