Or they could rotate days or times..

So they don't continually tell one group 'you're not important.'

but i suspect that there are more american users than any other group... so rather than pissing everyone off a little... it might work better to piss off fewer people...

It's an inconvenience for us to have to get involved in all your damn wars, too.

Well, as the US seem to be unable to win a war on their own...

Fairness is relative.

Its acceptable to you.
OMG! ITS TOTALLY UNFAIR FOR ME!

I'm reminded of the release of Metal Gear Solid 2. the US got that game first, before Japan even. There were lots of posts from Europeans on forums saying how long they had to wait sucked. Plenty of replies saying 'Haha Europe sux!' from Americans happily playing the game.

Then after months and months (and months) of waiting, the European version was released... with lots of features not in the US version (Boss Attack, Euro Extreme difficulty, Theatre mode, and rebalancing of certain parts of the main game) and wait a minute... those very same 'Haha Europe Sux' guys were whining! They thought that it was unfair that Europeans got this stuff, despite the months of waiting! They wanted to have all the cool stuff, and be first to have the game!

You can please all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.

It would be nice for them to switch around the update times.. but its probably not going to happen. Such is life.

This doesn't seem like LL policy - I suspect they'll start to rotate the update cycle round the clock so they can piss off the entire customer base in turn - one time zone at a time.

I'm in the UK - the price of enjoying SL is to accept downtime for updates, whenever LL choose to update. Live with it.

We all love bugfixes (Yay). Strangely, it's been a recent mish-mash of fixing one thing and breaking another which makes this all the more tedious. My main topic of rant is the time that maintenance is held, I'm all for 6 hours sitting and waiting and doing something else with my life, I now have a WEEKLY competition with one or 2 freinds to see who can get on first after the grid comes back up. Which seems to highlight the fact that the frequency of these updates is getting disruptive, I'm all for updates, but it's constantly disrupting us europeans. WHy? Because the chosen time of 6-10/12 PST is actually, 2-6/8PM For GMT people, even later for other countries in europe. Okay, we're a small minority of the community to disturb, but why always us?

Of course the other side of the argument is the biggest customer, america doesn't get put out too much, and Lindens do wake up early to get grid maintenance done for this fact.

It wouldn't be tedious if some of the updates didn't break stuff, like performance, or weren't so frequent (Now a WEEKLY basis). So I have to ask, what the reason behind the update scheduling?

I can understand updates need to be done, but I'm starting to feel I'm getting the short end of the stick here, and now today, at what is 3pm SLT will be 11pm for me, I'll be dead, most of my close freinds I won't be able to see because they're further east (GMT+), so bleh, to me feels like a whole day where I could've got some building and scripting finished, is gone =/

The updates are done when Lindens Labs starts off their work day based on the Pacific Time zone. Not based on which customers do they want to piss off. It may seem like it, but its not intentional. It is also annoying that it is weekly, but at least it doesn't take 24 hours or longer.

Mweh it's even worse for us Japanese! The blue dialogue box of doom comes around midnight for us, prime time for those of us with day jobs.

Yeus my friends and I curse Karen a lot ("Come and get us &$%*@#!";) when she tells us to be good and log off because cursing is fun, but heh, what's the point in coming to the forums and whine about the solar system?

I suppose the day ends late for the japanese after bouts of kareoke. But most people are expected to be dead, or asleep at midnight.

Why dont LL run a statistical analysis to find out when the system is used the least and do it then ?

Or at least bunch them together and release once a month - that we we only see 1 bug fix for a problem not 4 before it starts to work again.

Lastly - I dont pay premium - but do European premium users get a discount for only having the system 6 days a week ?

( As for getting the poor workers out of bed to do it - tough - goes with the job, its called a 24hour support rota )

My schedule gets screwed by the updates as well Adrianna, and no, I don't. To give them a discount becasue of it would mean they would have to give all those affected by it a discount.

Heh, karaoke... I won't bother correcting your stereotypes but would advise you not to believe what TV programs and a Sofia Coppola movie tell you.

I work in the media so my day ends particulary late but I think most people with responsible jobs and family to take care of can only have their playtime around midnight no matter where they live, no?

Anyhooo, I would just say I don't really mind being thrown out of the game once a week. It's just that Europeans whining "omg it's unfair!" on the forums are getting too old for me. Sorry about poking my flat nose in the wrong thread. :p

Oh, please. As if Europeans ever make anything anyone else uses.

History? Remember we actually have some. It's part of the reason so many of you come here every year as tourists.

Since when does a few hours equal an entire day?

That's not really fair, though, Cristiano. America is the finest country in the entire world, so I dunno how often that happens. Everyone living here is getting a decent deal because market forces dictate we should.

Obviously, the cards have been on the table since WWII that the US pwns. Everyone else has had fair warning that this is the place to be. Dunno what else is left to say about it.

As globalization increases, those living outside the warm bosom of our fruited plains will start to get much more juice. But for the time being, well, come on over here and join our family if you want in on the good stuff. :D

Enabran, does this mean that we American's are the *gasp* FIC of the world? *ducks and runs for cover* :p :D

oh no simply means that US should include geography in their school programs and prolly history too ... to remind all americans that europeans loaned this country to them long ago and that they could take it back without notice :p

Hopefully this taught the OP a lesson. Don't complain on an update day, you will get flamed. You people are sometimes funny, but generally mean. All this "I love America" babble leaves a bad tate in my mouth. You guys really are brainwashed.

Odd how I went through most of the junk here and not a single one I saw even mentioned the fact that the preview grid is open during the update. Yes we get the short end of the stick, but how many MMOs give an alternate during an update? None that I can think of.

If updates actually didn't break things, they'd be great cause I can hide out there and get some work done in peace. Only if they'd not have taken it down while the main grid was "open" but login borked.

We have geography, actually. When the curriculum gets to Europe, though, it's titled "Forgertful people whose asses we saved from having to speak German since the 1940's."
