And if they didn't put it everywhere, highly visible, then someone would complain that it was only for the FIC!
They want to promote their thing the same as you do. If you had as many ways to do it as them, you'd likely milk that cow until she was dry. More to the point, I, like many others, do not open the classifieds and skim the first page to see where I can find the best gambling and e-boobs. If I want something, I do a search, and if I do a search, even the 50L ads pop up. Right there. All the ads for Nakama are 50L ads, last I checked, because if someone is looking for Nakama, the 20000L ads will appear in the same place as the 50L ads, and that money is better spent on the place and the products. Ads that really make a difference are on websites and in SL magazines, and on SLex and SLB. The classifieds are where you go when you already have something in mind, but maybe that's just me. _____________________
the truth is overrated ![]() The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better? ![]() |

Classifieds can be quite effective, sometimes too much so. I've yet to regret a large add I've put up but yeah I'd be pissed if a Linden put up an add over me but then again I'd get over it real quick, as others have said here he who has the gold makes the rules lol.

I don't have any active ads in the classifieds atm, but if I did, I would be pretty ticked if LL placed a L$50,000 ad above mine. Classifieds should be reserved for residents. LL already has the website, infohubs, and the MOTD. I do not see a reason for them to have to advertise in the classifieds esp. when residents are spending so much money to be there.

Why can't they just use normal english instead? Before reading the rest of the posts, my prediction is that this thread is going to get rather embarrassing for you. |

I am one of those people who paid to get high on that list and frankily I dont really care. How many of you are actually paying top dollar for those ads? How many of us are actualy MAKING top dollar to place a top dollar add? It's the small fry that is hurting, and whoever got bumped off the front page by that linden. |

I imagine business might be down for you right now but I don't think it's from this person making an advertisement like this. _____________________

Other than message of the day, are there many good ways for LL to create awareness of these things in-world currently? Perhaps an entirely seperate category would work, purely for Linden events and competitions. End of conflict of interest, if one does exist.
The MOTD doesn't always work, it's one of those things you can become immune to, or may miss if you hit connect and then turn your attention elsewhere while the login runs its course. _____________________

The last great Auteur of the American Western was without a doubt, Sam Peckinpah.

Sam Peckinpah would have loved secondlife, hed have bought up land in Jessie, logged in drunk, shot passersby, and have frequented every virtual whorehouse in SL

It's not a common word in everyday usage, certainly not with anyone I've ever spoken to. Lewis Again, I repeat, the petty shit you manage to regularly complain about never ceases to amaze me. Sorry a simple word like auteur stumps you, but get a better dictionary. Hell you can just look at the word and see that it means author. I can't believe you are actually bitching now about word choice. _____________________

Unless your ad was for your $99,000L video contest, I think you'll be ok.

I've never placed an ad - nor am I likely to anytime soon - but I can see how this is unfair. Let's say you paid real cash for an ad spot in the classifieds, and woohoo, you're on page 1! Then a Linden add for "$L50,000" knocks you to page 2, or 3, or 4. The battle in classifieds is for attention, users have to pay for it, apprently Lindens can get it for free in the same space. Seems fundamentally unfair to me.

Unless your business is based around the hope that people are browsing for contest but find your ad that has nothing to do with contest instead, where they then go and give you their business because they didn't scroll past your ad, well then you're out of business. LL really fudged you over there. |

Why should LL take away ranking from people who have spent hundreds of US dollars to get those rankings? With all the other ways they can get the word out, I see no need to intrude on the paid classifieds. Of course it's LL's world and they will do what they want. I think they were wrong in this instance. _____________________

Don't mean to sound harsh, but the logic in me is yelling, "WTF GUYS, WTF?". |

If it does (I am not IW atm to see) then someone's paid ad got knocked off that page. It doesn't affect me at all, as I have nothing in the classifieds atm. It's nothing I would loose any sleep over, I just think LL should have considered that before placing a high dollar ad in the classifieds. _____________________

It would be a minor annoyance if it wasn't set up like that though. |

I imagine business might be down for you right now but I don't think it's from this person making an advertisement like this. Its not me that is losing business, Pixeldolls was was the one knocked off the list by Linden labs, and I'm sure their money is worth just as much as mine. I'm not in the running here. I just saw it and it upset me is all. |

Fools! This is a great ploy by LL to prod the content-creation tekkiwikinistaficers to increase the prices of their advertisements which in turn raises the prices of everyone's ads as they all scramble up the pile! This is social engineering at it's most beautiful! They're creating sinks to increase the value of the currency pool so we all might enjoy a more robust economy.
Post another classified, Jesse! 100k! 200k! 1,000k! More! More! I salute you! |
