Some people say they use their home to change clothes, and I've heard this alot, but I can't understand the reasoning personally.
So I'm here today to ask if you go anywhere specific, and if so, why?
I change clothes a ton, wherever I happen to be. I don't strip down and put on new clothes, I just replace them, so I see no reason to hide myself or anything. One of my friends turns around when I do it, and it's courteous and all, but still seems a little odd to me. I don't go home because A. I see no reason to and B. I try not to teleport for little things, since SL can hate it when you do that. Silly SL.
So again...
Do you go anywhere specific to change your clothes, and if so, why?

Well I frequent places that are not nudist colonies by any means so I try not to strip down in front of everyone. I've gotten quite good at doing this. I often put a jacket on that covers everything then change underneath it. I've also put skirts on or some other bodylength attachment. I have seen terrible mistakes made by others during the changing process where they were completely nude to everyone but themselves apparently. Often a shirt or pants do not instantly switch

I usually go home, for the following reasons:
- if something embarrassing happens, like a wig up your butt or taking off your shirt when you meant to remove your undershirt, no one sees it - you can rez a pose stand which is really handy for making adjustments - RP - I don't change my clothes in public in RL, so I don't tend to in SL, either
That said, I got changed at the Hangout yesterday because I wanted to show off my pretty new dress and it seemed silly to leave and return again.

First, I do Detach all, then I do remove all clothing, then I drag the new folder I want onto myself. Perhaps for a moment ill be naked, but you know what? Ive never cared, nor has anyone else.. maybe I get a snicker every now and then but SL isn't real life anyway

Hmm......I don't usually change clothes more than once a day, unless I have multiple events with different dress requirements. I usually dress for the next day, the night before, before I sign out........which generally is at home. One reason I choose to dress at home is that the first person I met in SL when I first entered, told me it was rude to dress in front of people, another reason is that I don't always know what I want to wear and I don't want to just be sitting there in a crowd or with friends with my nose in wardrobe sifting through stuff or trying stuff on. I dunno, some people are just as modest in SL as in RL....I'm not so much, but I want to be respectful of the people around me who might be, so more times than not, I will tp home to change or walk around a corner out of direct sight.

Am I an oddity then?
I really don't ever take off clothes unless there is going to be nothing in that spot when I'm done changing (Even attachments)
I find the folder of the outfit(s) I wanna wear, and while still wearing something else, I right click>wear the individual pieces. That way I only get what I want to wear, and my collar doesn't come off, so I don't get in trouble again. I've never done the 'replace outfit' or dragging of things to my body to wear them, just seems clunky to me somehow.

I do this a lot too....or I dress right after I sign in which is always at home. I don't tend to change more than once a day myself, but if I have to change to attend something specific, I usually will tp home. I'm one of those who will try on half of the closet before I find something I actually want to wear.

I change wherever...I pretty practiced at changing clothes quickly, so i could be sat on the stool at the hangout and look totally didfferent by the time you've turned around lol. I change clothes a lot. If i didnt, i'd never wear half the stuff i own lol.
i don't normally have problems with flashing myself or anythign. i dont like it, so Im careful. i know which clothes take a while to solidify and flash me, so i put a jacket on or turn around.
If Sl is messy, i'll just fly to a low lag sim, there are a few water ones where i can change underwater.
Though i do log on at home and change first there, get dressed for the day, that sort of thing. And i do all my attachment adjusting at home if i can.
The one problem i have with changing wherever, is changing avvies. i need to learn to change these quicker and smoother. I'm practising lol.

