It's not as bad as you guys are making it out to be. Like I said, I haven't even played yet, and when I heard about this game, I was a little drunk and made my post. We are not out to start trouble with everyone in game and ruin other people's fun for no reason. Everyone in that battle last night was a new guy, first time logging on. Today will be mine. Me personally, I am going after this guy from WWIIOL named Gin666.....

From: someone Originally posted by Tracey Kato BTW, what does "Pwned" mean?? I thought it was a spelling error. It's sorta like leet speak. Or 1337 $p34k. In this case, seeing as how "p" is next to "o" on the keyboard, and so many counter-stirke players would "own" eachother, eventually, saying "pwn" was the leet way to say it, and rather funny too. Unfortunately, I was one of the people who constantly coined the "pwn" term, even before it was popular, and sometimes I wonder if the widespread use of it is purely my fault Get with the times Tracey!! lol

From: someone Originally posted by Tracey Kato BTW, what does "Pwned" mean?? I thought it was a spelling error. It's an FPS (first person shooter) term. It is a spelling mistake, but it's become a sort of cool thing to say among gamers now. It's "Owned", and basically means "had your ass kicked". You just got owned! I owned that guy! This game owns! Etc. edit: yeah, what Dave said.

It's really kind of hard for me to comment as yet as I haven't even been in game, but the very title of 'The Outlands' conjures up post-apocaliptic 'Mad-Max' type images to me, doesn't it to you? Yes, I agree that there seems to be a difference in interpretaion of what the outlands are and what they're for, but are you suggesting that it's your view that is the correct one? You said yourself, when you first started, you didn't want to go anywhere near that place because of the images it conjured up for you, other regular players have mentioned 'Mad-Max'. Might I suggest that the interpretation of what the outlands should be that you are putting forward at this moment is the incorrect one? If it's supposed to be like Mad-Max, where are all the bad-asses? Are a bunch of 'don't care bears' just what the outlands is missing? Other WW2OL players have been in this game for a while now. They are reportedly working together with the dev staff to expand the 'war-like' elements of the game. I dare say if last nights events had been somewhat different, this section of the community would have been a reflection of the other group. Now, all I can tell from the posts here is that this community is in for one hell of a bumpy ride and is going to get picked on mercilessly. I fear that their reaction and any possible repercussions from that action won't be good for it or it's neighbours. From my point of view, I want to see what this game has to offer. I'm not really interested in virtual painting. I like guns and pitting my skill against other dudes. I like creating things and I want to see how my coding skills can be used to build funky gadgets in this virtual world. I want to do this without a police force looking over my shoulder or 'Richard Simmons' asking me to turn my stereo down and then Judging me in front of all his peers. I will not pick a fight with you, but i will fight back, just like my buddies will do. OH, btw, Avondell is a nice guy, if you'd have met under different circumstances, you would agree. (Just don't expect him to like your paintings)

I love Mad Max, and yes, "The Outlands" definitely conjures up images of post apocalyptic wastelands, and I really like that too. When I first checked out The Outlands I guess I was kinda expecting something like that, and got pretty excited by the idea, but upon arrival saw that it obviously wasn't like that at the time.
So I chose a bit of land near to Jean Cook's land, setup my stuff with no real direction at the time, and due to the fairly chilled out feeling the place had then, my building just sort of progressed like that; in a fairly relaxed manner.
But times definitely change.
I've been thinking about it though, and for a while I've wanted to get into some more nitty gritty action in the game. I'd already started work on building a base by the time the stuff happened last night. So, I think that in light of recent activity, I'll probably be falling way more into character for day-to-day Outlands life.
I guess the main reason I reacted the way I did was because it was just such a shock to go from being pretty relaxed and mellow, then to having an army base sprout up next door to me. It was just weird at first, that's all. But it makes sense in a weird way. It's cool though, it's The Outlands. It's ultimately what that area is for. It's what the earlier Second Life website described it as.
So, yeah... It's all good I suppose. More and more people are beginning to show up in The Outlands with the intention of playing out the Mad Max style, so it looks like the area is actually beginning to become more like the way it was initially intended to be.
I'm cool with that. People are right, it's pretty silly to try and defend the idea of maintaining something like an art gallery in a place like that. So now I'm just gonna have some fun with it and get more into the Outlands mindset. I just hope we can all enjoy whatever happens there and not take ourselves too seriously in the future.

