Yeah, to really see everything in its full glory it'll probably take a high end computer to do it, whereas all you need for the Xbox 360 version is the machine itself.

I've got it.
I've fallen into my personal trap of anal-retentive power-gaming, so I've played about 5 hours and haven't even left the main city yet, nor done any quests. I've mostly been lifting goods that aren't nailed down. The AI, so far, is... interesting. The first time I went into a tavern, 10 npcs spontaneously jumped up and ran for the door to greet me. It was like a mosh pit in front of the door. In another, I snuck into a pirate ship and stole some stuff. Somehow the pirates knew (without seeing me), and started chasing me through a village. Well, I ran into the water. They immediately turned around and ran back to their ship. Huh, I thought. So I snuck out of the water, arrows drawn, and smacked them. When they got too close, I ran into the water again. Rinse, repeat. In yet another, a quest, I had to steal something from someone in their house. They caught me, so started attacking me. I ran out of the house towards the water, but before I could I see a guard run by and whack the attacking NPC, until she ran away. As far as dynamic situations go, though, there isn't much that happens "on the fly", aside from non-sequitor conversations. (greeting, greeting, non-sequitor, agreement, parting, parting) I can already tell the physics will be fun. Anything you can pick up is Havok-enabled, and all monsters/npcs have ragdoll physics. However, if you have a Geforce 5700, might I suggest upgrading; I just placed an order for a Geforce 6600, which theoretically will get me up to medium-spec. I have minimum detail on everything (even 640x480 resolution) and get around 4 fps average. Oi. Looks purdy though. _____________________

How did you get a copy a day early? I reserved it through my local GameStop 2 two weeks ago and yesterday they said that it comes out today.
I've noticed a lot of games don't live up to some of the developers own hype, like the game Fable. Luckily I have the recommended requirements to play the game. _____________________

Kinda like the first one.. I found the AI was predictable.. the run away and come back tactic worked a charm ![]() Considering one of the main selling points of the game is their much-touted Radiant AI system, I'm a bit miffed. I mean, seriously, I was standing in 3 feet of water. Actually, only one pirate died that way. The other one jumped INTO the water and drowned immediately, or otherwise ceased to render. hmm.. runs on a 5700? guess my 9800xt will have a go so ![]() Well, if by "run" you mean at 4 fps, then yes. ![]() _____________________

Actually, only one pirate died that way. The other one jumped INTO the water and drowned immediately, or otherwise ceased to render. This is all a bit sad really. I was hoping they'd be beyond that sort of thing by now. With all that processing power it surpises me they haven't taken care of something like water properly. I guess they're too busy making it look nice. Hope the flora has got a little better. If you pick a plant is there any visible difference, or is it just a container as in Morrowind? I've noticed a lot of games don't live up to some of the developers own hype, like the game Fable. Totally know what u mean about that one. There's some cool stuff in Fable (like gettin pissed and throwing up ) but it couldn't keep my attention to the end. I gave up trying to do a mission where I had to rescue a little boy. One of the big selling points of this game is that everything u do effects who u become, yet when the boy dies it's game over. Surely if he dies I gotta just take the consequences and go on ![]() |

Oblivion Killer on the Way?
03-21-2006 03:26
Anyone come across this yet? A game in the works for 360 called Two Worlds.
http://www.xbox360news.com/Blogs/News/hqs/blr_2344.aspx This is the sort of thing I really like to hear... Depending on the way that a problem is solved, the player gains or loses their reputation in certain organizations, various options are being closed or opened, quests are offered and new locations are unlocked. For example, a player must decide whether to help a city hold off the invasion of orcs or to secretly open the gates and let the invaders in. The latter decision will result in an onslaught and the take over of the city by the barbaric hordes. The next time the player visits this location, it will be populated and managed by orcs, unless the human army arrives and tries to liberate the city. The world lives its own life, but the player has the power to change it. The challenge lies in finding the right "strings" and skilfully "pulling" them and complete quests and will also be rewarded by different factions accordingly for the results of their actions. |

Too early to care. Remember how much Fable was hyped? Or Trespasser? These types of games always seem to fall short. _____________________

Been playing oblivion all morning.
I can't say it runs like a dream. I'm running at 800x600 on a GeForce 5900, with most graphics options on, and while it's not silky per say, it's playable, even with multiple monsters on screen. I'm actually impressed at how well it handles that, truthfully... the difference between one creature or a city-street full of people is pretty minor, performance wise. The game is *golden*. Even the 'tutorial' is great. Lockpicking and social interaction as minigames is brilliant, even though lockpicking has been done before a few times. Its like Morrowind, but... as morrowind shoulda been. I spent over an hour just tinkering with the character generator, and I'm sure I'm going to create many more characters over the years. It is, in some ways, even more detailed than SL's system. Get this game. Don't walk, run. Buy it now. _____________________

