I really enjoyed my trip to San Fransisco this year and I agree that overall its probably a cheaper alternative to NYC. This sounds like a great excuse for me to come back out and visit again

No matter where it is it's hard for somebody to get to. And no matter where it is, there will always be somewhere better for some reason.
I'm definitely looking forward to it! |

West Coast - yeah!
03-13-2006 05:40
I'm thrilled it's in San Francisco - no need to travel for me! Plus the participation of the Lindens who I'm sure many of us would like to meet, yes?
But maybe those of you on the East Coast might pull together another gathering? Why not? |

glad to see some forward momentum on this!
i'll try to work on a new "name tag" design and submit such for review by those putting it together, as well as presenting it to the community.. yes? also, i was wondering if there are any plans to make use of the facilities for some RL music, such as was seen in the recent RL/SL crossover event. with what's available there, as well as the popularity of the GGNRA, not only would it be cool for us.. but perhaps, some passersby could be welcome at certain functions? such as a musical concert of sorts. now if i can just manage to get everything in order in RL to allow for my attendance at this years SLCC, everything will be groovy. ![]() _____________________

Phoenix could not read the 4/18 metaverse message for the scoops. Can you give any more info than just the date that i missed. I sure am interested and would like more info. Thank you ~ T Hmm... what sort of problem were you having accessing it? PM or IM me if you like. Anyway, here is the story: From the 04-18-2006 Metaverse Messenger: Date set for SLCC2 By PHOENIX PSALTERY Staff writer The news came from unnamed sources Friday that that the second incarnation of the Second Life Community Conference has been scheduled for August 18-20 in San Francisco, California, headquarters of Linden Lab. The event reportedly will be held at the Fort Mason Center, a National Historic Landmark and part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which hosts more than 15,000 events attended by 1.6 million visitors each year. It contains a total of 300,000 square feet of floor space in nine Mission Revival styled buildings, including meeting rooms that can accommodate 400, two pavilions that can hold 3,000 and 5,000, and the 437-seat Cowell Theater, a state-of-the-art performance space. The Mason Center is a former military base, which, until 1962, was an embarkation port for soldiers and sailors headed for the Pacific during the Korean conflict and World War II. In 1972 the U.S. Congress created the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA), an urban park containing 74,000 acres along 28 miles of California coastline. Fort Mason was included in the park. By 1976, the National Park Service had received more than 400 proposals for use of Fort Mason. In 1977, the Fort Mason Center opened its doors. The GGNRA is one of the largest and most visited national parks in the United States. World-famous landmarks within the park include Alcatraz Island, the Muir Woods National Monument, the Presidio of San Francisco, the Marin Headlands, Cliff House, and the Fort Point National Historic Site. Some of the events that return to the Center year after year are the Arts of Pacific Asia Show, the Tribal & Textile Arts Show, the Contemporary Crafts Market, Photo SF, the Celebration of Craftswomen, the San Francisco Fall Antiques Show, and the Pacific Orchid Exposition. All of this means that in addition to the SLCC-specific activities that are planned (no specifics on those are available yet), there should be a lot of other things to keep SLers entertained over the three day schedule. In addition, the Fort Mason Center is only about two miles from the offices of Linden Lab. The schedule for this year’s convention is not yet available, but the agenda for last fall’s gathering in New York City included speakers from Linden Lab and the gaming industry, various sessions and panel discussions, an in-world convention site simultaneously operating in parallel with the Reality-based convention site, and, perhaps best of all, the opportunity to meet many of your fellow residents in person. FlipperPA Peregrine of the Electric Sheep Company, who is heavily involved in the planning of the event, declined to confirm the exact status of the convention plans, saying, "I can only say we've been looking at that place. We haven't closed anything, by any means. The team continues to work towards a place that will have final confirmation." Forthcoming announcements about SLCC2 will be available at www.slconvention.org, while more information about the Fort Mason Center can be found at www.FortMason.org. P2 _____________________

logo ideas
05-06-2006 10:03
i'm assuming there will be a new logo for SLCC 06, yes? if so, maybe we should do something with the trolley theme? maybe a trolley half-buried in the ground? ..hehe
but seriously.. San Fran is known for the whole trolley thing to those not from the area.. well that and Rice-a-Roni, but for some reason i'm not seeing a dish of rice as all that great of a symbol for SLCC, lol. it's also important to figure that out early enough for designing the nametags. regardless of who gets that "privelage" this year. ![]() i saw that the SLCC site has been changed to include "06" and everything else is gone. it's getting me all giddy with excitement! _____________________

OMG...Dallas would be great
05-18-2006 12:41
Just out of curiousity, Flipper, why not pick a couple of major cities - say San Francisco, Las Vegas, Dallas, Chicago, Miami and NYC, and put it up for a community vote? As Newfie say, it would definitely feel like more of a community event if it actively reflected what the community wants. SF is not a bad choice - but it would seem something more centrally located would be better, like Chicago or Dallas, just out of fairness to everyone involved. That would be awesome it you guys could have it in Dallas. Darko and I would be able to be there for sure. We would love to be able to come to SF but might be kinds of hard for us. Look forward though to the turn out. ![]() _____________________
