Im Part of the WWIIOL group.
We are all OK guys.
I wasnt there for the initial gun fights.
But If we called deeblue 'RSimmons' or other such verbal crap Before OR after the fight then we should be ashamed.
Don't let this get out of control. Play nice.

From: someone Originally posted by Avondell Jones I'll give you that, Deeblue. We responded to you because of the way you interacted with us. You said a few hostile things yourself.
First off, I didn't start out acting hostile. I was acting protectively over the stuff I've spent a lot of time and money in-game to build. "Please don't have wars inside my house" is a fairly simple request. All it would have taken there and then was for your leader or whoever to say "ok, sounds good." and there would have been no more issues from me. This is pretty stupid and I'm not gonna go back and forth about it. I know exactly how I started the conversation, I know exactly the questions I asked, and I know exactly how I was responded to in general. Even after receiving a bad response from you all, I still said "Well, good luck with the base." and went about my business. I don't really care if you go around shooting things up, or want to have wars with other in-game clans, or whatever. Hell I'm working on my own weapons and I love a bit of action in the games I play. After one of your group members put up the stupid Richard Simmons thing directly above my place, that's when I fought back. I'm not gonna bother with the "my object over your land" bullsh*t cause that just gets too stupid too quickly, and we all end up with giant useless crap stuck on our buildings. The sign was your deal, you made the first move. Like I said before, you guys are obviously here for a common purpose, so I had no qualms about defending myself with a few shots in your direction. Lastly, I don't hate anyone. I simply don't have the time for it. I didn't lose any sleep over the nonsense that happened last night. Just another day in Second Life, albeit a very loud and laggy one.

I wasn't there period but I'm ashamed our group acted in such a childish manner.
Atleast we can fight with guns here but we still need to ask before fightng. Oooo guys let's make a combat arena so we can move it all to there. It'll be in the bunker.

Should be interesting
04-17-2003 09:12
Im IN. This should be a very interesting situation. I'd like to see how this pans out, especially with regard to the comments stating that this group will have a hard time flourishing with the lack of co-operation from the established simmers. Dee, would you have gone up to a bunch of Camo dressed, Gun toting, Army Base building bad-asses IRL that had just set up next door to you and said the things you said? If you had, would you have expected any different response? If this community does find itself on the edge, fighting for survival, you can guarentee one thing, they WILL fight to survive. Whatever that pans out too should be VERY interesting indeed for the game. Does this game have an established 'underworld' yet? Does extortion, blackmail and robbery already exist? Is there a 'police force' or is it just pure anarchy? I've not had a chance to play yet, so I guess i'll figure out these things as i go along. Look forward to interacting with all of you.

at the moment it is the best form of anarchy (or maybe it just appears like this because i am a bit of a hermit) where anyone can do anything they want, and most people tend to respect others and cause undue stress and harm.
we have talked about police before. Do a search for jail and read about it, it is pretty interesting.
as to bad reputation... well i am not sure it would even have come to that if this thread hadn't been started. It seems to me like a mildly trivial event that has gained some serious momentum. Cool off, and adjust, no reason to get all cold and prickly.

In real life a military group of assasins and fighters wouldn't construct their base next door to an art gallery or near to residential buildings. And in real life, people wouldn't build art galleries or houses in a place like The Outlands. Hehe.. so attempting to make any comparison to real life is entirely silly at this point. Anyway... If in real life gun-toting militant badasses were suddenly constructing huge army bases, I'm pretty sure there'd be larger issues at hand to worry about. And yes.. if it comes to it, I will definitely fight to survive. If it gets to that point, then I'm ALL for the Mad Max style shit, haha.

You guys asked a question: From: someone why would anyone move to the outlands and not want any gun fights next store? I provided an answer based on SL history. From: someone In a society of no laws, and when we WIIOLers are murderous freaks who care for nothing but world domination , do you think we care that you don't? The second poster may not have cared but the question WAS posed. Land is hard to come by and people set up where they can. From: someone Seriously, we didnt spawn in guns blazing. Re-read my post. We didnt come in trying to make enemies Huh? Are you two in the same group? You guys are sending mixed messages.

There is no army base next your art gallery, not even 100 miles away, actually, it doesn't exist.

Deeblue, you have a nice house and you are probably a very nice guy.
But I just offered you an olive branch and you slapped it down. I dont know what to say now. How can you think you occupy the high moral ground now? I offered you a truce and you ignored me.
I'm not in the least bit ashamed of the WW2OLers...maybe thats because I was actually there the entire time and saw what happened. We were pre-emptively attacked by a group of more experienced, better armed players and we fought them off.
Thats not something I'm going to be ashamed of.

i come over to your "army base" after hearing about you all "forming an army" to have "war" in the Outlands with.
Anyways, I stop by and ask what is being built, sure I had my guns out, normal for Outlands. Than I'm told by some of your "members" to, "Blow it out my rear" or something very similar and than I'm asked, "Why the hell do people keep asking us that?"
Why? Many of the people who live in the Outlands have been there for quiet a while, and have formed a PEACEFUL community, now we have a group of "Lackies" coming in and setting up a MILITARY BASE in the middle of "VIABLE" Structures. I really don't mind the fact that you all want to have a military base, but keep in mind the other buildings that are around where you build. Maybe people want to have an actual house not around something "violent"?
Keep this in consideration WWIIOLers or whatever your name is, the people you are killing in the outlands have many more friends than you have members. There have been events already where people have had buildings removed after protesting.
Burning bridges is not good my friends.

