What the hell do you mean by that, Ingrid? i don't post on these boards so I can get some critical and totally pointless commentary from you every single time. You want me to start doing that to you? And to psychoanalyze you at every turn? I don't think you really want me to start that.

I'm hoping to see Editorial Hare weigh in here. What was the forum reaction to the Hare's debut? How do you compare Blaze's open admission to posting as an alt with the Hare's disclaimer?

I don't recall Ed Hare using the anonymity to cast aspersions at individual residents. Editorial's commentary has never been about taking potshots at other people. Personally though I don't understand people who feel they have to hide behind an alt to speak their mind.

Hello? Where the heck did that come from? It wasn't about you. It's good though, now I can feel sorry for myself and pout a bit because I've been so wrong done by.

Good post Chip! Maybe it's the paparazzi mentality in RL that makes people feel comfortable treating high profile figures like crap in SL? From the comfort of their alts, they can cast aspersions on me, or presume every one of my motives is malevolent or selfish. Maybe people in general assume that it doesn't really hurt us? Or maybe it hurts but we deserve it?

But if *I* were the exclusive target (or Chip, or Cubey, etc) then I would consider that the attacks had some level of legitimacy ("ok fine, Blaze really hates me, I guess we can't please em all";). But what's actually happening is, anybody whose accomplishments bring them into the spotlight is INSTANTLY a target. There is a concerted effort by a sort of SL Fifth Column (SFC?) to spread the word to everybody in the grid that successful players in SL achieved what they did via favors and conspiracy. The message to the general public is loud and clear:

YOU will never make it like THEY did.
Success is already locked up by the chosen few.
You may as well go home.
Don't try.

They don't need a solid foundation upon which to attack their targets. First they lie about you, accusing you of any crime that is in fashion at the time. When the lie is exposed, they suggest you plotted and planned the crime. When THAT lie is exposed, they move right on to suggesting that your forum posts, your very existence incited others to commit the crimes. The bottom line even if you’re right, they will change the argument so that you are wrong.

Honestly, if I had sold *PREEN* and the entire business was out of my hands, do we REALLY think I would have avoided criticism for wanting to recognize and reward people's achievements with the AW Award? Can you imagine any one of the SFC saying "OH, wow... I guess Aimee's motives really ARE genuine." Of COURSE NOT! When you are on the SFC's hit list, the only term of surrender they will accept is for you to shut up and disappear forever.

Ironic isn't it, considering they operate under the assertion that they are "pushing back, challenging" some evil group when they themselves are trying to silence anyone who has made SL more fun for people.

When you comment after my comment (earlier), in such a cryptic fashion, is there any OTHER way to take it? Particularly since you have done it so often before.

And as for this "they" stuff, this SFC group, I don't think they, as you both describe them, are a very large group in the least, and certainly I don't want to be lumped in with them, as I prefer to speak for myself.

As for anybody putting anybody on mute, I would prefer you put ME on mute, Ingrid. That way you wouldn't have to respond to any of my posts with these one-liners and yet I could still keep an eye on you.

Miss Weber,

Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the FIC?

Coco I totally hear ya! You will never see me post "Coco is SFC". I just won't do it. Hope that helps.

I just came back from lunch and I was pondering the motives of the SFC. I noticed one characteristic that is common with SFCers is a strongly voiced hatred of all things Second Life (the technology, the Lindens, the people, etc.) A common question asked of SFC folks is "If you hate SL so much why don't you leave?" The answer is simple, they don't hate SL. They are having the time of their lives.

These folks engage in a sort of Social Griefing. While they don't orbit newbies, or crash sims, it is the same pleasure centers being stimulated when they can sabotage productive discourse or leave a forum in ruins.

It's not surprising that both kinds of griefers (social griefers and the more common physical griefers) may be found together due to the similar nature of their SL goals. The SL Herald for example will never miss the chance to cover a story about either kinds of griefing. At the time of this posting the first story on the SL Herald is about FIC vs. Prok. What is the second story? Mafia massacre at an SL wedding.

There is politics to the game, though, Aimee. And wherever there is politics, there will be various parties disliking what the other parties want, and vice versa.

Well, I love Chosen's Sci-Fi museum, too, but to claim that may be a bit much. :p :D
