FIC allegations have arisen not so much out of not knowing they are able, but refusing to be able.

In reality, it has nothing to do with education, but of the disdainful ramblings of shit disturbers.

Wot she said...

Weedy you FIC yet?

I think we had this convo last night hahah :) I'm too busy making shit to worry bout who is and who isn't perceived as the mythical secret masters of second life :P

You would need to give a rational reason why people who wanted to do something, and were able to do it, would not do it in order to support this.

I totally played Mythical Secret Masters back in the day! Awesome.

Since I'm on the outsidez, can someone tell me if FIC and FIC (Seriously) are two different clubs or separate parts of the same whole?

You obviously were not around when this term was coined by a person who ended up getting themselves permanently banned from the forums for incessant personal attacks.

Since that day, they continue to piss in the resident pool, whilst insisting that LL filter and sterilize the water because it's pollluted.

Throwing your hands in the air, jumping up and down and screaming at the top of your lungs won't get things done. If you can't do something, have you ever heard of thing called "research" or "ask someone"?

Subscribership to Second Life does not come with a micro-chip to plant in your brain to become all-knowing for 10 bucks.

Much of what has been accomplished in SL is novel and innovative. In other words, it's never been done before. If a person has no ingenuity, then I don't necessarily recomend SL unless they want to play Ken and Barbie or whip someone roleplaying the opposite sex.

Perhaps checkers or snakes and ladders is more their speed.

Well sure. But the question comes down to, why didn't they do this? Is it because they didn't know to do so (education), or because they couldn't, or for some other reason?

No, but we can assume it wouldn't cause people to completely blow their rationality fuse.

Or they become the people who buy the content and thus indirectly pay people's land fees.

Having skipped ahead of the last few posts (including, I noticed in scanning, that people with differing viewpoints are called "s**t stirrers" - somehow I manage to post my opinions without calling those with different opinions names), I noticed that someone asked for examples, someone else gave them, etc.

Well, apparently there is a new one. The Lindens have chosen some of the major land-owners/island-owners landlords (not sure exactly which), including Anshe, to include in a new promotional deal for new players. But apparently, just some were chosen, while others were not.

I might be wrong about some of this, it is just what I have heard, and only just this afternoon. Be my guest. Prove me wrong. Prove that the Lindens didn't just select some of the landlords for this major perk and not the others. Prove they put out a call to all land owners/island owners/rental people or whatever, etc., asking if they would like to participate, and then choosing among them.

And if you can't, tell me again how it's okay to give this to some but not others, without telling anyone, or allowing any application process. I see no announcement about it. Tell me again how this is so much better for LL, the Lindens, and us, as I think having these things equal opportunities for all is a win-win situation for all.

This is assuming I have this info right, of course.

Can't do it for some other reason? Who are these people you so adamantly represent?

Tell me, what is the solution to this?

Joe Blow has no hands and no eyes. That makes everyone else who can, FIC?

I have no rocket ship, so astronauts must be assholes.

.

I thought I addressed this in my previous several posts.

Some people look at something and say 'wow... thats cool.. I wonder if......'

Some people don't. But they enjoy whats there regardless.

Some people look and say 'oh I'll never be able to do that'

And usually in that latter group of people there are those who come up with reasons for why they'll never be able to do that... and one of those reasons is a mythical subset that 'gets all the breaks'

This is prevelant in RL too.

FIC was a term coined for 'everyone who doesn't agree with me' or 'anyone who does better than me' by its originator.

And the funny thing is - I went through everything that they went through - from rubbishy builds next to my land to folks who had more talent than I could ever dream of having.

The difference is I rose above.

I continued to do the things that pleased me - and walked my own path and discovered my own things. I paid less attention to what my neighbour did and more to what I could do... I grew - I learned - I explored - expanded and invented. I never took 'you can't' or 'it's not possible' or 'it's been done before' as an answer till I had explored it myself personally and tried every single angle I could think of.

If you want to do - do - Imagination is more important than knowledge.
If you don't want to do - don't.. sit back and enjoy your own second life.

