Just curious -- for those of you who aren't using your real name in SL, how/why did you come up with your name?

I'll go first. Shebang is actually just the phonetic pronunciation of #! (both characters together) -- which is why I sign my posts here #! and why you might've seen a couple of folks in world call me #!. Perl scripts all begin with #!path_to_perl (or #!perl on windows systems), and since I write a little perl.... There's also a second reason behind my choosing Shebang. It's a play on my love of "bubblegum" music. <singing> "Shebang, shebang! yadda da da da da da da DA! Shebang, shebang!" </singing>

Just in case anyone was wondering, no, it is NOT a sexual reference.

And I chose Sunshine as my last name because (a) it sounded good with Shebang, and (b) it made me think "sunny disposition" which I strive to maintain at all times.

OK....maybe just a few minutes, but after coming up with zip, I decided to use my real name. Nobody ever said I had much imagination...........

The first attempt really didn't work out well. My first son will be named Xavier Christian <Insert my last name here>.

I got the name 'Datura' from a Tori Amos song. As for Datura itself, it's a kind of flower, a really nasty poisonous hallucinogenic flower. I have never ever eaten it (or ingested it otherwise) and anyone who I have spoken to who knows about it has warned very strongly against it. That said, it was used in various shamanic and magical rituals around the americas... the experience is said to be something like a waking dream.
I thought both the sound of the word as well as the connotations were interesting for a nickname, and it's not a commonly used one.
As for Fairchild, I just liked it.

Kerstin is my real name, but a number of people have asked me about it, thinking I made it up. So I'm posting to let people know that it really really really is my first name in r/l

I live in Cambridge. The surname Fats inspired me to choose Cambridge for my first name, though, as in Minnesota Fats and stuff. Though I'm hardly as good at pool as he was.

Soulace is a name I have carried with me through many travels I have had in the online gaming starting as far back a The Realm.. ( wonders if anyone here remembers that game) The name Soulace is as much a part of me now as my true rl life name hehe

i use bUTTONpUSHER as my quake3 and half-life name because i sometimes purposely or unpurposely annoy people(although i'm pretty friendly in SL). also, it described my last job position- mouse buttons, phone buttons, computer keys, they are all buttons of a sort - and i spent my days pushing them.

hehehe - For all intents and purposes, BBC is my "real" name - at least that is all anyone save my family ever calls me anymore. Once, about 4 years ago, a friend postulated that "BuhBuhcc" would be the proper pronunciation, but that sounded dumb, so BuhBuhCuh was chosen for symmetry's sake. Because it is a bit unusual, I get to be the only buhbuhcuh out there, and if you notice a buhbuhcuh anywhere else on the internet, it is me.

My name means nothing, literally.

i.e. for non-spanish speakers, "nada" means "nothing" in said romance language.

Well heres my story,

I actually thought of something else at first, but it wouldn't let me have it. I don't remember what it was or why I couldn't have it.

But as some have seen my imagination needs no time at all before it takes off fast. So I scrolled through the last names and saw Omega. Well the first thing that poped up in my mind was it sounded military. So right away Charlie came out lol. As I love watchin Vietnam war movies, that association came to me fast.

So in a nut shell, to me it sounded like a military code name.

Well, I chose Curie out of the list and then thought it would be funny to have Marie as a first name like the real Marie Curie. I see all of these neat names in world so now, in retrospect, I realize I should have given mine a little more thought. Thinking mine is kind of dumb but I'm stuck...lol

Soulace, I remember The Realm! I even played it as recently as a couple of years ago.

Marie that is soo cool, I really never thought anyone here would even know what I was talking about hehehe.. could I ask what your "Realm" name was? would be cool if we knew each other there hehe.. Will give yah a hint as to mine.. If you played it from way back in its beta stage and about 3 yrs in.. I was a very well known MW (Middle Woman) and also known for being great at enchanting.. ( Note.. The name Soulace was a different character than the one I am speaking of now ) .

Once upon a time, long ago, and in a far away land, I looked in the dictionary. And under phoenix, found "feniks", which is the fonetik spelling of phoenix. Like the bird, my life seems to consume itself in fire, oh say about once every 500 years, and then I find myself rising from the ashes once again.

I am "feniks" in very many different places in life so maybe this is really my real name.

I've had the nickname Steller for many years now and its grown on me, almost as familiar as my iRL name. Even some friends and relatives call me Steller. When I first picked it I didn't think it meant anything but came to know it is al alternative spelling to stell"a" r.

Ive also come to know there are also the Steller seals and the Steller Blue Jays.

I like the symmetry of the spelling of Steller. =0)

When I first talked to Linden and was completing my installation I was quite surprised by having to pick a last name. (the process was a bit different from now) I thought OH NO I want to just be Steller. But with a quick thumb through Sunshine seemed to complete the sound and shape well.

I needed a name for EQ...(yes i was an addict ...so i went through the Tolkein Dictionary for help....I wanted an indiana jones type character so I chose two words...Valor (gold or treasure) and Faroth (Hunter)...Treasure Hunter ....that's the name i've put the most effort into and it's original so I kept it....it's my permanent online name

LOL, I can't remember my character's name. I started one over the last time I played, a couple of years ago, but I do remember one I played from way back (go figure). Her name was Cashew. Now you want to do the name game here... I was having trouble coming up with a name and had a can of Cashews sitting on my computer desk...

If I can't remember my own name, I don't think I'd remember yours. LOL! I too, enchanted items but almost hated to do it because I'd feel soooo bad when I destroyed someone else's weapon or armor. My favorite activity when I was "bored" was leaving my house open and catching thieves.

hehe I don't recall....I had to get out while i could....I had done everything I had ever wanted to do and didn't want to wait around for more things to come along....(ie PoP hehe)

alas I feel a new addiction is just around the corner....the game i've been waiting a year and a half for (maybe more?)....Star Wars Galaxies....oh boy
