Computer games, video games, board games, card games, whatever. Which ones would you love to see make their way into SL, in some new incarnation?

I would have to agree there, hehe, rolling up gigantic houses and mini-malls, X3 hearing the screams and telephones ringing,

Katamari Damacy! So I'm not the only one to think the same thing! ^_^

Aside from that, I'd like to see some RTS made into SL. Something like Command & Conquer or even Starcraft with mini figures for the units. And more FPS games put in, like Goldeneye 007 from the Nintendo64. Those levels were awesome.

PARANOIA: The Roleplaying Game of a Darkly Humorous Future

//This document has been classified as Red Clearance. Citizens of Infrared Clearance reading this document should report to the nearest Termination Center immediately. Stay Happy!//

I think this could be done fairly easily here; roleplaying it wouldn't require much 'suspension of belief'. *grin grin*
Make the outfits, have chummy missions to accomplish, etc. Those not familiar with it can just google Paranoia RPG - should do the job. Product of West End Games.

PARANOIA IS FUN. OTHER GAMES ARE NOT FUN. PLAY PARANOIA.

* Doom: if we could get an RTS working as smoothly as the first Doom, that would be a big step forward for using SL as a game development platform.

* SimCity: Creating a zoning, power, water and transportation infrastructure for a growing metropolis is fun. Could it be incorporated into the meta-game of SL without alienating existing players? Dubious... but you never know...

* Magic: The Gathering - A true collectable card game within the SL framework would be challenging to incorporate but fun to play.

* Penguin Toss - Knocking flightless birds around with a huge club? What's not to love?

Ha, I'm so glad others suggested *Katamari*, I love that game, too. When I blurbed it for Wired, I was thinking, "You know, since we already got physics in SL, and you can already attach objects to other objects, I wonder if..."

Yes, but only 31 prims per physical object. I could actually write a script to make Katamari Demancy work beyond the tech limitations ("virtual" linking behavior, like I showed you), but methinks the sim would cry bloody murder on Havok 1.

I would like to see: "Resident Second Life" or "Silent Hill: The Club"

Because most of 'em are zombies anyway, the pursuit of brains wouldn't hurt! :D

God, I'd LOVE that! being an RE nut, the idea occured to me fairly quickly, though I haven't done much in the way of acting upon it.. But imagine a full-scale model of the RPD building from RE2, or the Spencer Mansion from the original!

But with the RPD, at least, you'd need a bit of artistic interpretation, though. When one lines up the floor-maps from RE2, it's quickly discovered that in many places the different levels don't just not line up, they often do so rather drastically.

And then there're RE-character avatars.. Hmm. :D

Right on! I have been a SimCity god since whatever version was around in 1994. I still play SimCity4, every now and again.

Beyond that, I'd love to see a version of Ms. Pacman where the avatar gets to be Ms. Pacman. In other words, running around a maze eating dots and ghosts. :D

I'd like to see a giant Monopoly with real land parcels and buildings spread all throughout the game.

Wait a minute...I think we already have that....

Plausible idea of Katamari (feel free to take idea for your own and run)
05-12-2005 19:27
Note the following is just an idea, which I believe could be implemented, but make no promises to how well and/or if it will work.

* Idealy an entire special island sim is dedicated to the task.

Roll around a big sphere, probably sitting on something floating behind giving you the 3rd person view.

All "things" that can be picked up at your current size are phantom, when you touch them they become invisible, the ball grows and texture optionally changes some.

Larger things (in particular long items) may have a copy of themselves actually get attached to the sphere to give you the feeling of the katamari being lopsided, the original should be still invisable.

When you are large enough to pick on AVs that happen to be in the sim, play scream sound and TP them home, increasing sphere size accordingly.

Have special venders that people can sell items from, but can also be picked up :)

When time is up kill the katamari (preferably by lifting it above the sim and turing it into a star that dies in a min or so :) )
send shouts for objects to reappear.

A small version (ie fits in a room) should not be that hard.. if I had time I'd create it.. try that, then if it works see if you can scale it up.

