"FIC" Unhappy Because Their Influence is Waning?

Its no secret that the so-called "FIC" seem to be under attack from Linden Labs. They have seemingly served their purpose (content creation / bug testing) but now LL has attained critical mass necessary to give them the boot. Which is seemingly what is happening. They're not happy. From the tone of these threads (all started by former fan bois / fan girlz) they are trying to convey the message that SL is under some sort of seige.

I call bullsh*t. SL is thriving like never before. I go in world and can do so much with my friends, see so many creative builds, and exercise my creative building/scripting power like never before thanks to the veritable encyclopedia of resources now at anyone's fingertips.

I cannot say that I blame the FIC for being upset they are getting kicked to the curb, but honestly what did they expect? To be the Kings and Queens of SecondLife forever?

This is just my opinion, and you all are entitled to yours. But I do believe mine makes sense.

Whats bullshit is the secondlife I log into these days. Thriving like never before? From that comment I assume your a alt account. I mean surely ya havent come to this conclussion since just Febuary. Surely youve experienced the SL we used to have.

Creative builds? No creative was back in the day when a sim was turned into a recreation of the Peter Pan story. Some one refresh my memory... how much was SL citizens charged to go see it? What is creative about camping chairs.

Things used to be built just so people could admire em. There used to be clubs just for people to hang out together and have fun. Now the majority the population wont take two steps unless a raffle ball involved.

Dont get me started on the so called "FIC." Wanna slam them but so quick to forget that without lot them, SL woulda never lived up to half its potential. Shooo youngster, shooo.

The original premise is misleading and taken out of context. I guess nobody is allowed to express concern about SL if they've invested any major amount of time, emotion, energy and money in the thing because that makes 'em a member of some fictitious secret group like the Bilderbergers.

Oh c'mon! Everyone knows the "FIC" doesnt really exist. Its just a conspiracy started by some crackpot who enjoyed making turmoil on the forums. Not to mention he was influenced by the real force controlling the Lindens to to make the FIC into a conspiracy to distract from the real controllers.

Second Life can't apoligze for jack... Cause at the moment most of the people have the "mob" mentality and all it will do is encourage people being demanding to the point of being unreasonable.. (not sarcasm just stating)

And I really agree with Tere..
I would really like to go to a club and just appreciate the music, or go to a place where they've built things for the shear joy of it and stand there and go "wow". I don't care about the gambling, or the instant money I might win. I go to a club cause either the music sounds good, or their theme sounds fun. (not sarcasm just stating)

And on the FIC, meh, I'm sure they have valid points.. But so does everyone else on this board

There is no FIC. There are, however, people who have been here from the beginning who have poured their heart into this game.

I'm not one of them, I admit - I'm a Jill Come-Lately who happens to really, really love it here.

Thing is, when you mistreat paying customers, you drive away the basis of your business; when you alienate the people who are the ones who have been the driving force on your platform for years...

It's not good. At all.

I agree that SL has flourished and is more diverse that it has ever been. I don't feel upset about that at all, I welcome it. I don't feel my influence has lessened or grown, or care one way or another about that. It has never been my motivation in SL. What is troublesome is the lack of stability - SL has some severe problems, and to pretend they don't exist is just fucking ludicrous. Speaking out about these things, along with the continued random application of the TOS and other issues is not something new - it has been a part of the process the entire time, and will continue as long as people are passionate and involved in SL.

It is not a FIC issue - missteps by Linden Lab could certainly kill off the potential of SL very easily if left unchecked. We aren't just passive tourists in SL - you may view yourself that way, running around exploring all those cool builds you suddenly see, but others are far more involved creatively, financially, and emotionally, so these things do matter to them, even if you don't give a shit. You can try another tired troll and claim it is the dying gasps of the FIC complaining about their faded glory, but that is just ridiculous. Many long time residents are flourishing more than ever, as are many newer residents, and enjoying the fruits of their efforts and are concerned about the ongoing direction of Second Life. Enjoy your attempts at divisiveness - if anything, they tend to unify people.

I love this game dearly, I love my mate and I wouldn't want to be without my friends...

That said, the abuse department needs reform... it needs more staff, clear guidelines (not this broad hazy stuff they can use to shut up the people they dislike taking comments from) and transperancy... at least to those being punished, I deserved my day in court and they never gave me one... its moot, my punishment is over... but what about the next time, or if a friend gets banned for reporting a bug? Thats why I am calling for reforms... because I know the system is broken.

A system without a valid appeal system, with a fast turn around and for god sakes, a phone number, is a system too full of itself and what "meets the eye" on first glance...

I wonder how many innocent people have been saved since the advent of forensics, psyco-analyists and all the modern units of the average fair trial... and why linden labs refuses to let someone have their day and a chance to defend themselves against outragous claims and arbitrary tossing around of the TOS.

That's no reason to drive away the old guard entirely and mistreat them.

Besides, when you're running a business, you don't want newer customers watching you mistreating older customers, and thinking "do I really want to be here? Do I really want to invest in this world any further than I may have already?"

It's bad, stupid business practice and it's something LL may want to think about - they're not Sony and can't afford to make that kind of idiotic choice.

Oh, I completely agree with you on that, any company that drives away a group of people publicaly is asking for trouble... Cause like changing of the guard.. Something will come out better than Second Life.... And the way for them to keep their client base is to build loyalty in thier customers..

And even though I haven't said it previous I do think Second Life is making long effecting mistakes that wont effect them now, but will down the road. But any time someone demands anything from anyone, it usually gets ones back up..
