Was logged on most of the day after todays patch, moved around inworld with the nomral lagginess, then got booted off about an hour and a half ago, and now when logging on I get as far as the handshake before getting kicked back to the login screen, one thing I noted is that I seem to get the login screen overlain with the ingame screen which I hadn't noticed before. I have not changed any settings other than my chat bubble color since I started playing SL.
Thanks

same login problem with region handshake
08-09-2006 16:21
I have had this problem for months, on and off -- i t comes and goes on a day-to-day basis. Some days, no problems at all logging in. Other days, I cannot get in for minutes, sometimes as much as an hour. Then suddenly I am able to log in, and do not see the region handshake message at all. Quite weird.

But here's the thing. I only see this problem when logging in from my office (I am trying to use SL in my work -- so I log in from my office a lot). I don't seem to have this "region handshake" problem at all when logging in from home.

In my office, I have a full T1 line. At home, I have a cable modem. Different access methods. Different ISPs. Apples and oranges. So it is not a controlled experiment or environment. But there appears to be something about accessing SL from my office (T1) that results in "region handshake" login problems, on and off.

Hope this helps narrow down where the problem is. Obviously, it is a problem affecting quite a few people, not just me....

Thanks,

Lex Lardner

Just an fyi to everyone. I'm not sure what is causign this but i'mthinking it has to do with SL the application itself and not any network settings. Possibly how it uses your network build? id on't know i just know that it works fine for me in XP but doesn't work at all in Vista rc1 i get the same error you are all getting. That to me means there is some programming issue that isn't working with vista while it works ok in xp for me.

Me too

First, let's not confuse things:

Tina, I believe you're referring to repeatedly logging in to the SL Forums, right? That's a separate issue which is being investigated: /111/3f/101503/1.html

Caoimhe and Lillith are referring to logging into SL itself.

Looks like a good thing here is Caoimhe's presence is displaying incorrectly--as offline inworld, but online internally.

I'll ask for Caoimhe to be unwedged, and also, if there's any more info that can be unravelled from your details, Lillith.

Thanks... anyone else having the exact "Unable to connect. Login packet never recieved by login server. Please try again in a few minutes." problem, please share as well.

I have the exact same problem, I get to Waiting for Region handshake, then I get, Login packet never received by login server, can you PLEASE help me?

Also how do I find those files you need and send them to you (sorry I'm ignorant of tech stuff) those C:/documents and settings/[username]\application data\secondlife\logs ?

FWIW: I had a friend try to log on to his account on my laptop at work to show me something he is building, and he got the "Unable to connect. Login pakcet never received by login server." error after the "Wait for region handshake" point in the progress bar.

I tried logging in myself immediately afterward and had no problem whatsoever. My friend tried logging in again and got the same error again. My av is over at NCI HQ and my friend is still in the help island sandbox area.

Both of these were done on the same laptop with the same network connection and with the same installed version of the game and within a minute of each other This makes it seem to be a problem on the Linden side of the fence.

best westerns + speedlinks = suck
01-10-2007 01:32
i'm guessing most of the people having hotel connection problems are in best westerns with speedlinks wifi. i travel for my job and can never connect when staying in these hotels. i'm on a mac and have never gotten this problem anywhere else. sure wish they'd get a solution though. i hate getting stuck for several days without SL.

After reading through this thread I added the port to my shortcut. It worked instantly. I can connect now, without a hitch. I tried it with the old setting, without the command, and couldn't log in.
It seems that connection isn't being made at the stated ports somehow... If I read back my routerlogs, I have conection fails. After the -port 13000 no failure. Ridle me this .... can't make any other logical explanation.

Same problem
04-10-2007 22:33
HI All,
Add me to the growing list of people experiencing this message:

"Unable to connect. Login packet never recieved by login server. Please try again in a few minutes."

I've been trying to log in for a few days now with no success. I always get stopped at this stage.

Any ideas?

Same here

I'm having the exact same problem here too.

I'm using the linux client so that kind of rules out the client OS as an issue.
There is no firewall or virus scanner installed on my linux desktop.
I have not recently upgraded the client or the OS

I last logged in 2 days ago without any problems.

I'll send my logs as well as a tcpdump - which may give you some other clues (last thing that happens is some udp packets are sent)
also don't mind the 1_13_3_59036_FIRSTLOOK client, I find it more stable than the new one.

regards,
Oberon

Edit: I should add - I'm currently in a hotel - perhaps they do something strange to high port UDP packets on the broadband here. Though I'm in hotels all the time and haven't had a login issue before.

help?
09-20-2007 20:25
you submit a ticket and wait like i have for a week with no reply. Home network, was working beofre 9/14/07. After that cannot login to SL with any accounts, with any computers using 3 different routers with all the same result. Waiting for handshake to region and then could not send login packet to login servers.

firewall?
09-21-2007 00:29
I have windows firewall disabled and no other firewall software installed like Mcafee, NIS or zonealarm and have tried it on another computer freshly installed with xp and sl. looking more and more like my ISP may be blocking ports possibly

Add me to the list...

Experiencing the same "waiting for region handshake" error. I am running 1.18.4(3) on Mac OS 10.5. First time trying SL on my Mac, so I can't say if it's ever worked before. I'll dig up my logs and post when I get a chance. Kind of disappointed, was looking forward to SL on my Mac...

Apparently this issue wasn't completely resolved because as of last night I have been experiencing the same thing. as the packet was not recieved by login server. Nothing has changed on my end but all of a sudden I have this issue.

an uninstall by itself will not work. You have to go in and delete folders as well.

Go to
My Computer
C: hard drive
Documents and settings
tricky part here is your login folder or profile folder. could me any assortments of names but its the name you see when you click on start menu
Now you will also have to turn on view hidden folders ( tools/folder options)
Application Data folder then Second life folder will be in it and delete it.
After that uninstall. Restart PC and reinstall.

That is the process I used. Might be the fix might not. I could have just been lucky.