Wow, I picked this game up last night, and I must say it's phenomenal.
I was a big fan of Morrowind, and Oblivion is Morrowind with an improvement on interface, physics, and graphics. * Some Morrowind irks are gone- Thankfully, quest updates are now grouped together, plus it's multi-tabbed depending on quests, active quests, and completed quests. * AI is smarter (and more suspicious..), they have daily, realistic schedules that don't confine them to a certain area, and they even interact / have random conversations with each other when their paths cross. * Combat system is improved and more exciting (you can now kill enemies by dropping/rolling heavy things onto them or knocking them off from somewhere high). * Option of Lockpicking via hand-eye-coordination rather than random chance of lockpicking skill vs. lock difficulty. I'm sure there is a bunch of other new elements brought into the game that I have yet to discover, as I've only had about 3 hours worth of playtime thus far. I plan on playing the crap out of this game, though. Complaints? The only gripe I have with it is that the graphics are a little too good- as in, it looks like this was designed to run on next-gen computer hardware (1920x1200 is choppy even with a Athlon64X2-4800 and a GeForce 7800). I just found an nVidia tweak guide for Oblivion this morning, so I'll try some of those tonight. _____________________

My computer runs it in medium detail just fine; you do get the disconcerting 'popping in" of vegetation but quite frankly, I'm used to that from SL...
And I concur. This is a game where the hype is absolutely correct; this is a massively single-player roleplaying game. ![]() _____________________

* Some Morrowind irks are gone- #1 on my list, and will be for any other spellswords/battlemages: Casting spells is much slicker. No toggling between combat mode and casting mode... You cast offhand, even with a weapon armed. I can't wait until I can afford a horse... Blocking is much nicer now too. I'm also super-happy that the 2H warhammer has become an integral weapon again. My "end game" weapon in Daggerfall was a warhammer. I'm currently playing a kinda generic Breton spellsword, but I do intend to recreate Brune the Nord Stormthane from Daggerfall ![]() I'm sure there is a bunch of other new elements brought into the game that I have yet to discover, as I've only had about 3 hours worth of playtime thus far. I plan on playing the crap out of this game, though. Learn to watch ceilings, up ramps and hills, etc. The traps and falling things hurt you too. ![]() Complaints? The only gripe I have with it is that the graphics are a little too good- as in, it looks like this was designed to run on next-gen computer hardware (1920x1200 is choppy even with a Athlon64X2-4800 and a GeForce 7800). I just found an nVidia tweak guide for Oblivion this morning, so I'll try some of those tonight. Christ, don't complaint. 1920x1200 would melt my computer. I'm running at 800x600 for the moment until I can afford an upgrade. My monitor doesn't even support that high, and my monitor is a 600 dollar ViewSonic. Theres supposed to be driverse released for nVidia cards today that contains Oblivion-specific tweaks. I can't wait. Maybe I can crank it up to 1024 then. _____________________

If you can, turn off the "disable far clip" option or whatever it is. When I first popped out of the sewers it was cool, but I wandered through the video options til I found that, and when I toggled it off... damn...
This game is amazing. I have to agree with the spellcasting part, that's so much better than Morrowind, and even though I usually play full warriors i'm making use of destruction and restoration a lot more. I'm having so much fun. I'm walking to another town and I keep getting sidetracked by dungeons popping up along the way. I hate necromancers... and I think i've already contracted vampirism. We'll find out after a few days pass. I haven't encountered any AI problems yet really... _____________________

I can't wait until I can afford a horse... There is a way you can get one for free without needing to steal one, not sure if you get to keep it though. You just follow the story line till you get to where you give the necklace you got from the Emperor to that guy Joufree(sp) and one of the monks there will give you a horse to ride. Just make sure its the right one or the guy outside will yell that there is a thief stealing a horse. You can go there right after you leave the sewers. In a game like this I usually do the story line first then go back and do whatever I want. (You do get to keep that horse, but to get a faster horse you have to buy one, at one place it was 1,000 gold and a word of caution if you get motion sickness don't ride in 3rd person) _____________________

wow..
well, i basically just disappeared for the past couple of days. and imagine that i won't be around anywhere near as much as i had been recently.. Oblivian has grabbed me hard. i've been waiting for this just as long as the rest of you.. was really disappointed when i found out it wasn't a launch title for 360, but ended up groovy because i had to wait a while before getting my Xbox 360 anyway. yes, i know, shame on me.. i got it for the 360. however, on the package it lists the Xbox Live features as "content download"!! (yet to find out if that includes mods or not, but at least it means new content of some kind will be added as we go along!)also, when i first popped it in my Xbox, it gave me a message that it had to update the system first (from the disk). in any case.. it's an awesome game.. i did as i always do.. spent a whole lot of time exploring the character customization tools and ended up with a nifty Argonian (love breathing underwater! plus resistance to disease and immune to poison) and keeping true to customizing my character, created my own class (Lasher) as well. ok, well.. i'll try to come back again sometime.. butOblivian is calling.. ![]() _____________________