But sitting back and not doing because 'everyone else gets all the breaks' is just BS - plain and simple - the problem isn't theres an 'FIC' - the problem is folks own bugbears.

Sure. But what I'm asking is why do they do this. If they want to do the thing in question (which they presumably do else they wouldn't complain about it), then why wouldn't they do it?

Laziness? Pessimism? A sense of entitlement?

Are you really asking Siggy for a lesson in psychology?

Well, if it's laziness then that calls into doubt if they were able to do it or not. But pessimism - why are people being pessimistic about their SLs?

The question is whether the FIC is still around because it provides a valuable "Emmanuel Goldstein" for people who otherwise would be blaming themselves. It doesn't seem nice to think that participating in SL could make people depressed by highlighting their failures! :) If that was the case, the key would be to just shift the FIC rumours away from real residents.

So better to point the finger at others and yell "It's because of YOU that I suck!!" rather than admitting your own faults? How is that fair to the others (in this case, the FIC) that are being blamed for someone else's failures? That seems nicer to you?

As for why people are being pessimistic about their SLs.. You tell me. I read plenty of your threads where you basically said there's no point in trying to script anything cool because it had all been done before. So... why were you pessimistic about your SL?

Well, if the FIC doesn't really exist then surely there aren't really any "others" in it. (Unless names are being named of course, which is still unacceptable).

Well, it's a bit of a shared experience - when you first join, you get bombarded with things already done, not opportunities. I tried to do something to change that (SLDoBetter) but it wasn't too popular it seems..

Yumi: Ah, those perks, right. A couple of people called me FIC because I was interviewed by Wired. The thing is, LL didn't send Wired to me. I lined up the interview and sent Wired to talk to LL. :)

Desmond: You will be assimilated!

Starax: You have to play the chimp. Where am I going to find another guy who can peel a banana with his toes?

How the fuck would i know? Ask yourself - seriously - youv'e made your share of posts about 'everything is done before and theres no point to it all'. I'm the other person - I'm the MexiCAN not the MexiCANT (to quote Rodriguez - even though I'm Australian).

If I had to hazard a guess I'd say they have the desire to do something but not the motivation to carry it through.

They have the want without the gusto to do. And rather than say 'oi - theres something in ME that's not letting this happen' it's so much easier to say 'well THEY get it easy! Thats why they succeed!'

And the reason *they* get it so easy? well they must have connections, get the breaks...

Its a fucked up bizzaro planet version of Occams Razor.

Or we could say...

They worked fucking hard - good for them!

People should accept personal responsibility, not be handed something or someone to blame so they never have to recognize their own shortcomings. Unless we recognize the fault as our own, we'll never try to improve and overcome it. I don't think encouraging people to blame others, even some mythical boogeyman, is at all a healthy way to go through life. Recongize your own faults, so that you can either overcome them, or accept them if it's not something that can be fixed. This is as much true in SL as it is in RL.

Day the same whole...

I was once called FIC by you know who, the FIC early-arriver - ROFLOL - and to this day - ah, never mind!

Case in point - slam that gavel and we rest it.

When I came here I was surrounded with folks that breathed trig and shat quaterions. Folks that ate physics and spat out the impossible flying all over second life.

And I looked, and I thought 'wow.. I wonder what I could do....'

3 years later I still have that same thought..

While these threads have come and gone since November - I've done 3 things in SL that have never been done before.

Because rather than sit around and say its all been done before - I go out, I look, and I do.

Second Life doesn't have that power - that is within yourself.. if SL demotivates you, looking out your window or walking down the road will too..

is it the roads fault?

And for the latter - the only thing you will ever know 100% is this:

If you never try - you will always fail.

I'd rather love and lose than never love... I'll reach for my stars and miss - I'll fall on my arse and be happier for the experience.

And those that watch me can sit and envy.

No guts, all glory. If you have the desire to do something in SL, there's very little standing in your way. Getting recognition for it is another matter entirely, and I think that's really what people yip about. In a social game with no goals, its not suprising that people latch onto "FIC" as the final boss level.
