Yea, we need to wait until the last last resort, which comes when we have a Democrat president! Also, we should start giving the people of the world lollipops for free so they will like us.

Yes, we must start teaching our children that America isn't a good country. There are all kinds of better countries in the world, so we shouldn't think we're anything special. It's not like people in every country around the world consider their country and their culture to be superior to everyone else's. Only evil America does that!

How's that "good and evil" fairytale outlook of the world workin' for you?

I assume this Alby person is someone the lefties here have already come up with reasons to dismiss, so now you're going to pretend that I'm him, no matter how completely wrong you are. Typical lefty.

Maybe you should stop replying to me if I'm such a troll. Oh no, you have to try to shut me down because you can't stand to let my ideas be heard by others. Aww, too bad.

Hahaha, yes, I am the one with the "fairytale outlook". "War is always unacceptable no matter what". That's reality? That's idiotic.

What're you, kidding or something? America isn't good at military warfare lately? America is far better at fighting than we've ever been.

OK, you got him.... The United States military has the best military in the entire whole world. Too bad the armor doesn't match our might...

Maybe all of the whiny stories about how bad things are in Iraq are what's confusing you.

Please direct us to non-whiny stories about how GOOD things are in Iraq.

From: Stankleberry Sullivan
The people that write those articles are mostly just upset because they are always predicting that anything America tries to do will be a total failure, especially when there's a Republican President named George Bush. Then, when their idiotic predictions don't come true, they have to act like everything is horrible so people won't realize how totally bad they are at being news reporters.

Please post links to these reporters who have predicted that anything America tries to do will be a total failure... I'm not talking about op/ed pieces either.

I think you're misunderstanding something. I wrote the above. It is not a reposted article. It is not based on an article I read. It is not based on my understanding of mass media. It is not based on news reports.

Now that all put aside, would you care to discuss the topic at hand? How do YOU think we will proceed if there is another war, or war situation or a tension of that level? I outlined one given way to look at our capabilities in warfare and my thoughts and suggestions. Do you have any comment on those capabilities other than "we're awesome?"

From: Dianne Mechanique
Well there is so much wrong with your setup here and all the weird assumptions and statements you are making that its impossible to comment intelligently.

I will violate your first stipulation here and just say that they shouldn't wage war at all.
It's neither necessary, nor anything good.

I'm sorry if I made some weird assumptions or statements. I might be able to clarify some if you could help me with which ones are weirding you out or which statements are incorrect. I am largely just trying to avoid turning this into a peace vs war flame thread. Think of it as a 'what-if' scenario where our executive power has decided he will go to war with another country, on way or another, permission or not, and the speculation of the thread is what methods our country will employ to see that through. Saying, "war is wrong" is somewhat silly given the nature of the what-if. On the other hand, I'm not saying it's good here either. I'd love to see some methods we can choose that minimize or zero out loss of life if we can come up with any.

From: Jake Reitveld
An interesting topic, if a rather dangerous approach on these forums.

. . .

Obviously, but it should be discussed. Thank you for providing some background that I would probably have had a lot of trouble conveying without biasing it horribly.

Two words, carpet bombing.

What kind of bombs though? Fuel, napalm, improved napalm, nuclear, leaflet/propaganda, food+water? Are we going to bomb them until there's nothing left or until they surrender? Are we going to move in and annex the place, rebuild their own country, or just flip em off and that's it? Could you expound on carpet bombing more please :(

edit: page 3 already? Omfg, like 2 people have replied on the topic

I don't think nuclear should ever be used in offense and have difficulty in accepting it for defense or retribution.

Much like we did in Desert Storm, I think strategic carpet bombing of enemy positions and infrastructure is the way to go. Soften them up before using ground troops. We didn't do this in Iraq, the bombing and ground invasion were simultaneous and very ineffective.

I vote for all of the bomb types you mentioned except for nuclear. Leaflet/propaganda and food/water for non combatant positions of course.

The armor doesn't match our might? Oh, you're talking about the armor on the vehicles? Because the US should have just magically known 4 years ago that IEDs would be a big issue? You should be a hindsight general.

You really don't ever read the stories about how things are progressing in Iraq? If that's the case, you're avoiding them on purpose. Did you read any of the stories about the election last month? About the Iraqi security forces being trained? I'm not going to bother going to find links, you can use Google if you really want to find them.

Before both of the wars, there were quite a few articles written that predicted millions of dead Afghan's and Iraqi's, that we'd never take Baghdad, that we'd lost 20,000 soldiers during the invasion. Again, I'm not going to bother looking things up for you so you can dismiss them and call me a troll. It's not worth my time. Use Google.

Which post number was that Dingleberry?

I am too stupid to research. I don't know how to use google to look up a simple story about a man killing a 15 year old deaf and blind dog

Yes, yes, of course Stank, you're right. Our youth, the future of our country, is so much safer now, because we attacked Iraq. We're protecting them by subjecting them to IED and RPG attacks! Brilliant!

Funnily enough, I don't remember saying, "War is always unacceptable no matter what".

FYI, I am a veteran. My father gave his life for another numbnut's (yeah a war which a DEMOCRAT escalated - that ought to tell you something about my political views) "great" idea of "protecting the free world" in Vietnam. Don't you lecture me son.

You could try using what I do, experience.
We didn't have the needed armour in Bosnia. Guess what sport, that was way more than 4 years ago.

Fair enough, we had people surrendering to reporters in that conflict didn't we? So if it worked well then it should work well next time. Anything you might do different to increase effectiveness of those tactics?
