My own shape (I have a pretty similar freebie I give out that's an older version of it if anyone wants, but it's home grown) Ton Visage Sakura skin from Sin Skins.

It takes so long to really find what works best for you. I keep trying to find other skins that I like- I have an inventory full of demos, but it seems I'm a one skin and shape kind of girl- although Ido have a kid version of my Capella shape for when I'm in the mood to be a kid again. I change hair color/style and clothes a lot and have a couple of great neko parts for when I'm feeling catty so at least there's some variety. ^.^

I use my own shape which has a larger butt than many others I've seen, and I'm fairly short too. The skins are from SinSkins, of the Aurora range, with freckles.

That one is more gothicky...

So I mostly have the same pale skin, freckles, and reddish hair combo....and funny enough I couldn't find any neko snaps where you could actually see the skins well enough. Must be the kitty in me, always on the move and too fast for close ups! ;)

i had to make my own skin. i was looking for something with a muted skin tone. i wanted something more desaturated than a pale pink, but not the kubuki white of a goth skin. i found nothing at all like that.
i did my shape too, i wanted something that wasnt porno, and everything that wasnt porno was kid-like.

First i used Shy Carramelles frebie skins (good staff) and my own shape+face but a very nice girl has helped me with modifications on my shape (its better when is someone around- and i realised boys are not really objective here- they don't care just have big ass and boobs:))) and i bought 2 RaC skins.
I tryed almost all demos i could find and liked hehehe (took me abouth a month:)) and for me and my shape RaC rocks.
I dont think i look childish as i read on few posts, but i did some mod on avs face and of course its all bout clothing and accessories :)).
For most of the shapes outhere i tryed i was never really satesfied- or was the head or the body... sth was always not like i wanted it to be.
So ill stay with 'my body' and Rac skins. And also the eyes are Rac and hair definetly by Gurl:))

I still can't get into Sin Skins. They're very popular, but they seem to lack detail. Maybe they just don't work well with my shape.

Anyways, I checked out Nomine recently. Their body detail is VERY good! Even slightly better than RaC. But RaC is hands down better for facial detail, better than any of the other major skin makers that I've tried.

wow. those RaC 'flour' skins are exactly what i had been looking for. pale gothy sort of skin yet not full blown white. i wish those had been around back then. i think i might buy them out of sheer boredom.

For my cyber experience i just put on great outfit, wicked hair, spikes, boots and cyber eyes and im ready:))

RaC has, in my opinion, the finest face detail I've seen. They don't have an extraordinarily large selection, and I couldn't find one I really liked for the look of my avatar, but nevertheless it's clear that the quality level is very, very high.

Yup that is the only minus their selection of skins. But to tell u the truth if u mod a little, spice it up with different eyes, eyebrows, hair and face shape the transformation is amazing. SL friend of mine has the same skin and even she didnt realise that:)
I just wanna know if there is any good makeup to go with RaC skin-it sure would prepare me to spent some more lindens:))

well thats the whole problem with the way skins are done; theres no way to add makeup. to make some makeup you need the actual head.tga and need to run it through photoshop and upload it as a new skin.
what would be really sweet is if LL created a new overlay specifically for skins, then you could buy makeup and use the head tattoo layer for it. and then i could use the upper/lower tattoo overlays for tattoos instead of having to wear 'tattoo pants' and so on.

yup i mean exactly that- cause for example i can change eyebrows in RaC skin with just wearing (Aladdi set is great and only eybrows change the face completey) them so why the hell they dont start to do makeup:) or just head skin overlayer? would make me really happy and little poorer:))

I REALLY don't get the appeal of RaC. I went back and tried a few demos on recently in case there had been some change since the first time I looked, and I still wasn't impressed. Pretty faces, yes, but the bodies are overdone and terribly ashy looking for some shades. Plus, the skin tone of the faces and the skin tone of the bodies didn't seem to match in a lot of cases, almost like they came from two different skins. Definitely not the skins for me. *shudder*

I did some browsing based upon some designers mentioned here, and I still am sticking with SinSkins. I also use their eyes and Chromabrows for ETD and Diversity hairstyles. They also make a nice cleavage booster addon for their skins.

the chromabrows also work for gurl6 hairs.
why you would want anything other than gurl6 hair is a mystery to me.

Because ETD has superior textures and a nicer overall look. :p

I prefer the yummy skins by Robin Sojourner. I got it in Serenite, but they're on her island now too.

Sorry for the big photo. Snapzilla doesn't seem to have a thumbnail option like Flickr.

I didn't get RaC either until very recently. I went back and fell in love with a couple of the new fair tone skins. It really is all about the face. The nose in my opinion is the best I've seen. I love love love the way Sin Skins does their eyebrows. I just can't manage to get the same range of colours out of Celestial Studios skins. Which, by the way look wonderful on other people, but for some reason is just not doing it for me on my shape. I have one, but I had to make a slightly altered CS face shape for it to make me happy. There is this shine on the nose that seems to go too far up the forehead that still kinda seems off to me.

The problem with these type of threads....its mostly the same elite and long standing companies that get the same mention time and time again. For instance i challenge anyone to buy one of my Dalian body shapes at Plush Enigma and honestly tell me that any of the before mentioned known creators (e.g Body Doubles or MAD Design etc) are really any better if indeed at all than any of my Dalian shapes!

By the same token, being a shape producer, i have spent a small fortune on male and female skins, likewise hairstyles......i'm forever venturing out and viewing new designer's products......hell i even came across a new Japanese skin creator last night (he/she spent 131k on a classified....so i had to see for myself what justified this kind of spend).

The point i'm trying to make.....is that i have come across some great looking skins, that i would consider nearly or on a par as some of the more fashionable names being banded about on this thread.....e.g take a look at Minnu skins or Pixel for instance.
Who are they you might ask?.........that's exactly my point, most of you all have a little collection of well known landmarks which you repetitively visit...the RAC's. Naughty Design, Gala, X2, Nominee, Adam n Eve, Nominee, Body Politik, Celesrial etc etc....they are the brand names, reliable products......it's safe!........but believe you me, there are some smaller lesser known or new creators that produce equally great work!

Take some time and visit them, they are out there.....then come back and write an opinion!

I think the problem is that it is hard to search for skins! I have tried to search for new makers.... a search for skin normally brings up all sorts of things you don't want to see! It's not like clothing or furniture where you can put in words for a particular style like retro or whatever. I really don't look for shapes.... the selling point for me of the Colette one way back when was that I could mod it, so I don't know about that. Going off to see if I can find this Japanese maker now. :)

There's a reason the biggies are big. I've tried a lot of the smaller skin lines, including the ones you mentioned and, while I liked some of them, Celestial Studios remains my favorite. Along with being great quality overall, they just simply suit my perception of what Ann 'should' look like in a way that other skins don't.

Oh, and Nora's Entice line had a least a couple mentions early on and that's certainly not one of the better known brands.

For the record, i haven't as yet seen any skin that is perfect in MY eyes....each of the main brands, i could pick minor faults or weaknesses. I could write a comprehensive listing on those. I do have an opinion on which is the best overall skin and most reliable without being the best in any given department. (i'll keep that to myself!)

I agree with what a previous poster wrote about RAC skins. We tried 6 demos, 6 different faces........each made one look too young....like a teenager or college girl. The body detail
was fantastic...but the make-ups and overall appearance were a disappointment if you wanted to create an a mature AV.

CyroGen on the other hand does fanatastic female make-ups (as does Celesrial), but are a let down by the lack of muscle clarity or body detail on their skins! Shame!......and so the list goes on........X2 too much body detail IMO (check the female necks) and annoying dark shadows in the butt area.
