From: Phillip Bligh Could you imagine if they made a MMORPG out of this? It's been said since Morrowind and perhaps before, although I think it rather misses the point. An MMOG is massively multiplayer; you're one among thousands. In contrast, the Elder Scrolls games are kind of massively single-player; the whole story and world revolve around YOU and you alone. Which isn't to say I wouldn't snap an Elder Scrolls MMOG up right away, mind you.

someday.. we'll be together..

there had been rumours about MMO functionality early on in Oblivian's development, but they decided to focus on making the single-player experience all that it could be first... there seems to be an unspoken possibility of a future iteration of Elderscrolls as an MMO.. i'm crossing my fingers (just ot holding my breath).. of course, if that happens, then we can pretty much kiss WoW and it's counterparts good-bye.

I just wanted to add that I hate goblins. Even more than vampires now. That's all. Oh, and don't go to sleep if you haven't cured Porphyric Hemophilia yet. Good thing about leaving it for three months is that when I get back there will be some pretty cool mods out. That's what I keep telling myself anyway...

From: Cybin Monde happens, then we can pretty much kiss WoW and it's counterparts good-bye. Maybe not. Elder Scrolls does not appeal to some people... The freeform nature is actually a turnoff for some, as hard as that is to believe. They dont like the idea that you can just do... anything... as far as a character. And the fact that there are tangible differences in gameplay if you're an asshole in game... You loose some of the griefer population... But wouldn't it rock if griefers WERE hunted down like mad dogs by the guards? *spoilers, slightly* I'm only level 5 and I just shut down my second Oblivion Portal. I don't even feel like I've hardly touched the main quest, and almost none of the extra quests yet (except some of the Mage Guild stuff, becuae I want to get access to the Academy), but I've been playing for about 10 hours now total, at least. Counting the Imperial City, I've only even been to three of the major cities yet, not counting Kvatch.

How in the name of the Nine did you run into a vampire this early? I hate goblins because they have this nack of sneaking up on me. I currently dont have ANYTHING I hate as much as the spellcaster-type Daedric Churls though... I'm a spellsword... They keep running out of range of melee while lobbing damage spells at me, and my only ranged damage spell is a firebolt... and Daedra resist fire damn well. My chosen spell on Daedra is a cold touch spell, but... same problem as the sword.

They were pretty bad, but I haven't run into many. The only demons I have encountered so far actually... And I haven't seen any Oblivion Portals yet so far.

I am loving this game, but it is teh buggy Just once I would like to see a company release a game without it needing a patch 2 seconds later. It mars an otherwise wonderful product.

What a perfect summary of what makes Elder Scrolls so amazing. Morrowind and Oblivion both feel more "alive" to me than most MMORPGs.

They like lightning bolts, and big painful maces.

But it only happens when I'm exiting the game anyhow, so I'm not too worried about it.

I love this game, ever since I left the sewers, like most games I play that feature a wide world, I stray away from the matter at hand, find a horse, commit grand theft horse, stop somewhere, get in a fight, accidentaly slash the horse in the butt, and spend 12 minutes chasing after it, with or without the ocassional wolfy following the horse, Sweet.

I've only encountered one thing wrong with the game, In Kvatch inside the first Oblivion Gate there is a small rock floating in mid-air. I also have run into the crash at exit, but only once and it was after the longest stretch of time I've played the game so far.

I ran into a graphics bug where my screen got filled with garbage pixels in one particular area , but it's ONLY happened in that one particular area.

The parallells between Oblivion and SL are amazing.
For instance, I just crashed a dinner party and cast a spell that made everyone's clothing disappear.
Including mine.
They weren't too happy, but it was a good laugh.

Man, I hate to sound like a fanboy, but this game is amazing. Whats really interesting is that it sounds like we're all having a different gameplay experience. That's cool! Still working my way through the ranks of the Mage's Guild. I've secured my third reccomendation... I'll join the Academy yet! My allegience to the fighter's guild hasn't gone anywhere yet, but that will change... Although I'm hearing rumors around the streets of Lewyliin of a competior-guild to the Fighter's Guild that I'm going to look into... It sounds like they are a bit on the racist side, prefering bestial fighters, but I'm going to investigate further. I have noticed one peculiar... Not bug, really, just oversight in the programming, maybe. What the game considers "stealing" I wouldn't, sometimes. I'm kinda an ethicly grey character, and when cultists killed everyone in a monastary I felt no guilt about rummaging through the remains of the place for supplies and valuables... Unfortunatly, my companion at the time saw me and called me a theif. Doh

