well ok not THAT speechless...I will say this: I love that build! I made me laugh and I had a lot of fun exploring it. Plus I'm very into anything that has to do with WATER.

I'm reallyyyyyy beginning to wonder why LL even bothers with Mature areas anymore.

I mean we are pariahs. Nooo mature land piccys on the front of the SL site. Noooo art with nipples, and nooo giant sculpted stone phalli. I thot we could finally "free our minds and let our bodies follow" now that we kicked all the underagers off to they own grid.

I guess not.

Look out soon for PG only land in SL.

I am terribly disappointed to hear that you're being asked to take it down. It's gorgeous in it's workmanship first of all. Secondly, since you used stone textures rather than flesh, you have to look for a moment to really see the shape of it. I mean it doesn't scream GIANT PHALLUS HERE - it's really tastefully done.

Linden Lab; Specifically Michael Linden, how in the hell is this exhibit too explicit for a Burning (man) Life MATURE plot ? This is simply ridiculous and marrs the spirit of this great Secondlife tradition; what 3 years running now? I am apalled and oh btw pissed off. LL has been consistently pulling the laces tighter and tighter on the lockstep of our 'freedom, it's your world' brouhaha you feed us into purchasing the premium account. Either have an adult only metaverse or friggin don't for chrissake. Take a look at mine, i'm sure it will set off your explicit alarm as there is lots of blood. PFFFFFFFFT!

Please reconsider, Cory. Your build is beautiful! It would be a loss to the entire SL community not to have your artistry on display--you are showing us what CAN be done, what is possible.

While I appreciate the sentiment, I do very much respect Cory's decision and think that it is Linden Lab that needs to do the reconsideration.

Art and free expression often times have to be fought for and even though Cory's build is genuinely magical, one of the ways that an artist can help preserve free expression is by declining to express. As Brace noted above, if one artist is suppressed what keeps it from happening the next time? This is indeed the slippery slope of censorship and LL should maintain the intestinal fortitude to resist the abuse report of one bluenose in the name of genuinely supporting the arts.

I've attached an image from the top of the fountain showing an impromptu gathering of a dozen folk, all of whom thought the fountain to be worthy art. I also did some exploring around Burning Life tonight and found that if LL wants to persist in their censorship that at least 4 more amazing builds would need to be destroyed to maintain "Burning Disney".

I just want to make it clear, so far I’ve not been told to take it down so far. I have been told that it is too explicit and I should disguise it or cover it, like with ivy or maybe he meant a fig leaf. But I just I can’t hang a fig leaf on this. So if the word is I must, I will simple take it down. I will then seriously reconsider if this is where I need to be.

Grimalkin, I loved your build and think it pure crap that you are being asked to remove it.

If LL actually goes through with this, I suggest The Phallus should go on tour, I would be happy to host it in Federal for a week and think the odds pretty strong that others will follow suit. In fact, how about we tour The Phallus through all the Burning Life exhibits? We each host for a day in protest. How many prims do you need?

I'm amused someone thought this display was explicit. I was on this plot last night and didn't even notice the phallus. Should we go tell the person who made the flying cow to put a loincloth on the udders? They're fairly swollen, shiny, and a lovely shade of pink ... *gasp* scandalous.

Naw..blood and killing and violence are fine. Just something natural like the human body is obscene. We are all born naked, yet it's obscene. Violence and bloodshed is entertainment. The remarkable structure of the human body and the act of procreation is obscene. It all makes such sense doesn't it....

This reminds me of the first Burning Life. There was a build there called POG, Penis of Grief. It was obviously a huge penis, but it was enclosed in a Temple and I dont think there was anything negative at all said about it.

Maybe you could enclose the whole plot in a huge box and texture the inside walls clear so when people walk inside it seems like they are outside again. Just an idea over just taking it down.

I find it really disheartening to think that we as a group of supposedly mature adults cannot be exposed to a granite penis because someone decided it is obscene. This is art, the whole purpose of burning life is creativity. To censure Grimalkin's work would be a travesty.

Our puritanical society has been conditioned that the human body is something that should be covered and not discussed. The human body is one of (insert whatever diety you believe in) greatest creations.

I can see if Grimalkin had made it flesh toned and the water white perhaps that would have been pushing the "decency" barrier but even then it's art for goodness sake.

Open for dicussion and intrepretation by everyone. What is art to some is porn to another. Does not mean I would not defend both opinions.

Good job Grimalkin, I applaud you. A thought provoking display, which is exactly one of the reasons for burning life in the first place.

Ah, I remember the POG well; it was especially cool with its sound effects (if you bumped into it, it moaned and grunted!). Tres classy... and hilarious.

Sounds to me like this "censorship" amounted to a few poorly-thought-out words by a single Linden. Not that I mind: my plot is right next to Grim's, and who hates free advertising? I just wish my build were further along .

As for Mt. Schlong, I like it just fine. I have yet to meet a resident who has a problem with it. Most express bewilderment that a blatant penis-build was executed so tastefully. I was tempted to build a complementary granite vulva, but the Awakened Elder Avalocthulhuvara spake unto me demanding a temple to his glory, and so it will be done.

So it appears that 'Mature' now equals 'PG'. What does 'PG' equal?

I understand you're not happy you didn't get a plot, but don't let that bitterness cloud your judgment. This is a perfectly tasteful and reasonable build. There's no reason for it to be altered or hidden from view. We all lose if this is compelled to happen.

I am hoping this is one big crazy misunderstanding like that show Three's Company and that we'll all wake up and find it was a dream in a snowglobe, and have a good chuckle over it.

Don't you people know that we have to sanitize SL so that no one is ever offended by anything? What we're really dealing with is an environment designed to be as cushy as possible towards those with fragile egos and too much time on their hands. This I say from experience.

Hah. This is like that "Hot Coffee" scandal. A game where you murder policemen and no one bats an eyelash, but if there are strippers involved, Hillary Clinton gets all up in arms. This is American culture in action. If SL was based in Europe, you'd have waist-up nudity allowed in PG sims, but bullets wouldn't be allowed to emit blood particles.

I think what SL really needs is for Mature sims to really allow Mature content. Guy Linden's suggestion to put the dong into a structure that's only transparent from the inside does not strike me as being reasonable.
