Okay, you two, as much fun as it is to see the petty bickering, I'd much rather hear more about Oblivion.

Or go back to playing it. ALL MUDCRABS WILL DIE.

Hopefully picking up Oblivion tomorrow (short on cash ATM). Just one frickin' question: Cliff Racer?? Still there & annoying as ever? Or gone & replaced by something as annoying??

No matter where you went in Morrowind, those damn birds were always there attacking!!!

No cliff racers... The new cliffracers are wolves and bandits ;) A bit less annoying, though.

At least you can avoid them with fast travel, and they aren't very hard to fight... unlike cliff racers.

In fact, my mighty magicks normally make short (one spell) work of wolves, and little more for bandits... But I cant cast from horseback, which is a minor frustration.

I love the spellcasting gesture for my fireball though. Its kinda a wave of the hand. It looks like I'm saying "talk to the hand" as I kill them :D

Yesterday I decided to install Oblivion on my 2nd gaming computer which has an ATi x800 in it, and strange enough, the x800 performed just as well as my nVidia 7800! This struck me as strange, so I sacked the Internet for an explanation, and discovered a solution for nVidia card owners:

Download the new 84.25 beta ForceWare drivers here. They were specifically released a couple days ago to improve Oblivion performance, as there is a big performance issue with the old drivers.

After you install the 84.25 drivers, download ForceWare CoolBits here. This will modify a registry setting to unlock all options in your nVidia display properties.

Go into your Advanced graphics properties, and you will notice that there is a new unlocked nVidia graphics option called Additional Direct3D Settings. Change the Max Frames to Render Ahead from "3" to "0".

Thanks. I only got Oblivion this week (grr @ european game distributors) and I had frame rates similar to SL. It runs a bit better with the new drivers and the tweak but it's not a dramatic change.

Some observations:
- I'm dying way too often! :p
- I've noticed I play Oblivion the same way I play SL - examing how it's built and taking my time to admire the excellent texturing work
- at some point when people are done playing the game, we should make a group for Oblivion fans in SL and try to create mods. With all the talented people here, some kick ass content should come out of it :)

In short, I haven't had this much fun playing a game since San Andreas ...

I just got started playing this game yesterday and its amazing.I'm not suffering any bugs at all on my 360. Just once it froze up when i tried to fast track to another part of town. Other than that, its been smooth running throughout.

I'm finding myself in the Arena a hell of alot heheh. Nothing like winning the gold instead of stealing it..with the added bonus of battlering a few natives to death with my newly acquired Fine Iron Longsword ;)

I'm still yet to understand the art of mage or magicka. Although i chose it as my birthsign,i'm still finding i don't use it all that often, i prefer hand to hand combat with my sword.

I also have started about 6 quests so far including the original storyline of delivering the Amulet of Kings. I have not completed any of them hahah. I'm finding i'm getting sidetracked with exploring the world, its bloody huge!

Whats everyone else's Race,Birthsign, ect? Heres mine:

Race : Argonian
Birthsign : The Mage
Class Knight
Level : 2

I'm after a little help here aswell if possible lol. I got a note from the Grey Fox, and i couldn't find the place to meet with him. I went to the Waterfront District, but i'm buggered if i could find the Garden of Dareloth, and its not anywhere to be seen on the maps. Any tips?

Ok,must dash, gonna head west toward a place called Crowhaven to trace the origins of Gro-Malog, the Arena Grand Champion w00t. Gonna kill his sorry arse one day..maybe? hmm lol

Go to your quest log and click on that quest and it'll make it the active quest then that place will appear on your local area map as a green arrow I believe. Its actually just somebodys back yard.

So far I've gotten to level 4 and I am following the story line, however I do the occasional side quest. I've join two guilds so far, the Blades and the Thieves Guild. I have closed 2 Oblivion Gates so far and have just discovered a 3rd.

Oooo. Factions.

Fighter's Guild: Apprentice
Mage's GUild: Conjurer
Blades: Knight-Brother
Order of the Virtuous Blood: Brother (How's that for ironic?)
Arena: Pit Dog

I did the first quest of Glarthir's... Then I got sick of him. Thinking about killing him, if I ever want into the Dark Brotherhood. I'd feel bad murdering a lot of the NPCs, but not him.

