I'd say "the obvious conclusion is to make it official that it is okay for all premium accounts to buy First Land so they then have an enforcable rule and tension within the community would dissipate", but I'm sure someone would set me on fire for even suggesting such a thing. ;)

Ya think? I mean, only one?

The difference would be that I KNOW not to take a paper from a blind man.

I don't take candy from babies either. Or set marmosets on fire.

Coco,
I'm not going to debate you on this any further. I've already expressed my sadness over this matter.

I think we should make it an issue from this point on. I would like to thank Coco for bringing this issue to the forefront.

Please do not buy First Land, if you are or any of your alts have already purchased Land. Please allow all new Land owners to have the opportunity to make this inexpensive purchase and enjoy Land ownership.

Let's now move forward from this issue and work together to educate others.

The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better?
Yes, it's true, I have a blog now!

Well actually an angry mob with pitchforks and torches, and possibly some haystacks to make sure I burn good, nothings worse than hearing someone you're burning scream and scream and scream because the fire doesn't burn hot enough, yanno?

To be fair, it IS the only logical way to put an end to the problem. :p Even if many people wouldn't like the solution.

Or how about, Lindens, kindly release enough first land to take care of all premium accounts.

Supply is not infinite. Human desire is.

I don't think this is a fair solution. It hurts those who are truly First Land buyers because anyone with an alt who has bought First Land before has savvy that a true First Land buyer would not have.

It hurts people who are trying to sell a 512 plot at a reasonable price because the person buying First Land with an alt would be less likely to buy non First Land.

We, as a community, can work together to try to make sure there are plenty of First Land for new Land buyers by not taking advantage of this situation. As we all know, owning land is one of the coolest things in SL. A new person can not really experience the fullness of SL without owning land. If someone new can easily come in, find land and buy it inexpensively, they are more likely to stay.

If we all used alts to buy First Land, there would be a shortage and we can't expect LL to compensate for all of our alts having First Land, just so we can get a bargain.

Well, you also now KNOW how the Lindens feel about it, which you stated was important to you - that it is intended for new users only who have never owned land.

Coco, would this be fair? It would mean less people buying land from people who wish to sell. It would create a sort of welfare system. First Land is meant as a First Experience into Landowning, not as a way of life.

Indeed. And it would probably also lead to the end of the First Land program. :(

May I interupt for just a moment, please, for a little clarification? It's been a long time since I've read a report on land ownership numbers. The last I heard it was around 15%. Is that still pretty accurate? I wonder what the number would be if one were to remove the number of alts; you know, the ones created to fill out a group and all. That quantity is not available but how about the statistics on First Landers, has that ever been reported? Like, how many of these people stay on as land owners after 1-3 months? I wonder how many genuine First Landers (not alts) do the math and see going a premium for a month as a good way to make several thousand dollars and consider the $10 well spent.

My apologies again for interjecting here but a lot of things that have been on my mind throughout the threads on this issue kind of came together with the first line that I quote here. Okay then, ignore and proceed as usual. Thanks for the moment.
