I, Ulrika Zugzwang, having recognized that the economic, temporal, and emotional costs associated with my participation in SL have exceeded my family's threshold, swear upon hitting the "Submit Reply" button to walk away from SL (and similar virtual worlds), its forums, and email permanently.

...uhuh.

Now you know why I'm so opposed to self-government in sl.
It can work. It just needs a very strong Judicial Branch to prevent abuses at the hands of democracy. Right now N'burg is essentially functioning as a republic during good times and direct democracy (mob) during bad times. It's not a functioning republic until an unpopular minority can exist in its forums and sim without persecution.

So if you aren't the boss, it's facism?

By the way, you may want to remove your sig, seeing as you made the whole thing up.

I guess some people can't keep their own attention farming drama in their group forum instead of clogging up General...

I don't know what Ulrika did in Nuttyburg, but her reign of terror is not without precedent. I was minding my own business in Mavericks when all the sudden a rain of giant Ulrikas came pelting down on me, taunting me while the Carmina Burana played. I feel for the citizens of Neualtenburg, my heart goes out to you.

Just kidding :) I <3 Ulrika 4 Evar!

It's a great read for those who enjoy my dance-around-merrily-and-then-whack-judo-chop style of posting as well as for those who like watching a political experiment descend into fascism. For the rest of you, there's pie. Enjoy.

"And now, the Democratic response..."

Perhaps you mean, "a fascism finally becoming a political experiment".

You don't get to call it fascism just because you don't get YOUR way; that's the operative definition of a democracy.

I agree. Instead, I used it to represent an authoritarian government with intolerant views or practices. I define your preemptive act of banning me from the sim without cause (and without formalized legal authority) to be both authoritarian and intolerant. Further, I find labeling dissenters as "terrorists" equally as authoritarian and intolerant.

You need to be open to dialog with those who have dissenting views in your forum, otherwise it's just groupthink.

Their minds. :D

Now that I'm a terrorist the only question is, am I cool terrorist like V from V for Vendetta or an uncool terrorist like Salim Abu Aziz from True Lies. If it's all the same to you, I'll pick V. ;)

Remember, remember, the eleventh of April, gunpowder treason and plot. I see no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

Looking at this from the outside it looks remarkably like a 3 year olds tantrum than terrorism. It's like you came back just to tear up your old sand castle cause if you can't play with it, no one else can either.

Does this mean N'Berg has joined the Furries and the Gorries in the triumvirate of SL oppression?

Wah, what a mess!

I've met quite a few of the Neualtenburg folk in the past six months, and just met Sudane less than 24 hours ago; purely serendipitousy.

I've not been formally introduced to Ulrika, though after sharing these forums with her for a while I hope none would be necessary.

One of my first sales ever was a $L 10 teacup at the Neualtenburg Expo back in September or so. (I think it was my *only* sale at the expo :))

If there are ever any peace overtures to be made, I offer the chessboard garden in Caledon II as a neutral, friendly setting for all.

I wish I could help more. I'm a huge fan of everyone who has been involved with Neualtenburg.

*sad*

Don't forget Anshe. ;)

N'burg is OK. It's just operating as a direct democracy (mob rule) in response to my upopular minority opinion instead of lawfully operating as a republic. In its mob-rule state, members are banning people without authorization, failing to moderate personal attacks, and looking the other way at all the transgressions therewith. This is standard practice for groups in SL and doesn't make them bad people. It does mean that there's something really wrong with the government. A good example of this from the thread is captured in this post.

I originally posted to talk folks out of making a change in the Constitution that reduces the power of the Judicial Branch. Because this post is contrary to majority opinion, the government has begun to operate outside of its boundaries as a direct democracy (mob) in retaliation of an unpopular minority view. Not coincidentally it is the Judicial Branch which is failing to keep government members and citizens in line.

Thus, a weakness in the government has led to the label of "terrorist" and my banning from the sim. The best outcome would be for the Judicial Branch to take charge, moderate posts, reverse the sim, and allow dialog. Mob rule is quelched, discussion resumes, we're all good people again. :)

This entire thread has been an illustration of so many violations of forum guidelines that it provides some solid proof that the forum guidelines are not worth the electrons it takes to publish or read them.

That a Linden has apparently been in the thread and not closed it for those violations is more proof.

That a Linden actually moved this to Notices and Well Wishes makes me want to snicker... instead, I just feel bad about it.
