Aww. I'm pretty sure my girlfriend would be angry if I asked to join Ordinal's fan club, so, uh, give me five minutes to make an alt, then count me in. <Smirks.>

Ordinal has always been my Heroine :-)

But I would suggest that the newbies not be allowed to change their looks, or change their clothes, and be made to stay in dormatories.

In my meager attempt to encorage Caledon to subdue the rest of the grid, it will need some footsoldiers ( in steam powered exoskeletons ) and I would think the newbies would make a ready made army, while also providing employment, and possibly cure the panhandler problem refered to in another thread.

Just my L.002s worth

Why not make new non-verified newbies spawn into gorean sims (instead of the WA) and have a default avatar wearing gorean silks and collars? This will help increase the number of goreans and help control the newbies movement/actions.

The collars of course should be fully scripted with all of the usual leashes, kneeling poses, movement locking and etc., controllable by any verified member.

This would also be good for SL's economy, dramatically boosting the slave trade and creating a new class of slaves who really can't run away. :)

This would be complicated by the first unverified who managed to slip out and shout "Get your hands off me, you damn dirty ape!"

This would be further complicated if the prison keeper had a chimp avatar...

With so many tools at our disposal, such feeble attempts at rebellion would be swiftly and thoroughly crushed.

And, of course, we also have the resources and combined might of the FIC behind us ...

Caledon will certainly *not* be raising a new player army to subdue the grid in a diabolical, but oh-so-stylish manner.

That suspicion is *completely* unfounded, and furthermore, has absolutely *nothing* to do with Ordinal's blogged experiments.

And absolutely nothing to do with Yuriko's and Hyasynth's sexy clothing line because we *have* no bevy of sexy foreign intelligence operatives either.

Nor do we have a secret underground base hidden in our Highlands from which to direct all of this. Nosiree-bob, you'll never find such a place, and all stories thereof are completely unfounded.

Ah, then Desmond, does that mean I should tell Mr. Chadbourne to stop working on the aerial troop ships, and the assault suits for the...oh...um...I mean the "pleasure sky-barge"...

... yeah that's it ...the "sky-barge" for purely "recreational" purposes...and the "costumes" for the ...um...ah...the talent show! Yeah, that's the ticket, the "talent show"--you know, with those "dancers' costumes" (with the armor and rocket packs) for the "big finale".....yep, nothing to see here...move along folks...

How about Noob Skeet?

1. enable damage on your land
2. gather all your friends with shotguns and other weapons
3. put a "special" money tree out - this tree would launch the newbie up about 40 meters when the bait money was Touched
4. blast away!

This could become the FICs' newest gaming craze, overtaking Slingo!

oh dear I gotta admit, this is hysterical!

Are we seriously having a discussion on how to discriminate against free account users?

In this age of increasing paranoia by police and parents over what kids are being exposed to in chat rooms (and more and more arrests resulting) there is NO WAY I am letting someone onto my land with nothing more than a "please type your fake name and fake email address here" registration. If they can't even provide a CC number, then they've got something to hide.

I can just picture some parent walking into the room and catching their 13-year-old daughter in a sexually-oriented SL chat (or worse, working as an escort). "Tonight on Action News 9, shocking allegations from a local parent about what her daughter was exposed to on the internet! Local police have been contacted regarding the site, known as Second Life..."

Why don't we let the resmods ridicule them? They are doing a fine job here:

Newbies: friend or foe

Perhaps, once we get the llIsVerified command, we could create a script that will automatically freeze anyone that enters the parcel who is < X days old. We can then take this time to ascertain their status as newbie or griefer.

We were all newbies at one point. Someone, somewhere decided to help us out, point us in the right direction and get the boxes off of our heads. There are still many newbies out there that need that same help. We just need to seperate them from the griefers. I think 30 seconds to check the person out should be enough.

If the newbs understand that this is only until they are a certain age, they will understand.
This could also be a feature that is turned off/on or have people added to the DNF or always freeze list.

I agree with you 100%. SL needs more people with your understanding ;)

I'm on basic and I am not a griefer...
07-12-2006 11:06
(see title) ...I even ask people if my hand and foot particles, which are part of my avatar, are too much for their systems. I do like the one idea that was posted, set a thing to freeze or trap them automatically, in large enough an item that if they try to grief the item will thwart them, then acertain their intentions or even make them stay in the invisible item, unbeknownst to them, until you are sure they are not griefing, then a channel command to kill the item trapping them. I will say, I still have ALOT of free stuff in my inventory, not that I'm a veteren on SL, and am still fairly new, but I got the free account because I don't have much money to go around, and I'm sure alot of people did the same. In closing, I'm on basic, I don't grief, I'm just here to enjoy SL the same as everyone else. ^_^

I have actually written a prototype script that does this, which I call the "Killer Money Tree". If said newbie manages to stay alive for a certain length of time, they do actually get payment - which encourages them to actually stay around, rather than fly away. I shall of course credit you for the idea, Ms Christensen.

God, that's brilliant...

I simply must see this! Maybe we should put one in Caledon's upcoming Moors... a Whomping Willow of sorts perhaps?

i DO believe in blocking ppl with NO PAYMENT INFO.

But

Blocking people who havnt USED PAYMENT INFO is stupid

i will say openly, i have registered my CC but havnt used it. though i have bought way over 300usd of L$ from time to time. through means of other ppl using lidnex and i pay them in cash person to person. Why dont i use my CC? its has a credit link to the band im in and, they wouldnt be to happy seeing our gig $$$ and my personal money being ued in SL, so i use personal $$$.

though i havnt had any problems yet, im not banning anyone from manic casino or malteeze or my home. and i only will after i reach the 50 Av ban limit.

ok, im getting bored, so im off to play my gat!

SEE YA!

so hmm - you want to ban someone who is new.. just because they are new and haven't paid (yet). How elitist of you.

I strolled around SL for 3 weeks before my husband and I decided we liked it well enough to sign up for the monthly fee. What led us to this decision - the welcoming people we met.
Due to the welcoming we have had, we have encouraged several other friends to also come aboard - and told them to explore before they make their decision.

If we instead had been greeted with auto-banning and such a *welcome* as you - the HARD CASH PAYING LONG TIME MEMBER who started this suggests.. we would not have stayed.

Perhaps you should think a bit more about your proposal? As others above said - we were all noobies once upon a time.
