I'm one of those that normally changes at home and likes my look to be complete before going out in public. Like others who have commented, I've put time and care into having my av look good, so I don't like that transition period of changing item by item in public... also in my view, sometimes my entire skin and outfit will blur out when changing even a single item. I'm less concerned about the nudity and more concerned with appearance... call me vain :P

Like others, I usually slip into something comfortable or sleep naked (I don't log out to sleep in RL), and choose my outfit when I wake up, then normally I don't change again unless I'm attending another event in the evening. I keep an inventory of various styles and like to dress somewhat appropriately for any given occasion.

A lot of my clothing folders come with various colors, layers or sizes of prim attachments inside so even doing "add to outfit" can give some unexpected results. I did that with some prim nails last night, forgetting that the folder included two sizes... of course it was the larger ones that were too big for my hands that loaded.

The issue of "what I see" is not "what you see" has come up a couple times as well. I once tped into a club that I had never been to before to see one of my favorite DJs. After being there a few moments, I got an IM from one of the staff saying that nudity was not allowed there. I was wearing a skimpy silks outfit, but my feminine parts were covered and I replied to her as such also saying that if my clothing was not appropriate, I would gladly leave... which I did in the course of our conversation (and have never gone back there, btw). It turns out that my top had not rezzed for her viewer.

Just last week, I was at another club and a female av came in. I was thinking her top (or mini dress) was kind of cute so I cammed over for a closer look and it seemed to me that she was totally naked on the bottom. A few minutes later, her shorts were visible to me. Whether she forgot them at first or that they just hadn't rezzed for me yet, I don't know.

I am always naked in my homes. I am a cartoon, after all. When I go shopping etc I put on a pair of Kristauf jeans which have a slogan on them and a black teeshirt. But l find a cartoon version of me worried about changing clothes rather odd.

When I was a homeless kitty I used to change on this spit of "Island" right next to Naughty Island's main store (I have a naughty skin).

I'd take everything off and slowly figure out what to wear, being comfortably naked for quite a while. At the time my mentality was "this is a virtual world, who cares?", and after a while, I realized that all the attention I was attracting might not be good (yes, many would stop, land and watch or talk to me while I was nekkies).

Once I got a home I would change there in the illusion of privacy.

Now I'm a pretty good quick change artist and will change anywhere, usually without flashing anyone.

I find that I am more self conscious of myself now than I was in the beginning, which I attribute to feeling more of myself/my personality enmeshed in my virtual self. Although -- this is the really bizarre thing... I'm MUCH more reserved in SL than RL.

Any way, that's my mini essay on the subject.

I have learned to go to "The Changing Room". I think it's at LaLady. It's a woman's only store and they have lots of changing rooms.

If you walk in on someone just excuse yourself and find another one. I accidently went in to a changing room today that was occupied. I was trying my hardest to get out of the room but my computer was not cooperating with me. The lady, and I use the term lightly, got very rude with me. She said "This is my private changing room. Get out Bitch!". To which I replied that I was trying my dangdest to get out of there. I told her she did not have to be so rude and informed her that I am not a Bitch.

I change at the bottom of the ocean. Or 1000m in the air, on a platform I built.

Bec, not sure if you found out yet, but the Cookie Monster PJs are at PajamaRama on Ramos Island. I will send you the LM...

Nice to know. It always seems hard to find non-sexy clothes. (Not that I have any problem with sexy clothes in their place, of course. ;-) Fun shop. I decided that I don't need logo jammies that badly, though, so I'll stick with my home-made long johns for now, at least until such a time as there is someone to see me in them. ;-)

home, almost always. It's never just a minor change anyway, more of full look overhaul.

and before I do the "detach all/remove all clothes", I gently, gingerly, hold my breath and pray as I remove one at a time: ALL 8 dance huds (20 dances each) and my dance sphere which contains over 240 dances.

I never drag a folder over me. I always choose one piece at a time to wear from the folder, even outfits with loads of attachments.

JIRA 6110 is still a very real threat and so far (knocks on wood), I've been lucky not to lose any of my HUDDLES quick pose huds or my main dance sphere.

If I actually have to get naked to change there is this gentleman's club with a dressing area for the dancers that they don't mind if I use.

