The first part of this is at the same time frightening and funny. http://news.bbc.co.uk/nolavconsole/ukfs_news/hi/bb_rm_fs.stm?news=1&bbram=1&bbwm=1&nbram=1&nbwm=1&nol_storyid=5187630&checkedBandwidth=bb&checkedMedia=ram&subtitles=hide&alreadySeen=1Bush is either deliberately ignoring what Blair says, or is actually failing to grasp it. As this goes on, Blair becomes more and more British, using the expression 'as it were' more than once, and stuttering like the Duke of Edinburgh. Then Bush pops something into his mouth and comes out with a remark of unbelievable stupidity, which leaves Blair clearly gobsmacked. You can almost see the thought bubbles. Strangely enough, the thing it reminded me of most strongly was Jeeves and Wooster.

Bush is a complete moron, as it were. Every time he opens his mouth in public I cringe in embarassment.

"TAN: Mr Bush was caught saying that a key to defusing the Middle East crisis was for "Hizbollah to stop doing this s**t". "What they need to do is get Syria to get Hizbollah to stop doing this s**t, and it’s over," Bush told British Prime Minister Tony Blair at a leaders’ lunch at the Group of Eight industrial countries gathering here. The President was on camera but apparently unaware that his words were being captured by a microphone."
"FDL: While munching on a roll, George Bush had a conversation with Tony Blair about Hizbollah cutting out their "shit." So much for that born-again veneer…this deciderating and Presidenting is hard work. (And the fact that the curtain gets lifted from the "moral majority" act for public consumption is just a side bonus, I suppose, since neither Bush nor Blair knew the microphone was on..." http://www.crooksandliars.com/posts/2006/07/17/bush-unplugged-at-the-g8-over-middle-east-conflict/
quicktime and wmv's over at: http://www.crooksandliars.com/
"Given the relative opacity of Bush’s thoughts on the situation, the frank discussion offered a fair amount of insight and a couple nuggets of news, including that he was going to send Condi to the region (or possibly the UN — but she’s going somewhere to deal with this), that he blamed neither Israel nor Lebanon for the violence, and that "the irony is what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit and it’s over." That’s a big deal: Bush believes it within the Syrian government’s power to calm the conflict. Theoretically, that should have major implications for American diplomacy and, possibly, policy..." http://ezraklein.typepad.com/blog/2006/07/things_that_mak.html
syria? weren't they once one of the members of the metal band 'axis of evil'?
meanwhile, sure must be good distraction for the administration.

At least now people know what they really got when they voted for Dictator George.

From: Magnum Serpentine At least now people know what they really got when they voted for Dictator George. Generally, you tend to find that Dictator types are actually halfway competent human beings. I'd suggest you find another insult more befitting. Just 'that fuckhead' will do, if you can't think of anything.

Y'know, I blogged about this, inserting the by-now-traditional note of snark, but now I almost wish I hadn't.
Yes, he's a fuckwit. Yes, it's appalling and genuinely disturbing to hear (once again) such macho posturing from the de facto leader of the free world.
But then I thought: isn't it rather sad that a clip like this is going to get so much attention (including mine), possibly at the expense of more sober attention being paid to the actual issues?
I dunno. Either way; it's a dismal, grotty little moment to set against the bleak and desperate situation faced by the people in the Middle East.

From: Uma Bauhaus Is there a transcript available. I can't get video. :/ In all it's glory: Transcript of it from MSNBC....E-Mail it to everyone....How our Emperor talks to other world leaders.... Transcript: Bush's candid comments Not realizing his remarks were being picked up by a microphone, President Bush bluntly expressed his frustration with Hezbollah, and his preference for diet Coke during the G-8 summit in St. Petersburg. Read a transcript of his comments: Bush to Putin: I gotta leave by 2:15. They want me out of town so they can free up your security forces. No, just going to make it up. I'm not going to talk too long like the rest of them. Some of these guys talk too long. Gotta go home. Got something to do tonight. How about you? Where are you going home? This is your neighborhood doesn't take you long to get home. You eight hours? Me too. Russia’s a big country and you’re a big country. Takes him eight hours to fly home. Not Coke, diet Coke. Russia’s big and so is China. Yo, Blair. What are you doing? Are you leaving? Blair: No, not yet. On this trade thing… Bush: Yeah, I told that to (inaudible). If you want me to. I just want some movement. Yesterday I didn't see much movement. The desire to move. Blair: It may be that it’s impossible. Bush: I'll be glad to say. Who's introducing me? Blair: Angela Bush: Well tell her to call on it. Well, tell her to put me on the spot. Thanks for the sweater; it was awfully thoughtful of you. I know you picked it out yourself. Blair: Oh, absolutely! What about Kofi Annan? I don't like the sequence of it. His attitude is basically cease-fire and everything else happens. I think the thing that is really difficult is you can’t stop this unless you get this international presence agreed. Bush: She's going. I think Condi's going to go pretty soon. Blair: Well that's all that matters. If you see, it will take some time to get out of there. But at least it gives people… Bush: It's a process I agree. I told her your offer too. Blair: Well it's only…or if she's gonna or if she needs the ground prepared as it were. See if she goes out, she's got to succeed as it were, where as I can just go out and talk. Bush: See the irony is what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this s--- and it's over. Blair: Because I think this is all part of the same thing. What does he think? He thinks if Lebanon turns out fine, if he gets a solution in Israel and Palestine, Iraq goes in the right way, he's done it. That's what this whole things about. It's the same with Iran. Bush: I felt like telling Kofi to get on the phone with Assad and make something happen. We're not blaming Israel and we're not blaming the Lebanese government.

I finally saw the video and it's even worse. I don't know what I was more saddened by, that he talked over another world leader several times while that leader was trying to make an important point; that his statements were nonsensical and demonstrated a lack of understanding; that he was talking through a mouthful of food; or that he doesn't know what the word "irony" means. The expletive didn't even make my list. What a fool.

he was right and wrong in the same statement, if that makes sense. The meaning of what he is saying is correct, but how he said it was moronic.
