From: Guy Linden Maybe you could enclose the whole plot in a huge box and texture the inside walls clear so when people walk inside it seems like they are outside again. Just an idea over just taking it down. This must be what is known as a joke, right? Wouldn't it make more sense to just prevent people entering Burning Life at all? No wait, you've got my creativity rolling here, how about a big sign saying "Beware of Prong"? Or it could be made really, really tiny in homage to LL so you'd have to affirmatively zoom in on it in order to see it? Maybe John Ashcroft's drape to hide the breast of "The Spirit of Justice" is available on eBay? Actually, thanks for reminding me of good ol' John, it makes me want to sing! Everyone feel free to join in! Lyrics to song written and sung by John Ashcroft: Let the eagle soar, Like she’s never soared before. From rocky coast to golden shore, Let the mighty eagle soar. Soar with healing in her wings, As the land beneath her sings: 'Only god, no other kings.' This country’s far too young to die. We’ve still got a lot of climbing to do, And we can make it if we try. Built by toils and struggles God has led us through. Wow I just got all misty and patriotic-like.

From: Dizzy Mandala Can I have your plot?
Seriously, since you are pulling out and all. I'm actually thinking about putting up a small display of Robert Mapplethorpe photographs instead. Or just a note of explanation why my build isn't there. I'm very happy that people have enjoyed my Burning Life build. However, I have little interest in my work being used to promote Burning Life/Second Life, if Linden Labs says one thing about freedom of expression but does another. They could have made all plots PG. They could have put out specific guidelines for builds. They didn't. Like I said before, in most cases I side with LL - forum censorship/banning, griefing builds in residential plots, etc. I perfectly understand the concept that SL is owned by a company. However, I'd be pissed if I were involved in a RL artistic showing sponsored by Pepsi or Nike, and they pulled the same manuever. Its two faced and hypocritical, and its done in the pursuit of using BL as free advertising. At least, that's the only conclusion I can come to until my Hotline post is responded to.

I think it's quite beautiful and would be interested in purchasing a copy, if its made available. We actually have one such fountain at the top of Park Edward VII here in Lisbon. I should get a picture of it, I can't find it on google and it's within walking distance.

As you can see from the attached, Burning Life and even some of the main grid - PG sims no less - is infested with body parts and depictions of sexual conduct. I DEMAND that all of these so-called "creations" be REMOVED immedately! Think of the children!

Enabran, you misunderstood me. It isn't bitterness over missing out on Burning Life (Cory, do I get your plot when you pull out IM plz), it is only amusement that people are going nuts (lol) over a long term SL rule like it was a knee-jerk reaction today. It is a long-running POLICY of LL: no giant dicks in public view NOT EVEN in mature land. The Mature sim rules say explicit stuff has to be out of sight of people flying by. Giant peeing dicks, tasteful though they may be, are explicit. )) It is a nice build and a nice dick, except that it looks like it is peeing on its balls, but it is against the old been-around-the-block rules so LL said "Please follow the rules". No need to start spelling it Amerikkka and acting like the puritans are passing out chastity belts. lol Guy's box idea is a good one. Make it black and Shiny(tm) on the outside and clear on the inside. How in the Giant Stone Dick is that an offensive solution?

In the Burning Life sims, you have allowed someone to make a depiction of our most noble and honorable Command in Chief and President that makes George W. Bush look silly. I bet that the recent changes in game econonmics is just to allow you to make more money to funnel to the TERRORISTS who threaten our LIBERTIES and are contaminating our PRECIOUS BODILY FLUIDS. As our brave and fearless leader has said in Address to a Joint Sesson to the Congress and the American People Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime. Second Life is a hostile regime supporting terrorism!!!!!!!

Once again LL shows it has no clue if any build is asked to change or leave burning life then burning life should be no more....furthermore everyone that owns land should just make a big black box to hide inside with all their phallic symbols before LL outright bans everyone from the game in their final act of stupidity. I suggest everyone that has a build in burning life add a penis to it......my plot will have a penis tonight....maybe even a vagina

First off, I have to admit my interest in this event just took a nosedive and I'm sorry to hear that this build is being singled out when there is so much else in SL that deserves LL's "special" attention. And because I can't find a clearly-stated policy in regards to builds on Mature land (no surprise... I have the hardest time finding stuff on the SL website), might someone point me to the documented guidance to which we can refer? I've read the Community Standards and I see nothing in it - no "POLICY" - that seems to say anything like this: "It is a long-running POLICY of LL: no giant dicks in public view NOT EVEN in mature land. The Mature sim rules say explicit stuff has to be out of sight of people flying by. Giant peeing dicks, tasteful though they may be, are explicit." For ref: http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=Community+StandardsFrom: someone Indecency Second Life is an adult community, but Mature material is not necessarily appropriate in all areas (see Global Standards below). Content, communication, or behavior which involves intense strong language or expletives, nudity or sexual content, the depiction of sex or strong violence, or anything else broadly offensive must be contained within private land in areas rated Mature (M). Names of Residents, objects, places and groups are broadly viewable in Second Life directories and on the Second Life website, and must adhere to PG guidelines. {emphasis mine} Nothing in there afaic, although the "contained within" is pretty vague. What does that really mean? I don't know. Perhaps there is some page on the SL site that delineates in detail what that means and how one applies it (e.g. if visibility from a PG sim is an issue, then what level of clipping is set, what level of video resolution in order to make out the offending visual, aso). Thanks for pointing me toward that guidance as I've not seen anything like it and as a landowner I'm sure it's something I should have reviewed by now. It must be my oversight as I'm trusting that LL would not leave me open to an AR by not publishing these guidelines for my review. [Edit: most recent ToS here: http://secondlife.com/corporate/cs.php - but quote above is current]