Either that or if I am all alone in a dead and mature area then I will just do it there.
Hopefully no one drops in while I change, it has not happened yet.

Often, if I am trying clothes and want to spend some time in my undies, or even naked, I will TP to a changing room. One is the Temple changing romms where there is complete privacy and another is on Noob Island. In the Noob island there are several changing rooms where there may be other women, but it is women only.

For just a quick change of a shirt or skirt any private place where there are no people around will do.

Currently homeless, I either change at places where it cool to be naked at or underwater. I do hate it when a guy starts talking to me while I am changing or naked for a moment. Then I have to tp somewhere else.

It's not any of my business where you come from in RL. But I can't help wondering if the majority of those who will never change in public are Americans?

Since public nudity is a much bigger issue in the US than some European countries. When Janet Jackson showed a boob, we were just giggling and saying: "Only in America could that be such a big deal". It's not that I think Europeans are better than American, but there are some cultural changes?

As you guess, I can replace my clothing in public. I usually go home for opening boxes. And for trying on various clothes and mix and match.

Before I got a place on my own, I used the changing rooms in Alady isle. I am not worried about my pixel nudity, but I can show a bit of respect for other cultures than my own. Trying on skins and tattos aren't done in public. Just out of respect for others.

SL glitches that might show me naked a second or two don't bother me. It is SL after all. How can we avoid it totally?

When I was roleplaying in a Wild West sim where it was supposed to be 1870, I meet a woman in the street dressed in what I thought was long underwear. I wasn't sure if that was part of her story - was she roleplaying running from someone, not having time to get properly dressed? So I sent her a IM asking why she wasn't wearing more clothes... got a ??? back. I took a snapshot and sent it to her, getting a "OMG nothing of my prim clothes have rezzed". She returned a snapshot of her in a beautiful victorian gown with prim skirt and sleeves. Even rebake and edit appearance didn't help, so she put on a new gown that I saw the prim parts off. Typically SL!

This wasn't her fault, not mine. Different viewers can show different things. It is a part of SL and we can show some tolerance and ask politely in IM if someone look strange dressed. In this case, it didn't help that she had dressed in private. She saw herself fully dressed. It's happened to everyone. *shrug*

As a gentle reminder, there generally is no need to be naked at all in SL unless you are checking out a new skin, or are ... hm, naked with a purpose. ;)

Even though my account is 2 years old now and I have my own home, I just switch outfits by replacing the pieces. I don't get naked unless I intend to be naked.

Having been in Europe a number of times, I can say that American attitudes about nudity are quite different. In parts of Europe it is not uncommon for men and women to occupy a sauna (including the showers, hot tub, etc., not just the "hot box";) together nude.

Once in the US several people from Germany were with a few of us Americans at a conference in a hotel. We were in the pool and then a German woman went with a couple of American women to the sauna. Just before we went in the German woman started to pull off her swimsuit. Just as one boob was exposed the American women freaked out. In Germany I had been in the sauna and hot tub with that same woman sans clothing. They think nothing of it.

As for Janet J., I saw a tape of the "wardrobe malfunction" on a hi res. big screen. Sitting up close you couldn't see anything worth watching.

Some people say they use their home to change clothes, and I've heard this alot, but I can't understand the reasoning personally.

I use my home to change clothes, or at least a private place.

On the other hand, I get stripped or my clothes ripped off quite often, so I have lots of opportunities to change into a different dress or whatever...

Why is it that lesbians always end up getting ripped apart ?? :-)

It is just pixels... I change when I want or I need... thought I have been avoiding changing in big official meetings like Linden's office hours.

I pretty much change where ever and when ever I want, it's easy enough to do it quickly.

Usually if changing a top or pants, I just click wear in my inventory and it replaces the old one.....easy.

If it's really crowed, I may go home and change, but usually not.

I once changed in my car for a party....

Oh you mean in SL?

depends.... I find a quiet spot if I am out and go somewhere I find I am not dressed for... formal dance and I wear jeans for instance..
otherwise it is in my skybox. where I can test my dances out and make sure I remember to wear panties..

I remember when I was a newB about 2 weeks old. I was at a club. Some guy handed me a folder that said mens clothes lol I put them on standing in the crowd. Before I knew it I was dressed in high heels and panties and braw, hose and garter belts.

Ever since that day, I go home to change lol
