Collecting information about your computer?

Ah well, guess I gotta be careful. If its banning via hardware setup and serials now, I gotta make sure no mates use my PC (and likewise not to use theirs) else I might get banned, or labeled guilty by association.

Also completely ruins it for LAN centers too, or other people likely to share access to the PC (most noticably siblings).

I stayed away from endless debatable topics such as these but I had to jump in and approve of this solution. Even if that means a griefer is sharing a computer with one or more people ends up getting everyone else penalized on the same hardware. Let them bitch it out in real life.

This is probably as good a solution as we're going to get with some room for possible improvements. Linden Labs gets to keep their open registration while we have a pretty plausible form of validation. Yea, it might be avoidable by means of faking hardware identification as some have mentioned.

I say give it a shot. If Linden Labs is willing to open registration we can certainly try this in the process. If it doesn't work out then everyone can go back to expressing their opinions. I am curious myself how this solution will turn out.

You do realize Microsoft Windows does this and has for years, right? ...Right?

Wait...So if a husband and wife play sl and the , lets say, wife likes to use a alt she created and didnt tell her husband about to grief the clubs he goes to hang out at. Her alt gets banned then in turn the entire machine gets banned? No let LL do the machine banning, you stick to banning each avi and AR them. Once LL figures out the wife is the moron doing this and bans the computer and she has to explain to the husband why she was griefing and got the computer banned from SL.

By the residnets banning the hardware when they ban a avatar would be just plain irresponsible on LL part.

Ok here is how I percieve the new updated version and if I am wrong PLEASE do tell me!

1. LL/SL is going to aquire certain ID numbers from you computer to better identify the alts with a computer.

2. They are also going to identify all avatars on (3) different levels of verification. Being unverified=new acct not provided a means of ID, or old acct that didnt provide a means of ID, verifed-non billed= you provided a CC at sign up but didnt ever need to buy anthing from LL, verified-billed= you provided a CC at sign up and have purchased something from LL.

Now from my understanding of this if you grief and get reported and LL gets enough information to actually do more than read the AR, you stand a chance of getting your computer banned? Meaning if you midbehave and decide to cause hell for people in the world you stand a higher chance of getting caught!

As for the levels of "status" like many ppl before have said, if its possible to purchase a small amount of $L then do so. I mean for a dollar you can get between 200-350L deppending on the market-value ATM. If you cant purchase anything from LL, and dont take this wrong, I suggest you take ten minutes of your day and google a better system that LL can use, help the system instead of bitching!

One more thing. I see in the forums ppl bithcing about SL not being totally citizen ran! Hell let LL stop doing what they do now and see where it goes! I mean honestly people yes they need to give a little more control to the residents. But to much power in the wrong hands and you have a screwed-up world!
