THIS is exactly the problem here Juniper.

1) You don't feel you are doing the things people are complaining about.
2) No one in the other thread mentioned you and said you were one of the people doing these things.
3) You automatically assume "if they're talking about people from the welcome area, they mean ME!"

So before getting taking everything personal and hopping up on your soap box, you might want to consider the possibility that no one was talking about you.

And for the record, the people complaining aren't just "club goers." Infact, I think very few of those complaining are the clubbing types. You might know this if you'd taken the time to read the thread. "reading a few comments and getting a feel for what was said does not qualify as having read it, nor does it give you just cause to start drama over something you haven't even read thoroughly. If and when you do really read the thread, you might note that it's not all about specifically attacking people. People are not complaining just because they are personally too annoyed to visit the WA. They can easily tele away to someplace more pleasant. The complaint is how certain actions in the WA impact SL as a whole.

Yes, lets count all the people you never met in world but neg rated anyway over forums posts. That is called abuse, Sir. Good Day.

I was only talking about one thing in the post...anyways. It seems that the whole point of my posting what I did has been missed. It's okay though I forgive you all really I do.

Maybe if people would stop pushing their idiotic puritan social agenda in an area that should be a pleasant welcoming area (get it Welcome Area) people would offer some respect and take them seriously. Right not the prevailing thought is it would be nice to shove those protest signs where the moon don't shine.

Oh, I can recall a particularly lovely series of posts about how you felt it was right to neg rate not only the use of a security script, and not only the creator of it, but the creator of the builds on the land too.

Not to mention mass-neg-rating by alts...

Our OP
From: Juniper Edelbrock
Greetings everyone.

It has come to my attention of people complaining about the welcome area. I will not even bother to read the posts about it because I get the idea of what people are saying.

The people that choose to hang out in the welcome area choose not to hang out in clubs, please respect that. We do not wish to be apart of the sex clubs, the drama, and everything else that is gross about that. You might say well we enjoy that and if you don't like it to bad. You're are right and with that I choose to be in the welcome area. I am very sick of people coming there once or twice, thinking they complain on the welcome area. We don't go to your clubs and complain about you. We could say that everyone dancing naked is terrible and no one wants to see that. We don't.

I am making a stand for the welcome area regulars. You do not know us, we don't know you. We may seem different, we don't care. You call us negative? Well I'm sure you are not perfect, but I am also sure you don't see us helping new people all the time either. We are not like the majority of people in second life so you bash us? Nice. We have lindens join us constantly! We know many of the Lindens and see them often so stop your complaining already.

UPDATE.... I have read a few of the comments on the welcome area and I stand firm in what I have said. I don't want to read too many because I do not want bad feelings against people. It's all a matter of opinion and here is mine.

People people, let's not forget what we're dealing with here, and not a very good one at that; Our OP

I've been a Welcome Area regular for a year and a half now... I think longer than just about anyone who's posting saying they're a W.A. regular other than Toy (not trying to get superior, just that I've seen it in many incarnations). I still visit often, and see the Weirdorks (Hi Siouxsie), Yashu, Psyra, Waterfallz, Nubiian, and many other regulars. I don't see nearly enough of Kex anymore, but that's another story! :-)

People used to be always friendly in the welcome area. Its still mostly friendly, but the occasional fucktard seems to really sour the area. Just the other day I was there, however, when SL had been slashdotted. I witnessed a repeated, boring, tired action...

A newbie would ask a question.

The same avatar would offer, over and over again, the response: "Control + Q will fix that problem!"

The newbie would be logged out. HA HA. That's so funny. You're so clever. That's almost as funny as "CONTROL+ALT+DELETE" will fix that from the DOS 3.0 days... OVER TWENTY YEARS AGO.

Neg rating in the welcome area is just lame, lame, lame. Newbies might not understand how irrelevant they are. Negs given says more about someone's (lack of) personality more than anything, as has been noted.

People acting like that are problematic. I'm all for freedoms, when they DON'T CURTAIL OTHER PEOPLES' FREEDOMS. Newbies have rights too. One of those freedoms/rights should be able to ease themselves into the community, without being targetted by malicious fucktards.

