I have been in game for nearly a year now...I have spent way to much money trying to find the perfect skin and shape... So far the ones I've liked best are Gala Skins and ALady shapes.. But am still looking for better. Who in your opinion has the best Skins and Shapes?

Colette Meiji has some nice shapes. For female skins RaC has the best in my opinion, but they are rather pricey.

I've used a freebie shape and freebie skin (same box) since I began "way back" a week or so ago. I occasionally ask people if I look ok, and they keep responding that I do. Now if they are telling the truth, I do not plan on spending money on shapes and skins.

Insolence Skins are outstanding, and they come with a shape in the multipack. However, if you want a darker skin, you don't have any options.
Naughty Designs also makes incredible skins. They also have darker options. The skins look good on almost every shape.
These two go for a very realistic look. If you want something more cartoony, or non human... can't help you.

I can't stand the majority of shapes on the market, but I've got very specific ideas about the size of my avie (small, most avies tower over me) and the shape of my face. Took me about 2 hours with the appearance sliders to get something managable and I've been tweeking slightly ever since. Just remember to keep a copy as you edit, it's nice to see the changes over time and it gives you a chance to return to a better version if you don't like a change.
It helped me to get a photo of a face to "copy" and flip back and forth looking for realistic features.
I love Sin Skins for skins, specifically the Ton Visage stuff, very well done. If you're looking for a realistic look, check out skins with freckles options- it breaks up the smoothness of the face more realistically even if you're not ordinarily a fan of freckles (most are very light anyways). One reason why I'm a Sin Skins fan- all skins come with freckles ^.^
Also a fan of the brand new PixelDolls skins. Really surprised me to be truthful- I've been looking for a few supplements to my Sakura Ton Visage skin (I want more make up damnit!) and was knocked out by them. Been hunting for months for another skin that was quite so... pink (Real skin isn't pink!). And the prices are very very good too- 750L for a 4 makeup pack with and without freckles O.O

I made my own shape but use a skin by Nora. I love that it has none of that overly globbed on make-up since my ava looks splendid without it.

Celestial Studios do good skins - that's what I have - I had their CS Passport Malibu freebie one until about a mnth ago then I had a very mild makeover and bought a slightly better CS one. As for shapes, I started with the 'girl-next-door' standard av and immediately modified the shape very subtly to get a more athletic look, which I'm proud to say I've managed to keep for 10 months now despite eating large amounts of pizza on occasions!

I always heard that skin was never meant to be a freebie, but rather it ended up as one due to a permission bug/exploit a long time ago.

From: Conifer Dada Celestial Studios do good skins Between the Vogue and Charmed lines, I have well over 100 Celestial Studios skins. I occasionally buy one I like somewhere else, but I'm pretty much Starley's bitch. If you haven't seen them before, you can check out some of the Vogue line here: http://www.starley.com/2007/01/vogue_skins_are.html

I have to agree that SinSkins are great but recently a wonderful person turned me onto NOMINE skins. They have dramatic looks, and natural looks various skin colors from ultrawhite to deep tan and they are very reasonably priced compared to other skins, at $700L a pop, I usually grab the fat packs. They are way worth it, and I have had many compliments on my skin. I have the ultralight Punk Acid skin on right now and I am in love with the dramatic eye makeup.
As for shapes, I make my own. I don't like the shapes that are out there.

I did my own shape too... still tweaking it after 8 months after starting in the default cybergoth shape. One thing I've started to do besides "save" as new is to put the date in the save name as well as a brief descriptive phrase.. ie "New Shoulders 8/1/07"
Skins... I've tried many. Started out with some transferable ones that people gave me. The first one that I actually purchased was the "Darkness" skin by Real Skin. Great body detail, with enough eyeliner to call it a little bit gothy, and it had the "Bolt" version makeup for a more dramatic look. I was happy with that for months until I found Skin by Max... I guess they're calling themselves The Body Politik now.
When I look for a skin, I basically have 4 check points... eyes, lips, breasts, and genitals... after that I look at more general points like shading, finger & toenails, etc. After trying dozens of other demos, looking for new makeup styles, I still go back to Max and just pick another makeup.
But, you'll find that what you end up choosing will depend on your personal tastes and a great deal on your shape and hairstyle. A skin that looks great on one person's shape may not necessarily look the same on yours. And a hairstyle can change your look tremendously. There are times when I can look anywhere from 18 to 30ish depending on what hair I wear. Always try the demos in various shades to see how its going to look on "you" and don't buy until you're sure its what you like unless its a really great deal.

Check out Robin Sojourner's skins in Livingtree or Serenite. Highly detailed and natural looking.
Mari (Ya, even though I use one of her kid skins, she does some GREAT adult skins!)

Are you kidding? Naughty skins are one of the worst for only working well on some shapes and not at all on others. They're one of the worst to match, imo.

I don't know about shapes (because I made my own). To me the shape is a very personal part of the AV and I like it to be unique. Way too many female shapes are excessively tall and/or have rather pneumatic chests for my liking anyway.
As for skins, my pick is Skin Within. They have skins with a fantastic level of detail especially on the hands. (I'm not of fan of the over smoothed look you get on a lot of skins). They also have a nice range of ethnic skins some of which are quite stunning.

Good point on the hair. I noticed that when I moved over to a more beige (vs. pink) skin tone a few months ago I also had to change hair designers or color packs because the colors so rarely work perfectly for both. I was heartbroken a few days ago when I brought home a SinSkins normal range makeup and discovered that I couldn't wear any of my blond or brunette hair favorites (they all had the wrong undertones- matched the beige look but not a pinker look) and was pretty much limited to black. Instead of the super makeup blending in and giving a generic glam look I can mix and match around- I wind up looking like Snow White no matter how I dress. Which is kinda cool in it's own way, but wasn't *exactly* what I'd been looking for.

From: Khilah Whitfield I have to agree that SinSkins are great but recently a wonderful person turned me onto NOMINE skins. Just only recently discovered NOMINE skins myself and agree they are amazing. Bought some of the ultra white male skins for myself and love them. Saw the punk acid skins and think I'll be buying some of the male ones at a later date, particular liked the acid green makeup around the eyes and hair, that looked pretty cool. Will be taking a look at the some of the skin creators mentioned in this thread, that I haven't seen yet. Edit: Opps lol just realised this is about female skins lol. Oh well

I have had my Nomine skin for quite a long time now and very happy with it, it took me ages and quite a few skins before I was happy. My shape was actually given to me by an ex neighbour who made it, he said it would be perfect for me and it was

I made my own shape and have been tweaking it for over 2 years now. My personal favorite skin is an old one by Naughty called Chase. The new Naughty ones don't fit my shape as well.