And now for somethig off the wall.

What about a LARP version of Toon or Murphy's World
Both are paper and pen games and involve really bad jokes.
Toon is based soley on the ideas of it's name. Tom and Jerry style antics and the like.
Murphy's World: A really bad rip off of Murphy's laws. here Ogres are Heavy metal freaks and Elves are truly stuck up. having dust bunnies are grounds for execution as they can destory entire cities so CLEAN YOUR ROOM!

I've rolled the idea around in my head of making Scrabble in SL. It might be possible. Not without rpc and email stuff though, nowhere near enough memory in SL for dictionaries. It would be prim heavy. And take some pretty fancy, sort of mathy programming, which I'm not so good at. So I've laid the idea aside for now.

Legith: While I'll admit that a Katamary Damaci clone is doable on the conceptual level...

... tell that to the physics system! :D

I'd bet you L$100 that after a few houses, you'd hose the sim. Even one of the fastest ones. ;)

Text adventures
05-12-2005 22:10
As backwards as this may sound. I'd love to play text adventures in SL.

For those of you familiar with those, I don't mean doing Zork in prims and scripts (though please please please do that someone!)

I mean a single prim that would listen to a single person's input and respond game text back to them. That way others could "watch" and make suggestions.

Since text adventures, particular those programmed in "Inform", can run in PHP and.. well frankly any language, I'm hoping it would be possible to make a link between SL and existing on-line text games.

Here is how I would envision such game using Zork as an example. *note the game would be rather "spammy" but intentionally so.

*after touching the game and keying it to me
(also note since there is so much to be input, one used slashed text to exclude the game rather than other way around.)

a white house, with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here.

Blueman Steele: /What should I do Travis?

Travis Lambert: open the mailbox I bet.

Blueman Steele: open mailbox

game cube:Opening the small mailbox reveals a leaflet.

Blueman Steele: oh cool!

game cube:[I don't know the word "oh".]

Blueman Steele: /oops.. oh cool

Travis Lambert: yea remember you have to slash your text.

Blueman Steele:LOOK

Blueman Steele:TAKE LEAFLET

Travis Lambert: why are you shouting at the game?

game cube:Taken.

Blueman Steele:READ IT

game cube:"WELCOME TO ZORK!

game cube: ZORK is a game of adventure, danger, and low cunning. In it you will explore
game cube: some of the most amazing territory ever seen by mortals. No computer
should be without one!"

Blueman Steele:N

[floating text]: North of House: Score 0/0

game cube: You are facing the north side of a white house. There is no door here, and all
the windows are boarded up. To the north a narrow path winds through the trees.

Travis Lambert: Hey try going north.

Blueman Steele:E

Travis Lamber: hmmpf fine.

one corner of the house there is a small window which is slightly ajar.

game cube: saving game....

Blueman Steele: reset..

Pacman...

I had some crude Pacman AVs that I made a year ago... and I made a prim mini-board...

I considered how to script it, but overall, it'd be fun as heck to have 4 people be ghosts, maybe force the ghosts into mouselook so that the game would be fair.

How about a multiplayer Thief? Few years ago, some folks created MP:Thief with the Unreal Tournament engine, where one side played thieves, the other side played guards. You know, like Counterstrike meets medieval cat burglary. Trouble was, it never really took off as a mod, probably because shooter fans aren't used to the slow paced, stealth action of Thief. But here could be a case where the relatively low frame rate of SL would work well, in a first-person game. Add some good sound propogation, and a light detection system which allows the thief in darkness to disappear, and there ya go.

The double-edged sword (pun intended) of games that are avatar-centric is preventing people from using "forbidden scripts" to get an unfair advantage on combat.

Sim owners could really use that kind of scrutiny for shaping games in Second Life.

Bejeweled! Oh... wait. Nevermind.

Well, after being inspired by "Dangerous Mines" on the Xbox LIVE arcade, I starting working on mine-sweeper. If this doesn't go the way of some of my other projects, it might be pretty cool.
