To the people at the Welcome Area:

Some of you are ok with me, some not ok. It depends on the combination of people there. Those of you who aren't ok with me know it.

There is obviously nothing wrong with being a "Non-Helper", as you folks so cleverly call yourselves. There's nothing wrong with negging newbies. Oh, and there's obviously nothing wrong with using push guns on people just standing around, or shouting at the one particular person you choose not to like that day, or playing the same sounds over and over. Oh, and there's nothing wrong with swearing all over the place at the Welcome Area. Nothing wrong at all.

I like many of you, those of you who tend to hang out at the Welcome Area. It still *can* be interesting. It's those of you who do the above, and the fact that it's become "commonplace", that I can't stand.

Second Life isn't a video game. lol! Name a single game objective or level system for each resident. Anyhoo that's a whole other thread...anyone who actually knows me in world would never say I take it too seriously. That's just hilarious. Actually, you guys are the ones posting content objections to clubs as a rationale for why to hang out in the welcome area. This is getting rather contradictory.

I'm sad the welcome area is no longer very welcoming as I've been in world long enough to remember when it was. It's as simple as that. If someone offends you, by all means neg rate em. However, it would be nice if some time were spent in the welcome area ....erm....yanno, welcoming.

Are you even paying attention? The only thing being bashed are the idiots who make the WA a hostile place. The WA is supposed to be a welcoming, pleasant area and it isn't thanks to a certain sort of person. The WA itself is something that is respected and admired as an idea -- otherwise people wouldn't care about the electronic feces being smeared all around it.

You obviously didn't read my very first post? I said I've helped many new people. Thanks though. You are getting caught up in the argument to realize what the point of all this is. The point is people do help newer people and if you look at the poll that the lindens have the majority have found the people to be nice and helpful. My point is people shouldn't bash if they do not hang out there regularly, they don't know what happens there all the time. We have alot of fun and also help new people. It's a place with many different kinds of people and at least one place can be and not be the rest of second life. Thanks though.

I would like to be neg-rated as many times as possible in the WA -- and SL for that matter -- for the following three reasons (and maybe more):

-all multiples of L$25 go directly forward, into the system, to the "feed a hungry Linden" fund

-I realize that Star Wars has a light side and a dark side of the Force. So, with all the positive ratings I've gotten, I should at least have an equal and opposite mirror of that. My reasoning is that it will allow me to unlock another "alternate-virtual-reality Torley", and I collect myself like Pokemon+Digimon.

-perhaps most importantly, if someone has a problem with someone else, I'd rather they diffuse that tension by neg-rating me instead of starting up another RRL = Really Redundant Loop. PLUS remember... it goes to feed a hungry Linden!

Remember:

Residents of Second Life are free to rate each other positively or negatively, for any or no reason, at any time. Ratings abuse is certainly possible, but usually involves "group attacks" where a resident influences a number of other residents to give a negative rating for no reason.

One catch: comments can be watermelony, benign, sarcastic, angry, etc. but must be within the CS and ToS.

Stop being dense. I, and others, have stated plainly that we used to hang out in the WA regularly. We left because of the stupidity. You don't get to disqualify people from discussion just because they don't also participate in griefing the WA.

I hang out in welcome because most of the people there aren't high and mighty tight strung chaps with ridiculously absurd ideals like a lot of the people who frequent the forums. I enjoy the people in welcome - they are fun.

Get off your high horse. The WA is night like a crappy laggy night club, it just lacks the crappy laggy night club black box build. It is the same shit, different bag. It is laggy, cliquish and funny of idiots (and no I am not talking about newbies). It is not better than a nightclub, so stop pretneding that is just so you have have some faux feeling of superiority. And I don't go to nightclubs nor am I defending them. Any place in SL once you get more than 10 avies together is just about the same.

I am in the Welcome Area pretty often to talk to newbies about Discovery Hunt. I just leave when the Anti-Sex idiots get on my nerves. I have my limits.

Drama queens? First off I never have ever posted in the forums until people bash the place where I call home.

Um, its not your home. Its the Welcome Area. And we aren't bashing this "place you call home", we're bashing the people that get their kicks from being assholes to other people. You want to be an asshole, buy some land and do it there. Don't shove it down everyone's throat in the Welcome Area, the one place in SL you're guaranteed an audience no matter what time of day it is.

It's funny, when I was a newbie, I found the mentors and such more irritating then the rest of the people at welcome. They all think they have a great cause - helping people learn a video game. Many also feel they must protect people from certain content - as evidenced in these posts.

It's pretty hard to be malicious in a video game, you are taking this a bit too serious.

Demanding that people make allowances for jerkish behavior is ridiculous. If the intent of people that are actually there to help doesn't live up to your standards of worthiness, it doesn't give you the right to counteract it by acting like a jerk and then crying "you take it too seriously, its just a gaaaaaaaaame!"

You can have all the mean spirited fun you want. Just do it on your own land.

Bottom line - welcome has become a favored spot for people with different and possibly conflicting interests to you. SL has a lot of diversity: I'm sure you will find places you feel more "welcome", if you haven't already.

This is how it is in real life too, people's tolerance levels cause most of them to associate mainly with groups they are comfortable in.

Ok...well you need to calm down a bit, because calling it my home is a term of endearment for the welcome area. Chill out and meditate a bit.

Wow, this is veering all over the place and away from my actual point. You're right, SL is diverse and full of some pretty amazing people. People will of course seek out people they are comfortable with. I simply think it's possible to be interesting, have fun, and still welcome newbies. My brother Flip does it all the time *look at that Flip, it's a genuine shoutout* LOL. I couldn't help it. At least, that's how we used to do it back in 1172 back before we had custom animations, and had to walk uphill both directions in the snow to the WA. :D

You are truly sad. You make excuses for everyone's bad behaviour and call other people whiners because they "can't deal" with it. You even had the nerve to call *me* rude when I got on Violet's case about negging newbies.

You -- and your alt, **name edited** -- are the self-congratulatory one. You're ridiculous. This is the Welcome Area we're talking about, and the other people are right -- go be a badass rude motherfucker on your own land.

Most of the WA'ers are not badly behaved - they are abraisive. There is a difference. Abraisive people grow on those who are strong enough to handle it, and they become fun to be around.

I do have an alt, but he is not Van Lehane. I wonder what led you to that conclusion though.

Compelling arguement, if you're twelve. Quit acting like a jerk in the welcome area.