I just thought i'd mention that even though I can't play now, my character is level 3 and found a ring of water breathing in a barrel at level 2, so she's better than all of you. :p

I'm level 15 now and have four Daedric Artifacts, so... I believe I have "pwned" your character, to use a modern term.

I'm not actually playing it (not enough time atm), but I gave it a go because I wanted to see how my PC handles the graphics.

Well, it feels a lot more accesible than Morrowind (which I never managed to get into). The AI's still bloody aweful though, and when I say that I mean complete and utter crap.

I mean; I was playing a rogue so I thought I'd borrow a horse from the priory while the stable hand's back was turned and return it after the quest they'd sent me on with a cheeky grin. So everything goes well and I lead Martin out of the city I'd just saved, I jump on my borrowed horse to return to the priory and everyone that I've just saved from certain destruction(!) starts attacking me because they think I've stolen the horse. So I had to kill them.

That's just dumb. Even if they had seen it before, were great at recognising plain brown horses and knew who it belongs to there's no way they could have known I shouldn't have had it - they were stuck in a city under seige. Plus I'd just saved their goddamn lives, you'd think they'd show a bit of leeway for that wouldn't you?

And don't even get me started on the combat AI. Continually attacking an indestructable poisonous weed thing because you walk into it certainly isn't what I'd call clever. Unless, maybe if you've got a deathwish.

I expect better from a game detailed enough that I can pull an arrow out of my horse's anus.

When I'm with a combat NPC I just let them do the fighting as much as possible, letting them either take down the opponent or weaken them.

hehe... Kewl comic strip. Sad thing about it is that I've actually seen that happen many times. At one point when I was having to follow some dude through the sewers I just gave up even having a shot at the random rats and such cause he keep gettin in the way. But maybe we just expect too much. I mean we've come a long way from Pools of Radiance in glorius CGA haven't we. Oblivion still kicks ass of any RPG I've ever played.

...and here's a few stats of my own...
Race: Dark Elf
Birthsign: The Shadow
Class: Nightblade
Level: 11

Couple of the spells I use most often are Heal Major Wounds, and Hailstone. Occasionally drop back to Flare or Shocking Touch. Only closed one Oblivion gate but I've found 5 or 6 others already. Keep bumping into them where ever I go (usually cause I'm hunting for Nirnroot). Made it to Journeyman on Blade, Destruction & Light Armour (with Athletics & Restoration coming up soon) so I think I got a good balance goin.

Factions are...
Mages Guild: Associate (Any one know how to get J'skar to appear in Bruma? That's the last recommendation I need.)
Blades: Knight Brother
Theives Guild: Pickpocket
Order of the Virtuous Blood: Brother

BTW... in regards to Glarthir. I helped him right up to the point he wanted me to kill the others. I said no, and he decided to have a go himself. He got killed by the guards of course. So I stole his key and ransacked his house for anything of value :D

Well the important NPCs can't die, so who cares if you shoot at them or not. What annoys me more are the laughable rewards you get for some quests - like the one where you have to find a hidden treasure for a woman whose husband is in jail, she will tell you they ambushed a tax transport and when you finally find it, it's 40 gold! Bah.

Kermitt, talk to some other dude in the mages guild in Bruma and he'll help you to make J'skar visible if you bring him what he wants.

I'm playing a Dark Elf (/Monk) too (I'm level 5 or 6 now), he's virtually fire-resistent which is very handy in those oblivion gates.

Edit: Ok, a NPC I was supposed to help with a quest just started to attack me and killed me

The mods for this are starting to come out already. I downloaded one that puts in a NPC that sells hoods that protects you from sunlight if you become a Vampire and the NPC also sells lockpicks. I got it from Fileplanet.

I like playing as an Argonian so I can swim around. I love swimming! But one thing I noticed is the waters dont seem to team with life as much as Morrowind.

And for the record- it runs sweetly on my machine, graphics cranked up. Only stupid issue is the CTD upon exiting the game, which they mention. Doesnt happen all the time either.