From: Rhaorth Antonelli instead of doing it that way, just right click on the folder and choose replace outfit
it will auto remove all attachments and clothes and replace with everything in the folder
right-click and choosing "add to outfit" is what I do, so I don't lose all my jewelry/huds/gadgets when I change my clothes. Then I type (worn) in the search field of my inventory and pick off any remaining bits of the old outfit (or old avatar) that I don't want to wear anymore. To answer the OP's question, I don't change clothes in public because I don't. I'm not crazy about seeing naked avatars wandering around in areas where nudity doesn't fit the setting and I'm more than happy to do my part to make sure that doesn't happen. Now it's true that I am one of the more modest avatars you will meet in SL - I don't like to show a lot of (blue) skin under any circumstances - and so I'm certainly not going to get naked in front of everyone just because I decide to change my clothes. But I don't think it's that much to ask for people to make the effort in public places not to flash everyone around them when they change outfits. I don't always TP home - sometimes I just step out of the immediate field of view (i.e., into another room). Yes, I know that cameras can follow me - if someone is that desperate to see my little blue pixels naked then they can just go ahead and knock themselves out. The point is to be considerate to those who maybe *don't* want to see a naked person in the middle of the hangout, cafe, mall, whatever.

I'm homeless.
If I want to try on a bunch of clothes and avs I just bought, I"ll got to the bottom of the ocean. Otherwise, I can change anywhere without getting naked by replacing an item for another similar. I'll usually step away from the group if I think it more proper to do so in certain circumstances.
I was at a shop yesterday, and stepped outside a little ways off to try on a blouse. It came in different layers, and the first one covered everything but my boobies. Of course that is the 1st layer I put on... During my quick change, I got an IM from someone I presume was in the shop, (wasn't wearing my mysti tool). She asked me where I got my eyelashes and we talked a bit while I searched for a LM, etc. Not sure if she saw my boobies or not, but it didn't bother me. When I step away to change, it's for the benefit of others.

Usually I change at home....but I don't change more than once a day unless there's an unexpected event or project I need to create a character for.
But..I usually log in at home and change then.......and if I decide to tp back to change...it's normally because I am going to spend some time working out exactly what look I'll be using. I don't have folders of individual outfits because it's never the same thing twice for me and I have tons of skins and hair so usually changing for me is a big project lol

Wow reading the replies I feel like a right hussy! I have no shame, I change where I am, several times a day as I change my mind so often (Not just in SL or with clothes) also, to make it worse, I go from human to Neko a few times a day if in the mood! I go home if i'm going to be adjusting things or messing with new hair or the first time I buy clothes so I can see if I even like them on, but as for changing clothes i'm used to, I do it anywhere.
I don't use the dragging of an outfit though as I normally mix things up & even change them each time to go with something different, so it'd never be the same & it'd be a nightmare! I haven't often gone naked or anything, topless a few times sure. I'm not worried though really if someone sees pixel breasts, big deal. I understand in PG areas or in front of SL kids it might be a problem if anything shows but I only have *accidents* with tops for some reason & if others can't cope, they can look away or TP.
Far as I know my friends have no issue with it & i've only gone topless twice, but then I do live on a gay orientated sim so it's not an issue. I'd go topless RL on a beach or whatever so SL is no biggie to me, but then everyones different & if I knew it was considered rude to someone I was with, i'd respect that & go elsewhere

I have not changed for around a couple of months and my brown suede shoes have not been removed for over a year.If I get hot I will remove my old tweed jacket in public, but my shoes will probably stay on for good.My wife and kids think I am an old fogey as I am the same in RL.

I have my inventory set up so that when I change clothes I just have to right click on a folder and chose "replace outfit". I try to arrive at places already dressed appropriately and I guess for some reason I'm not big on being seen with my arms straight out and "editing appearance" over my head. But if for any reason I do want to change clothes when I'm not home I don't mind "replacing" my "outfit" where ever I happen to be. And occasionally I do go into the folders and pick and choose individual items. I don't think people usually see me naked but it wouldn't be that embarrassing to me (in sl or rl) if it happened inadvertently for a moment.

One thing I'm also not understanding, that is brought forth by this thread, is editing appearance. Why would you do this? Do you not normally have items already set up for your own body?
Everything I own gets set up for my body immediately after buying it, including changing attachment points.
Thats the one time I go home for something clothes related. To sit on a pose stand and adjust stuffs.

inventory right click>wear... so easy and I laugh at the ones that "go underwater" to change, first its a AV not you, second there is no need to remove all your clothes, and I think if your layering so much stuff on that you may forget to change your under pants its not like they are really dirty!
