I have some nice pictures of gray cloud rectangles. They look a lot better than many builds in SL.

Happening to me too -- for maybe about a minute, I'm just some floating attachements: hair, jewellry, shoes, etc...

It eventually resolves, but is a wee bit scary!

For each person experiencing this: when your avatar is invisible and you logon, do you see this message?
Your clothing is still downloading.
You can use the world normally, and other users
will see your correctly.

I get that one yes... BUT i takes TIME to se myselff.. and that hits my hearth hard.. it feel no good..

BTW When someone poff (log of)... the blue communication box say - xx logged of - but the ava still stay in front of me for extra long seconds:-))) Another kind of ghost LOL..

The "Children of the Corn Log on"
03-21-2006 09:02
I'm getting the same problem.

But what I'm noticing is that my friend Brigette and I - when we look at each other when logging in, once the invisibility wears off, it looks like we are CHILDREN!

Much smaller and with big feet sticking out of our shoes (kinda like hobbits only not as cute) - oh and with SHORT HAIR too!

I have had things missing from my inventory and once when I went to search for "WORN" items, only a few of the things I had actually had worn would show in the list.

I flew out of my sim once and kept flying - it seems I flew around the world because I ended up on the other side of my house! Then big chunks of things were "missing" - walls, floor prims, etc...

Also in many sims I can't see the ground texture - it's a grey world!!!

Fooo...

As of last night after the optional update, I am still logging in to the invisible avatar that takes up to 10 minutes to show.

My inventory still seems to take at least 15 minutes to download ( with less than 10,000 items).

My friends online list still never shows. If I want to know who is online, I have to look on the website, then search for them in find, as calling cards show them as offline as well.

So far I have lost 2 articles of clothing to be replaced by new socks, and new shirt respectively, both are now default white, full perms, and still show the original creator name.

When I do finally rez in, whatever I had on is totally blurred, including skin, and never rezzes back to unblurred unless I take it off and put it on again. And risk having it change to new whatever.

This is totally avie specific, as none of these issues occur on my son's account in teen grid, or on my alt's account (who both have almost the same amount of inventory as Midnite does).

Are we all wearing custom body shapes?
03-21-2006 11:18
Are those of us experiencing this problem all wearing custom body shapes?

Is there anybody NOT wearing a custom body experiencing the invisible-on-logon?

Perhaps it's an issue with the direct sim-to-sim transfer feature in the new version losing the filepath to where our bodies' textures and/or other info reside?

What do you mean by custom body shape Menu?

If you are meaning one where the sliders have been adjusted to suit the look we want to have, then you would be hard pressed to find anyone that doesn't have one, as even brand new resis do that almost immediately.

If you are meaning a bought shape, then mine is not custom. The shape of my avie is entirely of my own creation.

invisible to self but appear like small child to others... ?
03-22-2006 05:00
This is clearly connected to what many others have experienced, just thought I'd add my tuppence worth... I am temporarily invisible when i log in - invisible to myself, that is. I am reliably informed that during my invisibility, I appear like a "small woman" to others.

I have no unusual body shape, no prim hair, everything pretty much as standard.

This seems to happen every time since 1.9... not a major issue for me, but a black collar that appears around the back of my neck is beginning to bug me!

Logic fails me
03-22-2006 13:17
Haha - yeah, I was talking about BOUGHT body shapes. Sorry - I'm not well versed in the vernacular of SL where body things are concerned.

It seemed logical to me that a lot of this was due to the new way of transferring information from SimA directly to SimX - and perhaps this was responsible for many of the problems people are having with this new version (1.9.0.(17).WTF.?.!.*) - lost items, invisible AVs, etc. But as with a lot of things in SL (as I'm finding out), logic seldom comes into play here.

That was my deux centavos - sure hope LL gets these bugs fixed. As it is, any newbies coming in will turn right around and leave, and thousands of people who have lost irreplaceable and expensive items will be storming the mayor's house demanding their money back.

It's A Wonderful SLife.

I have only seen an extended invis time upon login (usually 30 seconds or more.

It likely isn't anything wrong with our settings/systems/install....etc....

Considering LL has patched a few times recently and had a major 1.9 upgrade, something likely broke on their end, I wouldn't pull hair out reinstalling and desperatly changing settings.

I have seen something similar years back ( the invis time upon logging in) and after a couple patches it was corrected). I'm not trying to be a LL fan boy or yel lat ya all, just don't want to see people get stressed over something they likely can't do anything about :-(.

On a curious note, (just for personal information gathering) those of you having this bug.....how long are you invis verses how fast is your internet connection?

Then try a tracert on www.secondlife.com and see what your total route time is in comparison.

If you want to try this and have no clue, go to start>run then type cmd
you will get a black box open on your screen, in there type tracert www.secondlife.com

reason being, is I notice a rather fast connection between all but the last "hop" to LL.

I am wondering if there is some sort of routing issue on LL's part maybe? (question for LL to ponder if they are looking for avenues to check?)

