I loved time outs. It gave me more time to think about my fantasy life of being Scott Baio's girlfriend. (yah I know, sad. lol) The Inquisition from my father was far far worse. I also recall my mom trying, ineffectually, to swat me with a fly swatter a couple of times, which was just kinda funny and had no effect whatsoever. As for the empathy thing, maybe the Inquisition didn't work because I naturally possessed empathy, but maybe it worked because it made me DEVELOP empathy. The whole step of putting oneself in the shoes of the offended seemed to increase my empathy over time. By the time I was 17 (and my earliest Inquisition memory was from age 6 over stolen M and Ms) I could anticipate what the questions would be and in what order, saving dad a lot of trouble! From: Mulch Ennui Time outs can be VERY effective probably the most effective punishment ... If if... the child is 11 years old or older that age, standing with your nose to the corner is a fate worse than a spanking even more effective when they are sugar buzzed with a friend over to witness the corner event one time in the corner in front of a friend at that age and i assure you all you need to do is look at a corner when they get out of line and they will instantly behave

Ooh! Omg I think I need to go to therapy!!! (coz I liked it!) lol Does not getting spankings as a child give one a perverse desire to get them later? From: Eggy Lippmann *spanks Perse*