Chuck D of Public Enemy on subversion of sexuality in the music (works for all of the arts) of the 60s: "The music spoke to the people, but there was also a society of gatekeepers that would not include the presence of youngsters into adult dialogue and entertainment. Double entendre was the epitome of a songwriter’s skill coupled with wit to keep it away from the kids, while still delivering a popular good"

Burning Life land is not for residential living and is not infinitely owned by residents. I think they will disappear on September 12th or thereabouts. It is for creative/artistic expression, am I correct? I could see why this artistic build may need to be "covered" with a big black box on the main grid where residents live, because residents have some authority on their surroundings. (Apparently) To me, Burning Life is comparable to and seems to be presented like a museum. There isn't a good reason for a person to demand a mature museum to cover up artwork; you simply leave if you are offended. Why can't Burning Life be treated the same way? No one lives there and no one is forced to deal with it.

From: Selador Cellardoor So it appears that 'Mature' now equals 'PG'. What does 'PG' equal? It would equal cartoon characters if they weren't all copyrighted.

Seriously, Grim gave me a copy of her build. If I had a Burning life plot, I would put it out. Just think of all of the censoring fun LL would have if 20 or more people did that?

From: Lecktor Hannibal Linden Lab; Specifically Michael Linden, how in the hell is this exhibit too explicit for a Burning (man) Life MATURE plot ? This is simply ridiculous and marrs the spirit of this great Secondlife tradition; what 3 years running now? I am apalled and oh btw pissed off. LL has been consistently pulling the laces tighter and tighter on the lockstep of our 'freedom, it's your world' brouhaha you feed us into purchasing the premium account. Either have an adult only metaverse or friggin don't for chrissake. Take a look at mine, i'm sure it will set off your explicit alarm as there is lots of blood. PFFFFFFFFT! Unfortunately we live in a society where blood and violence are worshiped but sex and the human body are considered vile and dirty. Makes no sense to me. And I agree - LL needs to crap or get off the pot when it comes to adult content. This is not the teen grid, we are all over 18 and the area is labeled mature. If it's THAT big an issue for so many puritan reisdents why not have an X rated area? Bet that gets lots of traffic. The question then becomes who determines what's G, M or X? Seems even the supreme court has issues with that. Last but not least - your sclupture is awesome Grimalkin. If you are forced to take it down, this will be the last SL burning life I attend - in that, what would be the point when I live so close to Orlando? I can just get in my car and go to Disney if that's the sort of Pablum I want. .

Ok I have seen the penis in question and it is much more tasteful than the pic for some club that was in popular places for ages of a porn actress sucking a glass dildo. You have to actually go out to BL to see the stone penis when this pic was out for everyone to see on a main page for months. You can't just pick one wang to punish and one to ignore in a fair society of any sort.

From: Rose Karuna Unfortunately we live in a society where blood and violence are worshiped but sex and the human body are considered vile and dirty. Makes no sense to me. "The gun is good. The penis is evil. The penis shoots seeds, and makes new life, and poisons the earth with a plague of men, as once it was. But the gun shoots death, and purifies the earth of the filth of brutals. Go forth and kill!" Ahem. T hat said, I would like to also give my admiration of Grimalkin's penis fountain. I would say that the only bad part about it is that the foreskin appears to be on wrong, but who am I to judge?

The following is the sign I am replacing my Burning Life build with. These will be given away free if you would like your own copy. Simply stop by Burning Life 6 or IM me and I will drop you one along with the textures if you want to resize. I will wait to remove my build until I have an answer to the Hotline post I submitted last night. Until then both this sign and my build will remain.

I agree. Michael angelo's david is buck naked with a huge cock, and they dispaly that. Sometimes nudity, sesuality and sexuality are art. The build should stand.
Next they will ban my daedelus needle for being phallic in nature. Not my intention, but that is defitely how it wil be seen.

Nice graphic, Cory, but the headline seems inaccurate. Going by the evidence in this thread, "LL" hasn't told Grim anything; Michael Linden suggested (in conversation, I'm assuming) that the build might be too explicit, and Guy said that if she were asked to remove it, covering it might be another option. Seems like you're making a very large mountain out of a much smaller, penis-shaped mountain.
Show me some evidence that LL has made any statement whatsoever on this build, much less taken action to remove it, and I'll consider joining the protest. Until then, I'll continue channeling my efforts to the "Bigfoot for President" campaign.

And considering that Michael Linden is a representative of Linden Lab and was presumably speaking in an official capacity on behalf of the company, he and the company are interchangeable. I have posted a Hotline thread asking for explanation and clarification of this issue. Until then I have nothing else to base my opinion on other than what Grim has told us about her and Michael Linden's conversation. If LL decides to clear this matter up and I find out that I am mistaken, I will be more than happy to remove my sign and apologize for any harm done. Considering that the hotline post has been up for over 14 hours now with no statement from LL to the contrary, I'm not sure that I am over-reacting.

However, I agree with the majority in that it is artistic expression and when taken in the context of Burning Man, which Burining Life is modeled after - it seems a bit excessive on the censorship front.