Torley

I am curious as to what the criteria is for "Known Issues"

I mean as soon as 1.9 came on-line people realized that they could no longer teleport to any altitude above about 250m - but so far all I have seen about this are user comments - nothing from Linden labs.
(In fact teleporting to any coordinate 255 away from you doesn't work - although most have not noticed this as 256m in a non-vertical direction ends in another sim and is therefore catered for )

Is this a "Known issue" ? Does Linden Lab know about it ?

If you read this then I will assume that Linden Lab now does know about it and will eagerly watch the forum for some sort of notice regarding it.

Is it here to stay - in which case I will redesign my products to work around it.

Is it a bug - in which case I will advise my customers accordingly.

Or is it being ignored ?

This solution works 90% of the time when other avies are invisible, so it should work for You : rt click on your avie and select "Groups", change your current group that is activated to a different one and select "apply"; exit; thats should suddenly rezz any avies that were invisible; sometimes You have to do this 2x tho;

Adriana, Known Issues are updated weekly. I'm not sure of the problem you're having--have you already sent in a detailed bug report? Please do so if you haven't already, it's possible we don't enough about info about it. It sounds sort of like this change to llMapDestination.

That's a workaround for when you are entirely invisible, nametag and all. With the "invisible avatar" problem reported here, one of the key things is that "Your clothing is still downloading." message, and attachments and nametag are still viewable. I've tried this myself, not to any effect, so this suggests it is something different.

Today I spent more than 15 minutes seeing myself as nothing but floating attachments. The guy I was chatting with said he saw nothing wrong with my appearance. I tried changing groups, telporting, going in and out of mouselook... What finally did it was logging off and on again, and getting lucky enough not to see that error on login.

Right now when it happens, I'm just sighing and switching to mouselook, where I don't have to look at myself as a collection of floating add-on parts!

One thing I noticed. If I look at my inventory when I am invisible, it thinks it still hasn't loaded my body shape or my skin yet. Neither indicates it is 'worn', and selecting them and telling the system to wear them has no effect.

Eventually, it does come back to normal. Usually. But that last time, it just took WAY too long, and I ran out of patience.

I havent experianced "perma-Invis" but I have seen a couple of people who were just Hair and Shoes wandering around... rather startling actually.

What though I'd like to add to this conversation is an observation from the past, which may have some relevence to this (and other similar) issues:

I have observed that when entering an area where there are a large number of people and/or objects, that many objects (and clothing on the AV's) never fully rezes. Usually just textures are missing. On several occastions I've looked at the debug and stats and noted that my client reports it has NO pending downloads, even though things obviously arent finished.

Obviously there is some sort of Que for asset downloads on the client and I'm wondering if the problem is that once the Que is full.... If there are still objects that need textures etc that need to be que'd but the que is full.... the client wouldnt remember to download them so... so it never asks the server for them.

Purr-haps this is why we so often have grey this and that for hours and hours....

/shrug ... thinking out loud, mebby that will give someone an idea of what to look at

Yes it is that one

And this one

/111/89/93810/1.html

Which as you note from Kokoro's post WAS reported to Linden (on day 1 of 1.9 )

Yet still is is NOT known

So now you have a bug report for it - at least two threads about it - You know about it

Would you like me to bug report it again - and again - and again until someone KNOWS about it ?

Sorry I am a tad annoyed that it WAS reported on the 1st day of release 1.9 and has never been mentioned since.

PS

You didn't answer my question - what constitutes a KNOWN ISSUE ?
A Bug report - 100 bug reports
A Thread - 100 threads
Someone bringing it to a Linden's personal attention ?

I would like to know so that I can save time sending in bug reports if they are being ignored in favour of some other criteria.

A known issue generally is when we are aware about a problem--pardon the redundancy--and are able to confirm it, often with a solid reproduction. Those repros are invaluable. It can be big, it can be small, or anywhere in between.

James Linden recently wrote:

From: someone
My apologies, folks. I'm responsible for 1.9 clamping llMapDestination vectors to positions between 0,0,0 and 254,254,254. I didn't know people relied on it working for positions outside that range.

I've changed the code to go back to the old behavior. This will ship with the next server patch, probably 1.9.0.18, probably in a week or so.

Sorry,

James

I have found and fixed the problem that causes invisible avatars on login. The fix will ship with Second Life 1.9.0.18, expected some time next week.

Basically, an attempt to optimize the world map backfired. We were trying to preload some of its information on startup. Sometimes, especially on Mac, especially on lossy network connections (ie, not in our office), this would cause the avatar's shape information to be lost or massively delayed.

I'm sorry to say there's no good workaround until 1.9.0.18.

Thankyou for that

I await to see the updated known issues report and to see the release notes for when it is included in a release.

That - you see - is part of the problem.

If you do not acknowledge it as a known-issue - you do not report it as being fixed.
Therefore we have to rely on constantly trying it out to see if things have changed - which quite frankly is a waste of effort when it takes one person to say "Ooops - yes we have put that back" - officially - in the place you would expect to see it.

Known Issues and release notes.
