Where do you change clothes?

Having been in Europe a number of times, I can say that American attitudes about nudity are quite different. In parts of Europe it is not uncommon for men and women to occupy a sauna (including the showers, hot tub, etc., not just the "hot box";) together nude.

Once in the US several people from Germany were with a few of us Americans at a conference in a hotel. We were in the pool and then a German woman went with a couple of American women to the sauna. Just before we went in the German woman started to pull off her swimsuit. Just as one boob was exposed the American women freaked out. In Germany I had been in the sauna and hot tub with that same woman sans clothing. They think nothing of it.

I have had a few trips on business to Germany. On one I was at a hotel with some local women I worked with. After a swim we went to the sauna area of the hotel, took off our swim suits and relaxed in the hot tub. I felt wierd enough being naked with other women. But then several men who I knew walked in, took off their suits, and joined us. I about died. But after a while I got used to it, and on the following trips it seemed to be perfectly normal to be in a sauna with nude men and women.

However, that is Germany. I would not feel the same in America, and there seem to be American men in SL. So I would not be nude with other people in SL unless it was German.

I would also consider being nude in a real "naturist" place in SL, but the places I have heard of in SL that are nude are also sex places. Real "naturists" do not consider nudity to be sexual.

So I always change in changing rooms or other places where there are no people.

Yes, yes, we know that. And everyone who sees their avatar as a projection of themselves in this virtual world is just STUPID, right? After all, it's just pixels. Nobody can really fall in love. Nobody can really feel relaxed sitting on a virtual beach and chatting with friends or enjoying the sunset. Nobody can really feel exhilarated after a night of dancing in a great SL club with great music blasting out of their speakers. And nobody can really feel uncomfortable when the avatar that represents them is partially or wholly naked in a public area when they would hate to be in that situation in RL.

Nope. Because it's not real and everyone who projects onto their avatar is just stupid. Got that. Thank you. :)

P.S. Not everybody thinks like you.

What I don’t understand is that changing clothes in a non-sexual context can be seen as offensive, if it’s done quickly as a replacement. And that SL *might* have a glitch and not rez the clothes fast enough, so that a blurry avatar skin *might* be visible. That the possibility that this *might* happen is enough that some don’t dare to change clothes if another avatar is in eyesight.

I have problems understanding that, but I have no problems understanding that some people feel that way. You do as you please.

I wish that you will grant me the same in return. I step aside in privacy when I deliberately will be nude and examine a skin or a tattoo demo. For your sake, in case you won’t look at pixel nudity. If I will change clothes and not risk a crash by TP home, I will like to do so and if my skin appears in a sec or two, see that as a side effect of playing SL. We cannot avoid SL glitches all the time.

You're not necessarily stupid.

Pep (But I feel *so* sorry that you have to experience this in sl not rl)

If I want to change clothes, I step away from any large crowds in case something goes wrong (Looks embarssing and I'm thinking more of items that don't rezz or don't remove than nudity) and dress from the inside out, changing the lyotard/dance pants/glotch pants first and the dress second or the pants and shirt second if I'm dressing less formally. Since I'm replacing underware and not stripping down, there's little chance I'll end up nude, but I could end up weird.

There is one club where I do go home to change and that is only because it is so lagged, I can't get prim clothing to rezz well there, but that is a recent issue.

Skell, Second Life does weird things with a lot of people's heads including my own. Yes, I have felt like I was floating when I sky dived, and the skiing felt a bit like real skiing and lately ice skating is very realistic. Swimming is also fun though it doesn't feel wet.

Still you are not supposed to show nudity in PG areas. But I think even in mature areas people get embarrassed by stripping accidentally.

That's why I love my fur. I don't need to worry about ending up naked. :)

I'm not quite sure if you understood my post or not, Iyoba. The phrasing of your reply doesn't indicate whether you're agreeing or disagreeing with me. I was actually being sarcastic about the piece I quoted, because of *course* it's possible to feel those things, sometimes as much in SL as in RL.

Just wanted to set that straight, in case you thought I was seriously saying people are stupid for feeling that way about SL :)
