I've gone through every step, looking through my settings to see if it's a firewall issue that's causing me this problem. Rest assured, I didn't post my quandary here on the forums without first taking every step I could to ensure I couldn't solve the problem on my own. Coming to these forums was the last step I decided to take, in light of the fact that I tried everything else, including, even, hard-resetting my router and manually reconfiguring its settings.
The only thing I have not tried thus far is call my ISP to see if there is some sort of built-in firewall that thier service is now utilizing. One item of interest to note: Looking back at the timeline, my ISP recently upgraded its connection services from 256k to 1mbps recently, and this Login Packet problem popped up right about the same time, as well. The thing is, it'd been running at the new speeds and configuration for twwo or three days before I started having this problem. At any rate. I guess all I can do is sit back and wait. I miss my friends in SL a lot, but there's not much I can do at this point in time. |

Same problem, mine started after update.
04-26-2006 12:16
I started having the same problem after the last update. I hadn't logged in for a few weeks prior to that, so it's impossible to say if it was the update, but nothing else changed. After a *LOT* of trail and error, reading everything I could find and trying every setting I could think of, I found something that worked for me. I had to turn off my routers "Stateful Packet Inspection" feature. With everything exactly the way it was before I had the problem, I can turn on SPI and the problem returns, and turn it off and it goes away. It was always on before this problem cropped up, so I believe there was some change to SL there. I hope this provides some clue that helps resolve the issue. I know many routers with firewalls, and software firewalls, have this setting. I would prefer to leave it on for security reasons.

As for the SPI option: I looked into that as well, in my router's settings..but I couldn't find anything that even mentioned packets at all within my router's configuration page..just to let you know that yes, I covered that base, too.
Edit: After double-checking my router settings once again, I can now confirm that yes, my SPI router firewall is disabled, and I still cannot connect to SL. |

I am still having this problem. I am also informed that my account shows as being logged in at this time. Can you arrange to have this fixed?

So right now I'm afraid to log in because all my friends see me present and I'm not. what should I do? Hah! Well I risked it, and unless LL has made some updates that we were not informed of, I think this all boils down to some kind of bizarre network issues. I *did* successfully log in from a different network than my previous host. Yay! Mind you I still have no idea why the other network was b0rk3d. - C |

Song--last you were having this problem, your internal presence showed as "stuck". Another attempt was made to free you of this; is it still happening as of now? Song, please send me your SecondLife.log file too. Caoimhe, still having problems when you go back to your previous host? Thanx again to those who submitted their log files for further investigation... Kona Linden's going to attempt to find a solid repro. _____________________

I guess this isn't fixed yet. I am having this problem today and did also last week. Interestingly, last week I had it from a hotel in Boston and today from a hotel in Charlotte. In between I never experienced the problem from my home wifi connection.

In between I never experienced the problem from my home wifi connection. Ok, I had the problem on a hotel net as well, but that was after three or four days of no problems on that particular hotel network. I think that there's been an SL protocol change that now runs afoul of certain common router configurations. Good luck debugging this one, guys - I don't envy you one bit. Mind you, that's not going to stop me from whingeing next time I hit it ![]() - C P.S. I don't suppose LL could run the entire protocol over a port 80 HTTP connection? |

Same problem today. Unfortunately since I am traveling at least two weeks out of every month (three this month) this could easily kill my SL entirely if a work-around isn't discovered. I wonder how many other travelers are out there in the same predicament.

It's been over a week and I still can't connect. At this point I have lost all hope of ever getting back in world again. I'm probably going to wind up cancelling my account, because there's no point in paying for something I can't use, and there's no point in even having a free account if I can't even login. This is rediculous. No one seems to know how to fix this problem. I've gone over every step looking for a solution but nothing seems to work at all. I tried the method that Torley posted up in the Announcements thread where she suggests you click on a link to have SL log you in from a different region, but that did not work, either.
I do not know what happened to cause me all this trouble, but I do know that there does not seem to be any solution whatsoever in sight in the near future. The worst part of it is is that I can't even log in to tell all my friends I won't be coming back. Oh well. |

I am getting this exact same problem today. I was able to log in earlier, but now neither my main account nor my alt account can log in. I get the same error message, about packet unable to be sent. I am on a macintosh, should I send my log somewhere? and is it in Library>Application Support>Second Life>logs>stats.log? or Secondlife.log?
This is especially disheartning since I am trying to get inworld to help someone who is completely new to Second Life! _____________________

Everyone who hasn't sent me their logs yet, please, please do. We're still investigating this.
Imp, that sounds right--you can email me all of them... torley@lindenlab.com Jade just sent me her logs--just confirming this. Panther, please email me with the name of which account can login and which can't. This sounds atypical because I'm generally hearing that this "Login packets never received by login server" affects all accounts trying to login to SL on a given computer. A common thread seems to be, "It started happening to me after the last update" (meaning the current version, 1.9.0.21). _____________________

Hi, I'm having the same problem. It just now started. Once i started to log in then suddenly it crashed on me and the crash logger popped up. Problem is persisting and I can't log in at all.
Digi Thanks... anyone else having the exact "Unable to connect. Login packet never recieved by login server. Please try again in a few minutes." problem, please share as well.
|

What I don`t understand is why does LLabs still keep this feature with YOU NEED WAIT XXXXXXXX time because the system is logging you out. Its confusing for some and half the time doesnt even work. I can login at times on the second try....
