Wasn't there a horror movie where the killer kept all the people he killed weighted down at the bottom of a lake?

Wow. That's really creepy. I love it. I don't think it's really going to bother anyone really. I don't think there is going to be a noticeable difference in lag...they are just standing there doing nothing.

*screeeeeeeeeeech* /pointing finger

I'm going to go check it out.

Does anyone else sincerely hope that the new search engine with its results based on 'relevance' rather then 'traffic' will help eliminate or at least curb this blatantly unscrupulious gaming for numbers.

I'd really like it if it did. But the thing is, the new search uses traffic as one of its criteria, but it ALSO uses "links". So if you mention a location, or add it as a pick to your profile then it improves the ranking of that place.

End result? We'll have bot-farms AND millions of automated sign-ups a day creating bots who will log-in once, add a store to their profile and never log-in again.

LL really need to seriously consider closing off free account sign-ups, or ditching the google style search, we have enough fake accounts, lets let the real people play SL for a change maybe? I mean, they don't even seem to police it, I created an alt account after free sign-ups came around, and it still cost me $10 or so to get. I find it unlikely that people so horribly gaming the system would be willing to pay $700 for the 70+ avatars they are using, therefore they created free accounts which is circumventing the system (your first account is free, others are supposed to be paid for), so why does LL not shut them down?

There's probably about 100,000 actual players on SL when you strip away all the other crap. What we need is a campaign threatening to make business aware of these kinds of statistics and then maybe LL will learn that falsely inflated numbers are hurting SL for everyone, not benefiting it.

Brilliant - Had to log out of the forums for a few hours to do work (I know! On a Friday! What a liberty!) so I've just spent a great 10 minutes laughing out loud reading through it.

Gee - you guys are SO funny.

Off to Taffs!! Last one there goes in the pit with the zombies .....................!

It says something different in the Knowledge Base. :)

Edit: I take it back. I swear someone posted the changed policy from the KB over here, but all I can find is information stating there still is a fee. However, I WAS told by two Lindens on the Support Portal that they weren't charging anymore. :-/

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I guess the rules on this are not to clear because I was told by a couple of inworld helpers that one free alt was okay.

:( I get there, and I can't even see them.

Edit: Oh, nevermind. After Michael mentioned getting the camera down there, I got it to work. Damned pool keeps spitting my camera out, though.

Ahhh this is all making sense to me now.

This morning i was checking Popular Places looking for a specific location,.. anyway whilst casting my eyes upon this listing...i saw the Skins Oasis (B&B Skins) location with 105k worth of traffic.!!!

I thought to myself....No way! Not even the most popular Skin houses come anywhere close to that in terms of traffic!! I thought i'd better go investigate this .....expecting to see an armada of campers. When I arrived to my amazement there were only about 8 green dots including the owner....i had a good look around even flew up to 700m where i discovered various buildings........but no bots! I flew back down again and apart form 2 rotating models, they seemed all like genuine shoppers. I left the location puzzled as to how they acheived 105k worth of traffic.........until that is ...stumbling across this thread a few minutes ago.

So yes, I went back to check again and immediately recognised that this was the location i visited this morning. Mapping the location i saw a stack of green dots and quickly located the pond/oasis with an army of bots below.

That explains yesterday's traffic of 105k

Phew, i'm glad i cleared that up.........I thought i was missing a marketing trick here!
