I also wanted to offer up another way to RP. I have successfully hosted a murder mystery that was typed up by a friend of mine. We had 8 players that took the role of one of the 8 characters in the game. I built a castle to help with the immersion and scripts and wha clues should be released through roleplaying were handing out at each turn. There were 4 turns or 3 turns I believe that ended in revealing the murderer.
It was interactive and fun and came to a conclusion in less than 3 and a half hours of game play.
We started out sitting at a dinner table in a large dining hall. The theme was hollywood 20's...not quite sure. As the game progressed, actors began to play their parts and made use of chat drop off to gossip about key clues of the game. In order to pick up on these clues you had to stumble close enough to read the local chat. So you had to be watchful of who left a room with who and follow close enough to hear.
You could set up objects to interact...leave about prim newspapers with articles..and much more. Wha made it fun was the live interaction of 7 other players.
I am willing to host another game and build props, if there are others out there that can bring in the text/information/profiles to run one. I believe there are many books out there with predesigned mysteries.

Why not buy a sim island and do rpg....
say like aliens or predator and make into an rpg similar to the current vampire rpg in sl.
only allow it to be modifyable with a note of wat modifyables are allowed and which will be breach of sim rules. I still havent seen any character avatars from these movies tho.

While you may not have seen your favorite cult film characters, there already are several genres of rpg on private islands. There is an Elven themed cluster of four islands, a large "furry" archipelago, and also over a dozen islands with residents engaged in role playing from the Gorean culture depicted by the novels of John Norman. Take a look at the Law Society Group Forum for some case studies on the latter.

Phantasmagoria of Flower View (Or rather, I dare anyone to attempt to do that in SL ) If people are going to dress up and shoot particles at each other, may as well make it a game! (Just a shame there's no client side 'collided with particle' event)

I think this could be done fairly easily here; roleplaying it wouldn't require much 'suspension of belief'. *grin grin* Make the outfits, have chummy missions to accomplish, etc. Those not familiar with it can just google Paranoia RPG - should do the job. Product of West End Games.
PARANOIA IS FUN. OTHER GAMES ARE NOT FUN. PLAY PARANOIA. **the Computer says so** **the Computer is always right**

Damn you all.
Plain and simple.
Damn you all.
*goes and plugs my C64 back into my TV and sits down to play Spy vs. Spy* *curses because none of the 10 joysticks I have are working properly* *goes to find a C64 ROM of Spy vs. Spy* *while looking fires up the CD of every Zork text base game and picks one at random*
Out of curiousity, can you program MONO in "Z-Code"? Now that would be nice...
*decides to start working on a LSL Z-Code translator*
Must have Zork....
Someone else needs to get working on Spy vs. Spy now damnit!
Damn you all...
P.S. Katamari would be sweet too...
P.P.S. Seriously, Damn you all.

Nethack

So, it would require a ridiculous amount of coding and a HUD to map to all the keys on a standard keyboard, but the cool factor would be through the ROOF! I mean, heck, Nethack is a legendary game ported to pretty much every platform that has ever existed, but not to Second Life...not yet. Persig

there was an old computer game I loved called 'Push Your Luck'...
Here's how it worked:
You roll two dice that acted as blockers. Any of the dice that matched either of these was lost for the turn.
You then roll 5 dice to start, and scored points based on the result that didn't get blocked. any blocked dice are removed, and can't be rolled again. If you want to roll again, you may, as many times as you wish, as long as you have dice left. You can also stop at any time, but if you run out of dice, you lose your score for that turn. Winning score is agreed upon at the start.
Example:
My two blocker dice are 1 and 4.
My first regular roll is 5 1 3 4 5. I score 13 points for the 5s and the 3, and lose the 1 and 4. I can stop with those 13, but I choose to go on.
My second roll comes up as 2 3 5. I lose no dice, and score another 10, for a total of 23 this round, and elect to roll again.
Roll 3 is 5 1 5. Total is now 33, and two dice left. Once more, I decide.
#4 is 1 4. Oops... I pushed my luck too far, and busted, scoring nothing. Should've taken the 33 and ran.
--------------------------
Another thing I'd like to see come to SL is an improvement to an already-existing game: bowling. Being a RL kegler, I'm appalled at the lack of proportion the game has here... pins are absolutely GINORMOUS, lanes are too wide and short, and so on. I've made a realistic pin, but it doesn't collide properly yet...

From: Hamlet Linden Computer games, video games, board games, card games, whatever. Which ones would you love to see make their way into SL, in some new incarnation? how games such as euchre and cribbage. they are both fun in a social context and in tournament for those who are even more competitive.

I would be willing to help set up some type of Command and Conquer in Second Life. I currently have a full sized Barracks (which fits into a 16x32 parcel) and a Hum-vee that's almost textured and needs an engine - 25 prims including wheels and turret . And I hear there are giant-sized miniatures game abound - BearHammer, Space Marines and Necrons. I only have a basic soldier made so far. - Jolan
