From: Lewis Nerd It's already been shown many times over that stipends are not the problem Not true. Nice try at "matter of factly" trying to slip this in as gospel, when nothing could be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, Vashuda Linden, the foremost expert on the SL economy, clearly stated that stipends are the problem for the linden devaluation. And the fact that stipends constitute $L50 million of the $L59 million in sources being introduced into the economy, to a total of 17 million in sinks last month unmistakebly corroborates her statement. From: Lewis Nerd its people cashing out far beyond the current rate in the hope of a quick sale, and panicking those who don't see it happening - that is losing the value of the L$. This is such an economically amateurish statement. To try to control market forces in an economy is futile. And attempts to do so border on the ridiculous. I do agree that stipends do not have to be the problem, but leaving SL as its currently configured, it is the problem. We can keep the stipends as they are, but without implementing more "sink"type mechanisms, the SL economy will continue to tank.

From: Dhalia Unsung If *I* personally lose my stipends, so be it. If everyone loses their stipends, what do you think that will do to the economy? For the record, I am not in the crowd who claim that all stipends must go. I do believe that premium stipends must stay because otherwise what worth is a premium account. Now if they were to replace premium stipends with another incentive, or perhaps discontinue offering free basic account memberships, then I could see them eliminating premium stipends as well. Either way, basic stipends must go. That's given. No other MMO out there right now gives away free money. For SecondLife to still be doing it, inlight of it's increasing economic problems, is beyond me.

Sorry to interrupt this awesome discussion but I just want to say that this thread has cost the global economy $1,405 in lost productivity due to postings at work and wasted brain power on such redundant and worthless arguments.