There has always been something many of us consider somewhat sacrisanct about the Welcome Area through its incarnations - we're all spawned there, we all got our first wide-eyed newbie glimpse of SL there. Back when I started, I was lucky enough to have friendly "hellos!" and offers of help that didn't end in a neg-rate, or a CONTROL+Q, or a blinding bling of particles. The welcome area should show the beauty and freedom of Second Life... not the malicious fucktard side. Let's all try to keep that in mind when we hang there, or the Lindens WILL crack down... why? Because as any marketer will tell you, you NEVER get a second chance to make a good first impression.

Regards,

-Flip

Please point out which of those complaining are club goers. I would like to know what you base this on. Does this mean you have actually read the entire thread now and know who all complained and what they do in SL?

Nolan,

When I made the comment about mentors corrupting newbies, mentors are no longer older players by the way. Just a little info for you. And second you are judging people who you do not know you see our postings and assume that we are awful and immature ect ect. You call us names and yet we are the immature ones? You say it's a waste that we spend our time in the welcome area? What we aren't dancing naked or out having lots of avatar sex and acting normal like you? So that makes us a waste? It's a waste that you are judging without knowing the people. That's the waste. You yourself have been judged many times over in the past with your second life so I don't know how you can say nasty things about us... good day to you too.

Whaaaa? You make my brain hurt.

There are a ton of other things to do besides dancing naked, having av sex, and being "normal" like me. But then, with the fixated, low imagination type behavior you're displaying, I wouldn't expect you to understand that - because this is all about you, and your simplistic indictment of SL, because you are obsessed with sex in SL, and what others choose to do with their free time here.

We don't need morality police, no one is shoving anything down your throat, so stop shoving crap down people's throats at the WA. It's not your stage for making a narrow-minded, junior-high mentality, social commentary.

Now come back with some so-not-clever, shrill, adolescent remarks. I expect nothing less.

I won't be wasting anymore energy or time on you. It's as much of a waste of time as trying to teach a Green Slime Follower to build the Eiffel Tower.

Hehe..well..at least this is entertaining. If there was ever a thread filled with potential Linden "age verification" spot checks, this would be it. :p

And the excitement! The rapier-like wit (less) defense, the classic school yard "Neener, Neener!" comebacks. Yes..this has the makings of a yummy thread indeed.

Please continue your rigthteous crusade for idiocy, irritation, meaness, selfishness and dishonesty Violet, Daniel and Juniper. I makes us all so very proud.... :)

What's wrong with it
06-07-2005 13:28
From: Daniel Luchador
What is wrong with neg rating? Nothing. Get over it.

Ok it's hard to even PRETEND that you don't know what's wrong with the way "you" neg rate.

"please neg rate me, I'm trying to get into the club"

You find it cool to be neg rated and you collect them.. fine.. we don't so don't hand them out, we don't want any.

This whole thread is an illogical mash of "We don't need to make the WA "welcome", and "we neg rate for any reason I choose".

Oddly enough... rating was reserved to give positive rates to those who's behavior you commended and negative rates to those who's behavior you condemn.

Same with the Welcome Area.. designed to welcome newbies.

I'm all for banning people out of it, even if it leaves me out.

Anyway! I was answering someone, and it wasn't you first of all and second second life does give people to do what they want to a point.

In Accordance with this:

So let me get this right, you say you can do anything you want, (which you later changed by saying "to a point";), but then you bag on other people for doing what they want? Just cause you don't like it? Sounds slightly hypocritcal.

When you decide what you are talking about, let us know:)

Well said Flip.

Newbies have rights too. One of those freedoms/rights should be able to ease themselves into the community, without being targetted by malicious fucktards.

So what can we do about it? To bring it up just gets us called "complainers". What can we DO to make the welcome area more welcome and prevent the hostility posed by those who act as if they are not over 18 (shhh we won't tell).

Any ideas? I think we've defined the problem... what's the solution?

Thanks Crow. I really don't want to see the Welcome Area restricted, but its getting ugly when you typically can find 3 or more people in the area with more than 50 negatives given in the past six months.

On to research... interesting...

Checking a profile in world (public information) reveals that Juniper Edelbrock is partnered with Troy Alexander. From the last gang of gobs to invade the Welcome Area, we all know Troy Alexander is friends with Invect Psaltery and Sniv, who should be well known to forum members.

Could it be these are all just the same teenager crying for attention? Hmmm.

At this rate it'll be 5 more pages. Sadly it's about the most interesting thing going on right now. It's like a driving up on an awful crash, and people can't resist watching.

We should thank Juniper for the entertainment, if nothing else.
