It's very interesting to me that so many assumptions and generalities are made page after page. It's the men that harass the female avatars to voice, it's based on homophobia, the only women that will really worry about it are those in the sex industry, it's dangerous to voice because men will just harass you even more. Hmmm..... I'm a woman and play only a female character in SL. I voice with those that I want to but I have never been bothered by those that I didn't want to voice with. A simple "No, I prefer not to voice with you" or "Not right now" has been enough. In fact if anything I am the one pushing men to voice to confirm their sexual identity. *laughs* I play a lot in Gor and there it's fairly common for women to cross gender play as males. I'm not homophobic but I am straight and if I'm going to be collared by a Master (not including casual sex here) then I would like to know that "He" is male in RL. Straight and homophobic are not synonymous. If someone didn't want to confirm with voice I wouldn't harass them. I would simply move on. And no, I don't just use voice for sex but also for regular conversations with friends. I've been harassed in text but not in voice. I've never felt bothered by voice at all. Sometimes I use it and sometimes I don't. To me it's just another form of communication. I know many men and women both that use it - not just those in the sex industry and not just for sex. Don't be so afraid of it! |
