It was no accident. although it may have gone further than Ol Fiz intended.

There is no skill involved in this scripting, anyone could do it.

It used to be badgers, now it's "griefballs."

Dumb.

I say when we get back on SL that we all do a find for this Ol Fitzcarro guy (I'd remember the name if I saw it) and give him negative ratings for it! He can be the first person in SL history to have 1342352 negative ratings. Maybe it will crash SL again! ack!!

Don't know if anybody else noticed (I didn't read every post I'm sorry) his date of birth but I was able to save a UI picture of the objects edit box and his profile to disk before I crashed. I looked at it while here. I think this was his intent and I hope there is more then bannishment allowed for this type of activity if they can find the account holder.

Wanna share Tequlia?

I heard someone make a comment earlier about banning this guys IP address. There is a sliight problem with that. Depending where in the workld he is he quite posably had to route through several routers and servers amoung countless networks. So by the time the connection finally reaches SL it winds up logging the IP address of the last server or router that hits it and not his personal home IP address. blocking an IP address might wind up in fact cutting countless thousands from the game and they would never know why. I agree that something must be done but giving my lack of kowledge in resolving such matters I will choose to not make known my extream agrivation right now.

Trouble with Tribbles
10-23-2005 19:02
From: Hue Moe
Hi cape!

Hi Hue!! And BTW in regards to your "accident" theory. How much of an accident is it that the prim was called GriefSphere RC3 and the group it was set to was SOMETHING AWFUL. Yea, I'm sure this guy didn't know what he was doing.

I knew this guy that brought a mud down for days making "Tribbles" which doubled in number every .01 second. People do this stuff for laughs and kicks and to read the endless posts about it and laugh about it for years after.

My guess? This guy(s) involved were free accounts and probably used a stolen credit card and phony info so that Lindens couldn't track them down if they wanted to. Something done to this size is carefully calculated and planned out...

How about SL pay everybody who cant get in to play 50 cents for lost time. Then CHARGE THE CREDIT CARD OF THE GUY WHO DID THIS TO RECOUP THE LOSS. Maybe if he gets a 1500 charge on his card he will think twice next time. HANG EM! HANG EM' HIGH!

I highly doubt that, Asalis. Proxy connections are very very slow (like being on a dial up even if your line is broadband), and it would be rather difficult to even log into an MMO with that kind of connection.

However, if he was using some services, the IP adress could be cycled through multiple users - so banning him would also ban everyone else using his local ISP, that sort of thing.

The problem is that many addresses now are dynamic due to the limit of IP network address space, so to ban him permanently might require banning a range of IPs, so anyone on his subnet gets banned too.

Regarding the credit card, it is entirely possible the credit card was a stolen number.

I saw one of those stupid balls land at my feet and wondered where it came from, but other than that thought nothing of it. Shortly after I could not move, but that's not all that unusual in SL, right? *chuckles*

I had been trying to log in and couldn't so i thought of the forums and find out we've been hacked with a visual feedback hack yet! I feel sorry for you guys. I'm a noob and don't have much connection yet, but I feel for you.

I suggest he should be strung up with the honey and fire ants and each one of us gets a turn at tasering his genitalia. That would be corrective shock therapy. I'm just bummed I can't get on and hang with my girl.

I was at one of the seprate island when this hit. I had no odea what was going on till I came here. he';s probably getting a real good laugh outta this. as for me I have other methods of amusment. Secondlife going down is of little concern to me. I'm sure most of us hear after having calmed down is currently doing something els to entertain themselvs. By posting hate comments here your pretty much giving the guy exactly wants.

Hmm, you bring up a good point. The asset server could be overwhelmed. I would think for any transactions at the time it is possible some were lost due to the lag. I doubt any prior objects would be lost, unless this triggered a memory overflow and stomped on memory, which is possible. Lets hope memory capacity was not reached in the asset server and that it handles upper limits well. :)

If you built or rezzed within the last 24 hours and they have to reset the sims (likely, I think) you'll lose it all. No, LL won't reimburse you on the stuff you rezzed that you had to pay for that was no copy. This happened to me last week when Newman was reset. I suspect it's about to happen to a bunch more people.
