Only the resmods can do that now. They will let you know if this thread is excellent, good, average, bad, or terrible. If they feel like it.
You can still rate the Classifieds. Course, you can't post there, as that might be helpful. Instead, we have the Star Wars going on there, which serves no purpose whatever except to make people feel bad, encourage the worst aspects of competition, and stifle creativity.
You're really better off here, where you don't have to think at all about whether a thread is excellent, good, average, bad, or terrible. Other residents will decide that for you.

... as if the rates were ever anything arbitrarily useful beforehand?
Let me use a picture I pulled from CNN's news page yesterday to illustrate what thread ratings mean:

They are stupid star gif besides a thread title, who cares anyway. I decide by the thread title if i will read it or not, stars have never influenced me in anyway.
And if the mods have halve a brain they won't rate any thread and get rid of this sillyness about stars. Stars are nice to look at night, that's about it.

coco I am curious why you are bothered so much by this. The star ratings on a thread have not been used all that often anyway. I have never once looked at a thread because it was rated multiple stars, or avoided a lowly rated one. If the title and posts in the thread attract my interest, then I will read and take part in it. I have not suddenly lost my ability to decide for myself what is interesting or worth my time to read - why have you? I think this is something you just really need to give a chance before judging it so harshly in advance.

From: Cristiano Midnight I am curious why you are bothered so much by this. Because we need something to talk about now that the culling is proved to be no big deal.

She is right that the stars on the Classified should be removed or at least not used by the forum moderators at all. If the forum is no reply, then the stars can only reflect moderators personal feelings about the products or designers involved. I would hope they would either be removed or that the mods would have instructions not to use them in those forums.

And the best fun is.....winning! This, of course, requires picking the sad sac last, keeping scores and statistics, giving trophies, taunting the losers and, finally, lots of bragging. Or was the best fun whining? I have to admit I was only fitfully paying attention in class that day, my notes are illegible and have drool blotches obscuring much of the content from my having fallen asleep toward the end. Oh, well. I'm sure y'all can sort it out.

I don't mind the stars in the other forums, but it just doesn't make sense to me to have them in the classifieds. *shrug*

Stars have a terrible power.
Mods will protect you from the terrible secret of rates.

What's the big deal? You mean there are people who actually pay attention to stars?

I never paid much attnetion to it anyway, and i figure any rating system is basically a popularity contest. As far as resmods doing it: it might be useful if LL given them some guidelines but I doubt I would pay anymore attnetion to stars in that case either.
Thats something that could just go away.

Actually..I have used the star rating on occasion when scanning over thread titles. If I see a thread that has several gold stars, I do stop in to see what's so good about it.

That part I understand - I am referring to her protests about the use of them by moderators outside of the classifieds.
