can't log in properly

Today I have been unable to log in.
SL stalls at the 'Connecting to region' message.
Occasionally I get past this only to find myself in a texture-less land scape with no avatar and no way to communicate.

I tried re-installing a number of times,
I Turned off my firewall

nothing works
anyone else seen this problem?

what is the cause? what is the solution?

Log in another sim, sometimes you get that when the region you are in are to slow, to many there or just SL being a tard.

Select -start region- in launcher, type in a random simname

Chang, I am having same problems. Did you get it sorted?

I try to log in and I get like a black screen with a slit across it...there appears to be like a slice of red moon behind it. It gets to the stage where it is connecting to the region the site stops responding.

I try to log in again and when it does go past that stage and connects with region I am still in what appears to be a blackish room with the slit across it and the red moon. One of the tabs at the bottom give me the option to stand up ( I wasnt sat down when I left sl last time anyway ?) All my drop boxies come up I e Inventory, search, freinds list etc .. I have tried transporting to another region and it goes thru the motions of doing that....but im still in the same spot of bother.

I know my system is up to it cos its worked really well since I started on sl 29th December last.

I have reinstalled SL lots of times and I have checked my pc out as best i can to see if I have things interfering with sl ...but as I said everything is fine until this week.

I am running an invidia graphics card that I know is compatable and as I said i have more than enough power in my system - Even my IT dept at work says I have more than enough for most games

As a result of all this a new relationship on line has assumed I am not interested and booted me from her place. There are things I want to do to develop my role in SL ( i am not here just to be a ken doll bobbing around trying to pull Barbies )

I am not a Techie so if anyone can help then please remember you are talking to someone with an IQ two grades below a BB contestant and make it so I understand

well on the one hand I am glad it's not just me, and on the other I am sorry to hear you are in the same predicament ;-P

I have received a request from support for log files which I have duly sent, so hopefully the will get back to me soon with a solution

Sandcroft, that is exactly what I see as well.

I forced sun to noon and it turns out I am under water with what appears to be a flat floor (?) under me.
It doesn't matter what settings I try and change in Preferences they revert back when it crashes.
I have spent last few hours cleaning my pooter, defragging, and scanning but I still cannot get on. I did not have a problem until this new version was downloaded, and the last attempt failed at 43 mins.

I tried Thili's suggestion again (I chose plum as the region) and logged in successfully.
In world I can get to all of the other places I tried to log into before.

I received a reply from SL support however they don't seem to have any concrete reasons for, or solutions to my recent log in problems.

They examined the crash reports and logs I sent them and suggested that:

" your graphic card,

they suggested that I should:

so despite being able to connect already I decided to update my graphics card drivers anyway. Still no problems, all is well.

I guess updating our graphics cards can't hurt.

My conclusion is that something in the new version of Sl messed up my ability to connect properly. Someone at SL has now fixed the problem, but they have not notified SL support.

Having the same problems logging in again.

tried and failed about 1620 GMT .. have since downloaded and installed the latest version of SL, still no luck.

This may be of interest to the programmers and techs:

on installing Sl and trying to connect there was no request by my firewall to allow SL to accept connections from the internet as in previous first runs of SL.

oh well I guess I need to wait until they un-screw up what ever they have screwed up again .. sigh...

I did, I killed him!! I did manage to get in eventually, but as I had no response from Support, and looking at the new sticky, I really do not know if it was techie fault or it was the sytem was too busy.

NB. A friend had similar problem last night and left it in that state while she went out - 4 hours later it was ready!!

FWIW, I don't think this is directly related to client or hardware. I'm using the Linux client and have been experiencing the same problem. I'm unable to connect to the Asset Storage Server and the client times-out after 5 minutes. Oddly, it does appear to be time related. If I'm logged in between 8 and 9 am PST (4 and 5 pm GMT) the client will just lock-up. After that (or if I try to connect at a later time) I cannot connect and get lots of output like this:

I've tried clearing the cache, but that was no help. However, if I wait until the Lindens have gone home (late evening PST, early morning GMT) I can connect without any problem. It feels like they may be using something "experimental" during office hours which is causing the problem, but it can't be affecting everyone.

same problem too and actually after maybe 13 mins or so, the tos agreement came up, yes or no etc, then a slow load to connection.

Same thing happened to me too.

Same thing. ToS thing, and my client crashes every time I try to log in.

After a few tries, I finally got logged into the game.. the ToS thing came up finally, and I got in. Before that, I had the unable to connect to simulator message after trying to get into SL.

I'm having the same problem. When I login it says "precaching" and then "downloading clothing". After that all I see is a large black area with an orange sun in the background. My friends list says "loading" and I cannot move from the coordinates 10,10,10 in any sim that I start in. This is really frustrating!!

Me too...I just find my self at (10,10,10) after waiting 3 minutes to log in, nothing loads, then the AgentUpdate message.

Ok I am seriously at a loss. I havn't been able to play since the update! I know my router and firewall settings are ok because I can play it on my laptop.

I had a problems yesterday again . I was able to connect using the 'first look' viewer but I don't see the download for that now .. probably just as well, as it has the habit of crashing my computer not merely SL.

As the support guy said to me .. have you tried downloading and installing the latest version?

Un-install completely before installing..

I know , like me you probably tried this a number of times but, sometimes it works.

I said to the support guy .. I think it is a server side problem . but lo and behold this time re-installing worked. (I had tried re-intalling a few hours earlier)
