Clearly as a responsible paying resident of Second Life I believe that anyone who hasn't paid should be generally beaten on, humiliated and treated as belonging to a despised underclass as much as possible, particularly on my land, because that's the best way to deal with griefing and stalking and stuff. Or something like that. Look, I pay my hard-earned cash to LL and that means I'm a customer and the customer is always right dammit.

Anyway, I've seen many fine proposals regarding automatically banning newbies from parcels, live helpers and older members being allowed to ban them, stopping them owning certain items, restricting what they can script and upload, etc etc, and that's all very well, but I'm not quite getting the level of visceral pleasure in someone else's discomfort out of these suggestions that I'm really after. There must be something more. They've got to know what trash they are.

Perhaps, instead of having a three-tier system (almost egalitarian, like some sort of communist thing) we can have the top two tiers being called "alpha" and "beta" and non-verified non-people put in "omega". Or perhaps upper class residents could trigger animations in lower class ones at will, like "grovel" or "dance_like_a_monkey". Or - hey! I like this one - take stuff from their inventory, and then burn it in front of them because it's just worthless freebie trash, while lolling.

Yes, okay, I know it would be quicker if we could ban them altogether, since any sane person being subjected to such stuff would just leave anyway, but where's the fun in that? I have a hard day working here in Chicken Shack and dammit I pay my hard-earned cash to LL and they don't. Without these measures I might have to go out and kick a homeless person instead. Are you listening, LL?????

Supposedly there will be a script call that will enable us to determine someone's "verified" status. I'm sure this will lead to more efficient, automatic forms of elitism and discrimination than those available today.

What we really need is the ability to more fully control our avatars, and what can be done to them, and what we can see and hear. If I can disable susceptibility to push (for myself and for my physical objects, such as vehicles), and if I can mute peoples' idiotic sound spam as well as chat text from them and their objects, it closes off the vast majority of ways for them to irritate me.

I would venture a guess that the majority of non-verified new residents are not griefers or troublemakers.

While there are indeed cases where it just makes sense to restrict access to verified accounts only, I think its important to keep in mind that these are potential paying customers - of both LL and SL at large, and alienating them completely may be counterproductive in the long run.

That said, Huns' comment bears repeating:

Instead of lynching newbies and taking away freedoms, maybe we should demand LL create better tool sets for land owners, better personal anti-grief options (built-in) and fix things that are broke or useless?

Excellent idea! I'm gonna hold my breath until it happens!

What we need is a way to mute the oh-so-pleasant talking attachments that have no name.
I can mute every other attachment without a problem.

and I also think that an automatic PERMANENT ban should be placed on anyone that uses the Howlzz anywhere in SL at any time...
I have started to kick and ban people from my land if they use it.

perhaps

CODE

if (llSearchInventory(howlzz) ==TRUE)
{
llSay(0, "You haved howlzzed your last Howlzz buster!");
llKickAndBanPermanent ==TRUE;
}

We can all dream, can't we?

What makes you think LL is going to strip away our freedoms any faster than they would create anti-grief options? Both paths require LL changes.

I dunno about any freedoms thing, but we've been "demanding" better land management and anti-griefing tools from LL since pretty much forever ago.

Perhaps, once we get the llIsVerified command, we could create a script that will automatically freeze anyone that enters the parcel who is < X days old. We can then take this time to ascertain their status as newbie or griefer.

We were all newbies at one point. Someone, somewhere decided to help us out, point us in the right direction and get the boxes off of our heads. There are still many newbies out there that need that same help. We just need to seperate them from the griefers. I think 30 seconds to check the person out should be enough.

If the newbs understand that this is only until they are a certain age, they will understand.
This could also be a feature that is turned off/on or have people added to the DNF or always freeze list.

When I say freedoms, I'm referring to proposals to remove certain rights from unverified newbies. And yes people havent been demanding those forever because its brand new. You have anything that suggests LL will work any faster limiting newbie abilities than they have taken on better land management and anti-griefing? Thats my point, to implement either you have to get LL to do the work, so why not ask for the better option. (Well better IMO)

Why not buy a couple of sims.. make a guarded area.. with al know and unknown push and kill scripts and terrible dogs that eat avas. AL to guard the selected ones that live behind huge fences..

Inside a heaven for the chosen ones.. huge lovely houses, gardens and people that think al alike.... signed contracts.. al politcal correct.. and no newbies allowed.. if so they must do a week long of tests.. and deposit an huge amount of IRL money.. and and and...

/Tina - I will not live at that place..

As a matter of fact we're forming an association for that exact purpose--Avatars Infatuated with Miss Malaprop. If you join now, we can guarantee a highly desirable low membership number. Because after all, you want to get in on the ground floor of this rapidly expanding social circle--and who's gonna have any respect for somebody who jumps on the "Ordinal Crush" bandwagon in its later stages?

I think it's pretty clear that LL will limit newbie accounts before giving us better tools because they've already done so. Right?

They can't have verified status in their profile.

Count me in! :)

Edit to add: Although I am not presently a lesbian, I would make the necessary adjustments for Ordinal. Or I can make a male alt. Whatever Miss Malaprop prefers.

Thats not a right and has nothing to do with their ability to enjoy SL.

You are avoiding the question I asked.

You said: I think it's pretty clear that LL will limit newbie accounts before giving us better tools because they've already done so.

I said: What have they done to limit unverifieds?

I have yet to see you mention anything thats limited them.
