I would have been pissed too.

Looks like we're seeing a clear failure in how the policing is being administered.

Policing should be:
- public (like it is in the paper)
- reasoned
- reliable

It seems this isn't happening.

If it's not 100% public and transparent then there are always going to be questions. A Linden should be stating where this bad language report came from.

It's also not reasoned. I think harasment is worse than verbal abuse but we hear nothing about the first guy (see point one. Was he banned? Told off? No idea) and only about poor old Aces who said a naughty word. Sometimes the spirit of the law is more important than the letter of the law.

And from the reports it doesn't seem the policing is reliable. That just is training and agreeing on the kind of standards the Lindens want.

Well the Lindens get chat logs and screenshots usually when a report is filed...

Also what was the "griefer" doing that bothered you so bad Aces? I think I missed that part..

They did catch her doing this before in Jan. I would imagine they believed she was capable of and had very likely done it again would be reason enough for a banning. They took the other person's report of this. In SL It appears that 3 strikes aren't required to be out , but only 2 is enough.

I do not know Aces or this other person so I'm not taking sides. LL's decision seems logical.

I am not worried about it now, and I am not trying to upset you or go against you, but I have expierenced first hand what it is like when you are angry... and to be honest.. I was ready to leave SL cus I thought everyone was that mean... Typical red head, short tempered hehe.

Repetitive, flagrant disregard for other's peace would be grounds for punitive measures. Bleeping every once in a while shouldn't be. If terms of decency are to be based on G rating standards, then that should be spelled out. PG means parental guidance, which means that not everything will be peaches and cream, and it is up to a parent to exercise judgement and careful consideration. To me, in SL, we are all adults by Linden Law, thus we should be the ones to exercise judgement and consideration of what happens around us. In the case that a situation escalates beyond our, that is the citizens', control, then the Linden folk need be brought in. Up to that point it is our responsibility as intelligent, presumably mature folk to handle most situations ourselves. Especially since the Law is enforced by a handful of people for a few thousand citizens.

My suggestion is that if a situation escalates like that, press Ctrl+Shift+A and record it while being as pleasant as possible. Then get a copy to the Linden's to support your case. In the meantime, turn the other cheek and as you're being pummeled, think of ways to fix what seems to be an inefficient system.

So the forum mob decided to attack, once again with out knowing the full story... how lovely.... I really hope the Lindens get paid extremley well... *sighs*

You know that the discussion is being fairly heated by the point a thread is locked and then we are encouraged to go IW and IM who we are having conflict with. What is the point if "suspension" is hanging over our heads.

I too was banned for three days today for "assault". It said I violated the TOS in Briarcliff Manor on November 25'th (Thanksgiving) even though I was in NYC and away from my computer that day....

I highly doubt he got off scott-free, but we'll never know unless he tells us, as the results of abuse reports are confidential.