See? Now dont you think its that sort of attitude that contributed just a little bit to the firefight last night? I was serious.
Peace or war, I dont really care either way. It seemed like you wanted peace and thats why I offered it...but apparently I was wrong.

Why I moved to the Outlands
04-17-2003 10:45
I moved to the Outlands back in December. At that time there was only ONE other person living there, who has since left SL. I moved there for two reasons; 1) I was st00pid and didn't fully understand what could happen, and 2) it was pretty and quiet. I still love my cove on the water and I guess I'm lucky to be ont the other side of the mountain from you guys.
I wasn't anywhere near the fight you guys are talking about, however, I am ashamed that us "old timers" treated you like what I hear. We are getting very limited in room, we are being squeezed closer to each other every day. There hasn't been a sim added for the general public use since I joined, when we had like 2,000 members. We now have over 5,000! If part of the Beta test is to test the stress level of the residents, then they have succeded.
Both sides of this need to take a step back and look at what is going on before ruining the SL experience for a lot of other users. You are all acting like a bunch of grade school kids, pointing the finger and blaming it on the other guy! Why don't you all sit down tonight over milk and cookies and discuss how to get along.

LOL!
04-17-2003 10:53
Whoa I haven't even played yet. I just heard about this game last night and it sounded funny. I was teasing about the fact of an extortion racket and I look at this thread today and I had no idea there would be so many responses! Oh well, I look forward to my first day. Sounds like a fun game. Where do I pick up my camo fatigues?

I didn't wanna reply to this thread, because the initial post was the kind of thing I thought I got away from as I decided to join the SL community (Not having to see the word "pwned" in a thread topic was rather refreshing to me). So instead I'm going to get on the topic of what seems to be the real problem here. Lindens! Listen up! It seems as though a few people have some separate interpretations of what being in the Outlands really means. I'm sure you guys already have some sim-configurations set up for this kind of craziness, but if you don't, I suggest you start now! On a personal note, when I first joined and heard about the Outlands, I thought "Oh, pshaw, if the place is "Anything goes", count me out. I don't feel like having to deal with crazy people". It's really too bad nobody else shared this feeling, or else nobody would be complaining about the semi-greifing occuring out there

Dave, when I first started I felt the same as you. Problem is land has become more and more scarce. I found I HAD to buy out there if I wanted to create something of any real size. Another plus is there was lot of really cool established players that called the outlands home.
I agree something needs to be done. My answer is hurry up and release stale land and/ or get some sims online where people can build. Another Outlands sim would be cool, then these armies can buy it up and have a field day.
I'm not into restricting other people play. I'd just hope other players felt the same. By the reply I got it doesn't seem so. PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong. And if I am wrong I have to wonder why some members of this new group are sounding so while others aren't.

Perhaps a bit later on there'll be a "No Man's Land" or "Wasteland" added which is a high performance (ala Rizal) server designed PURELY for the purpose of battling. Then the rule can be plain and simple: If you're there, expect to be killed at a moment's notice for no reason other than the fact that you're there. When I first joined and setup camp in the Outlands, it just seemed like a kinda mysterious place that the general populous might be a bit aprehensive about due to the ability to die there. Seemed like a more quiet, less laggy area where I could build my stuff without having to endure the lag in places like Natoma. I also liked the fact that it was a mature area. I guess at first I just didn't immediately associate "mature area it's possible to die in" with "area you are an idiot for even attempting to build a non-aggressive building in".

I am just so sad to see our community coming to this. Wars with your neighbors. Its not at all SL-like. What happened to the day when there were 20 people online holding makeshift events and giving away complex scripts for free? I miss the good old days of Closed Beta.
Also, I agree with those who say we need more space. We are cramped and we are getting cranky. Save us, Lindens!

From: someone I am just so sad to see our community coming to this. Wars with your neighbors. Its not at all SL-like. I always thought SL was a place to do "what you wanted" as long as you followed community standards, and the outlands meant to say "here, there are no community standards, just don't mess up our performance via lag/sim-crashing please". So really, if you want to make war with everybody, the only place you can do it right now is in the Outlands... as long as you don't fark the servers. From: someone What happened to the day when there were 20 people online holding makeshift events and giving away complex scripts for free? I miss the good old days of Closed Beta. I still do this... and I know many others do too. I dunno, I kinda started expecting the worst as soon as SL went open/live, and I think what we see here is "mild flavor" compared to the "jalepeno flames" that will most likely come later.