We are both wargamers and n00bs (newbies, new at this game) and I think some of you are having a hard time with both. First, we are wargamers, but we are also gamers. We have respect for other players in a game...as much as they show us, anyways. You might not understand our style of play...no problem there. This seems to be a kind of crossover game...lots of different types of gamers here. But we still care about things like the integrity of the game...IE we dont condone...at all...cheaters or hackers. We expect people to play within the design and rules of the game. Second, we are n00bs. I think most of us, being wargamers and n00bs, assumed that the R-rated Outlands area was a free fire zone. Thats why we went there. Thats why we DIDNT set up camp in another area...we arent griefers, we went to the area we thought was appropriate for our style of play. We expected to find like-minded people there. What we found instead is a bunch of people with a far different idea of what the Outlands should be. Look, for the most part we arent going to run around in SL and shoot innocents for no reason. We didnt do that last night in the 5+ hours we spent buying guns and flying around looking for land. We arent looking for bitter, hateful wars. We just want to have some fun firefights, like last night. I dont want to force anyone to fight a war they dont want to fight, and I bet most of the other guys feel that way too. A lot of the guys have been joking around and teasing you, but seriously...actions, not words. Watch what we do. Virtually every one of the WW2OLers in the fight last night were in the game for the first time. Yesterday was my first day and I had a lot of fun. Give us a chance....in peace or war, we can be a fun bunch Avondell

i just want to say that i have been watching/participating in this thread the whole day, and this is a damn fine post. i quoted it so everyone could read it twice. (i.e. this is the one that best answers the questioned i posed way up in the beginning of the thread.) I was totally enjoying building our base till the firefight broke out. Now the base is in shambles and theres no telling how it'll get rebuilt. Hopefully there will be enought time to sort things out so it looks pretty, but I have the feeling we wont get a chance. =P

From: someone What we found instead is a bunch of people with a far different idea of what the Outlands should be. Although appearances might be so, I doubt this is 100% true. As stated, with land so scarce some built there just because land was inexpensive & plentiful (and yes, pretty when it was less full). Given a choice (ie MORE LAND) I doubt many of the current outlands residents would have set home there. The more "preaceful" players that set up there, the more came. I think we all know what the true intentions of the outlands were/are but we all want to create and we all need a place to do it. SO, can we all try to live together in some sort of harmony? I understand the Valens are also war gamers. I know they have found harmony with existing outlands residents. Please take a break from this thread and go read the developer journal. If the world grows in the way outlined there, there will eventually be plently of room for everyone to do their thing. Its BETA and evolving. Lets work together to make this "game" work for everyone.

As leader of the WWIIOLers...i can assure you guys that there wont be ANY killing of people who dont want to be killed. going more deeply into this, I mean that people can just keep on living like they do, i mean we're just another group that moved in where we could (land was very scarce) and made an AB like in the game we came from. belive me when i say, that ill MAKE SURE that no innocents are killed, property damaged or anything like that. on the other hand you have to admit that it was fun lastnight I hope that today we can not fight, and maybe get our bunker done and you guys could come see it?

I'm sure it going to be hard for me NOT to shoot my gun as soon as I get in game. I just hope people will not take my working the kinks out as aggression. See ya'll in two hours!

Guano, land is pretty scarce where we are. I think what'll probably happen is we'll use that for a base and build our own houses (if you want) somewhere else. We are all contributing money to Shnitzel to do the construction and get the bunker built for now.

This may be the kind of stress test in beta the developers need. BTW, why do I have to login everytime I post?
