i didnt have the time or will to read all the comments but to the OP

1 EVERYWHERE in SL is a non weapons zone, unless its marked for combat

2 anything that makes an avatar do something or go somewhere without their will is a weapon

3 why do you care, im not a fur but when i see some human like av running around acting a fool i dont turn into joe friday and bring the dragnet down apon them in my own rightousness

3 you can say your whole life aspect but to me if your standing in a furry av, your a furry. yea yea i know theres this whole subculture thing bla bla bla i dont need to hear everyones life story about why they are dressed up like a rabbit in SL, whatever makes you happy, but you have fur your a furry plain and simple

4 if i ever see a troll / orc without a dead animal attached to them then i would be leery of them, thats just not normal for a troll or an orc

I feel compelled to reply to this thread beyond snarky one-liners, so here goes:

1) Here's a picture of my current avatar; feel free to judge for yourself whether a goofy-looking fursuit head on a pike means I'm a FURRE HATER.

2) I was standing nearby because I was watching someone else in the sandbox build. You (and the other two guys, who were making the bulk of the passive-aggressive provocations) were the ones that assumed I was up to no good / started makin' trouble in the neighborhood.

3) Orbiting people to shut them up isn't good. Trying to orbit people on push-restricted land is silly. Announcing that you just failed to orbit someone is stupid.

4) Don't worry so much about what other people think of you. I had absolutely no negative opinion of you until you started whining about how other furries were making the good furries (WHICH YOU AREN'T, YOU JUST LIKE FOXES AND HATE "YIFF" AND YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT YIFF IS) look bad.

Thanks, Miles.

Now that that's settled, everyone got your translators here...

Okay, I am mature enough to say that I was in the wrong here and I reacted to something that was not my concern. But I can say that I only meant good when I attempted to orbit her, but yes it was a hasty and somewhat stupid attempt. I was not trying to grief. But anyway, I admit I was wrong.

Miles! I want you to make a bandolier with little shrunken furry heads on them and I want mine to be first! PLEEEEEEZE?

As for the OP... Is any of this getting through? At all?

It's NOT ok to orbit someone unless it SPECIFICALLY says so.

Ever.

ETA: It takes a man to stand up and admit that. Well done.

NOW DON'T DO IT AGAIN! ;)

But I think the bigger mistake you made was in assuming you could play security guard on someone elses land. It wasn't your land, the harrassment wasn't happening to you. Frankly it was none of your business.

While I don't agree with what the OP did or why, I do have to say that this sort of "don't get involved, it isn't your business" logic is rarely a good thing. For one thing, I find it to be a morally bankrupt approach to life; social irresponsibility taken to the level of a general "principle". For another thing, it excaberates the bystander effect (that's what results in a crowd of people witnessing a crime and none of them intervening).

IMO, if something wrong seems to be going on, it is not only everyone's business essentially by definition, it is also their duty to do something about it. Sometimes, that requires gathering more information, and sometimes you just have to rely on your best judgement and act immediately. (Jumping immediately to "attack" isn't always justified, such as this case, and especially not because you were just annoyed by whatever was going on.)

If I see someone pointing a gun at someone else on the street, they MIGHT be a roleplayer with an overly realistic prop and a lot less of a clue than one might hope, or it MIGHT be some sort of art performance piece, but odds are good that it's actually a crime, and the risk from ignoring it is too high. Judgement call. (Not that I'm comparing it to a robbery. I don't intervene in every single argument I see. It's more the logic being used here.)

Either way, I'd have to smack someone that said, "none of my business" and ignored it.

So, basically, I'm perfectly fine with the ban the OP got, for some of the other reasons other people have mentioned, but I'm not so fine with people saying "You were wrong to intervene because it's none of your business".

Miles,

you broke my heart...

Dyne,

Are you referring to RL or SL?

In RL, I completely agree.

SL, not so much.

I never said don't get involved if you are witnessing a crime, in fact I HAVE gotten involved in RL and SL. I said that in this situation it was none of the OPs business. He/She wasn't witnessing a crime or ignoring a victim, they were simply observing something they found ugly and annoying...huge difference.

I did also point out that the right thing to do would have been to IM the person and ask if they needed help.

So, the other day, I'm hanging around outside my shop. I look across the way, and there are two avies hanging out in the sandbox. They look shady. One is wearing a free Violator skin, the other a huge dino. The Violator had a tag, like, "O.G. Gangsta Blah Blah". Since none of the land managers were around, I went to check them out. Right away, they start following me around the sand box.

I turned around, and simply said "Yes?"

The Violator says something along the line of "Are you gonna step up or what ya little bitch?"
The Dino says, "Are you going to DEFY the Dino!" Totally cruising for trouble.

All I said in response was, "Not really." They immediately got bored with me and left.

Actually is there a translator or something for furries...is it possible that this crazy language was actually sent by the translator, maybe it sends it to general so it can be read by other translators and deciphered for the others wearing the same translator? If this isnt real wouldn't it be cool :)

It doesn't actually decipher the message that you see in chat. It sends the message on another channel. The stuff in chat is purely random.

Time for my opinion. i believe that girl with the bad grammer in the furry avatar was the real troll. If they had no info int their profile reguarding furries, had awful grammer, while running around trying to yiff EVERYONE then its quite obviuos they arent a real furry. Yiff isn't what furry is all about. A real furry would know that. It's just a lifestyle plain and simple. They were obviuosly someones alt, or just some retard trying to mess with people.

If you see someone with a gun on the street and try to play hero if its a real gun threat your likely to create a worse sitution. But hey while you're layin on that street dyin beside the victim who hadn't provoked the criminal to pull the trigger you can assure yourself you did the right thing.
