I can't find "auteurs" in my dictionary. Can someone help me?
Lewis
Actually, I just found it in mine. Granted, it's a hefty collegate dictionary(Webster's New World College Dictionary Fourth Edition), but it's still there. As for the ad, I took no offence for it, I usually just search for things anyway via SLExchange/SlBoutique, or the in game search.

Lewis: This just proves you don't know what you are talking about most of the time. Using a typical and common "film" word for a film contest is a bad thing? Sheesh. Let me put it in simple terms for you. A general film has a lot of creative people putting input in, where as an "auteur film" where the director is the creator. This idea is based on The French New Wave genre.
Then again, you'd think that they would be promoting groups of people to work together instead of one creative force driving it.
As for the rest, unbunch your panties already. The classifieds are a stupid L$ sink. If you do play the game (which I have tested for a bit of a laugh) you are generally bumped off the first page within a couple of days. Oooo what fun. What I have found is that no matter how much you spend on them, your total profits show little change. Say I spend 20k on a classified (which now won't get you on the front page). I make that back but don't make any more extra then I would have done without the ad.
Why spend over 30k to get on the first page where clicking the drop down to new products mine is up top for 2k.
I thought the idea of the more you spend the more you care about your work, or sucessful you are was rubbish when they thought it up and more so today. The crap that covers the top of the classifeds prove that. Downloaded animations, casinos, and slut wear. Ooo thats the best of sl.
They need a better search function that isn't displayed based on how many people you can pay to stay there. More keywords. And possibly the ability to show more photos.

From: Tren Neva Knocked off the list? I still see it. Maybe you can see it if you scroll down? The whole point is to be on the "top" of the page so someone sees it immediately.

Well actually, she was down three slots, so I don't really think that reasoning applies. And if the whole point was that LL contest bumped people down a single slot... well that's not a point at all. That's just people yelling at stuff for the sake of yelling at stuff. I can't imagine anyone going to the classified, glance at the list, and then proclaim "DAMNIT! NOTHING I WANT IS IN MY IMMEDIATE SIGHT! SCREW SCROLLING DOWN AND SCREW SECOND LIFE!"

From: Cristiano Midnight Again, I repeat, the petty shit you manage to regularly complain about never ceases to amaze me. Sorry a simple word like auteur stumps you, but get a better dictionary. Hell you can just look at the word and see that it means author. I can't believe you are actually bitching now about word choice. please marry me anito

As someone who pays for a front page ad I have to say this doesn't really bother me much. That's not to say I don't think whoever got bumped below the scroll line doesn't have a legitimate gripe if they decide to be bothered by it, but had it been me I wouldn't have cared. Anyone could have placed an ad above mine causing me to be one place lower and it can happen at any time. Given that, does it really matter if it's LL or someone else? I have a sneaking suspicion that most people who look at the classifieds probably scroll down the page beyond the first twenty or whatever number fit on the page anyway. LL reallly shouldn't make a habit out of this though.

Perhaps they should say somewhere "see the classifieds" for further information and then have information exclusively in the classifieds.
That way, more eyes on the classifieds and better exposure for everyone who has spent all that money...

Why don't they create a "sticky" post like they do in the forums. So it doesn't knock people off the boat and take up another spot.

You know what it's kinda like? It's kind of like if you were standing in line at Kentucky Fried Chicken and this family got ushered in line ahead of you.
"Hey!" you say. "Oh, that's our district manager," they explain.

On my screen I am showing Pixeldolls was the one put below the scroll line, not at all one of the "little guys". I wonder if Neph is at all upset about this. I did a little research on those complaining, and so far I see either no ads or $50 ads. SL is amusing Edit: I remember a few months back LL had a similiar contest and only announced it on the forums and mentioned it in a few MOD. People complained that only those who read the forums saw it. So now they have means to a resource that everyone can see it. Can they ever win?

No Bidding with us
07-07-2006 21:43
This is why we started the sl shoppingGuide. So all of us can get a fair go. We dont have any bidding for our ads and they run for 2 weeks at between 50Ls to 1000Ls (for the cover). The average spent is 500Ls for a feature page which we actually turn into a full page ad now. We dont even let businesses reserve the front cover, so, that way anyone can have a go at it. All our ads are linked to the owners business so a customer can TP directly there and the ads are listed under categories in a table of contents and they are also linked to the ad. Our text only ads are jazzed up a bit (you know with drop shadows and stuff) to give them a bit of a lift. They are only 50Ls. I know we are relatively new but we have had over 18000 views of the shopping guide on the website and at the moment close to 500 subscribers who get an email to let them know the new guide is ready to view. The subscription is free as well. We are not one of those stylish glamour type mags or have news or public interest stories like Second Style or the new Voodoo one (albeit great mags that they are), we arent that pretty or slick but we are your basic "get ya ad in the face of people" catalogue just like the ones they deliver in your rl mailbox. I just cant work out why you would pay 30,000Ls and more to advertise. Im like one of the other posters here I usually look at the cheap seats first. If any would like a gander at the guide you can get all the info through my profile and TP to the office. Man did I just go on ..or what...sorry!

The number one difficulty to doing anything in SL, as I see it, is how hard it is to get the word out. Even when people WANT what you have it's still really hard to reach them. What's the answer?
I'm just thinking about my last photo contest - not quite overwhelmed with entries. OK - NO entries.

If the Lindens did everything that everyone here wanted, people would start complaining that there is nothing to complain about.

I just had a look at this. I don't know if it has changed, and it was different when people first noticed this, but the ad only appeared in the Wanted category. Without scrolling down, a lot of L$50 ads were on the page. The next highest price paid was L$2000, but that was about the only one. The rest were close to the minimum fee. After scrolling down, there was only about half a page of classifieds in this section. So is anyone actually particularly disadvantaged by this? I don't know if it was in more categories intitially, but as it stands, I really can't see how anyone was disadvantaged. No one who paid extra was bumped off the first page (and hardly anyone did pay extra in this category). Or have I missed something here?