hmm..
03-24-2006 07:38
it seems the PC version is a bit buggy by the accounts here, yet i can't say i've seen ANY of these bugs on the 360 version. and after reading the posts after my last one.. i'm all ready to start playing again! i haven't joined any guilds yet, but i'm thinking i should join the Mages guild. i tend to build my character up a bit before getting to heavy into things.. i just reached level 3 last night and starting to get to a point where i could use that kind of back-up. i've closed the first Oblivian gate, but avoided the one near.. is it Chorrol? and yeah.. Cold Touch can do wonders. just run up to those no good Churls and touch them, then slash away. it only takes a couple hits to kill them. i also have to mention that i love how you can dodge fireballs and other long-range (and short range) attacks. unlike WoW or CoH/V, where if something is thrown your way it's most likely going to hit you.. regardless of dodging/running. heat seeking spells/arrows/etc. always bugged me about those games. ok, well.. i'm off to see if i've gotten anywhere with those books.. i forget what they're called, but i have all four and waiting to get the secret message decoded for me. (although, by reading the first line of each paragraph in the first book, i'm guessing there'll be four keys to find and use in some way) Game on!

Yesterday I decided to install Oblivion on my 2nd gaming computer which has an ATi x800 in it, and strange enough, the x800 performed just as well as my nVidia 7800! This struck me as strange, so I sacked the Internet for an explanation, and discovered a solution for nVidia card owners: Download the new 84.25 beta ForceWare drivers here. They were specifically released a couple days ago to improve Oblivion performance, as there is a big performance issue with the old drivers. After you install the 84.25 drivers, download ForceWare CoolBits here. This will modify a registry setting to unlock all options in your nVidia display properties. Go into your Advanced graphics properties, and you will notice that there is a new unlocked nVidia graphics option called Additional Direct3D Settings. Change the Max Frames to Render Ahead from "3" to "0". I did this last night and it's given me a ton more FPS. Now this is the way the game was meant to be played!

From: Lordfly Digeridoo I've got it.
I've fallen into my personal trap of anal-retentive power-gaming, so I've played about 5 hours and haven't even left the main city yet, nor done any quests. I've mostly been lifting goods that aren't nailed down.
The AI, so far, is... interesting. The first time I went into a tavern, 10 npcs spontaneously jumped up and ran for the door to greet me. It was like a mosh pit in front of the door.
In another, I snuck into a pirate ship and stole some stuff. Somehow the pirates knew (without seeing me), and started chasing me through a village. Well, I ran into the water. They immediately turned around and ran back to their ship. Huh, I thought. So I snuck out of the water, arrows drawn, and smacked them. When they got too close, I ran into the water again. Rinse, repeat.
In yet another, a quest, I had to steal something from someone in their house. They caught me, so started attacking me. I ran out of the house towards the water, but before I could I see a guard run by and whack the attacking NPC, until she ran away.
As far as dynamic situations go, though, there isn't much that happens "on the fly", aside from non-sequitor conversations. (greeting, greeting, non-sequitor, agreement, parting, parting)
I can already tell the physics will be fun. Anything you can pick up is Havok-enabled, and all monsters/npcs have ragdoll physics.
However, if you have a Geforce 5700, might I suggest upgrading; I just placed an order for a Geforce 6600, which theoretically will get me up to medium-spec.
I have minimum detail on everything (even 640x480 resolution) and get around 4 fps average. Oi. Looks purdy though. Congrats on paying off your credit card/tuition debt. That was quick.

From: Lordfly Digeridoo Thanks. Student loans do wonders, or will once the university stops dragging its heels on the paperwork (week or less) How's those million+ starving kids in Calcutta ? Surely you're not taking a break while those poor widdle kiddies starve to death. Get back to work, they're counting on you with your broadband and your PC and your high-and-mightiness. Wench. Wow, I was just congratulating you on paying off all your debt, repaying the fine people in SL that you pledge to repay, even the ones that offered their money as gifts and still having money leftover for the small luxuries in life. Nice to know you are so deserving of the kindness of others... The poor children in Calcutta aren’t on high end PCs, with broadband, free time and extra money to upgrade said high end PCs begging for money, so leave them out of this. Maybe you can donate your video card money, since you are so in touch with the people.
